A total four millipedes, Harpaphe haydeniana, Narceus americanus, Oxidus gracilis, Rajguru Mahavidyalaya, Trigoniulus corallines taxa belonging to order Polydesmida and Spirobolida; 4 families belongs to Rajgurunagar, University of Pune, Xystodesmidae, Spirobolidae, Paradoxosomatidae and Trigoniulidae and also of 4 genera were India P.O. Box 410505 recorded from the tropical or agricultural landscape of Northern Western Ghats. There was Harpaphe haydeniana correlated to the each species of millipede which were found in Northern Western Ghats S.V. Theurkar region of Rajgurunagar. At the time of diversity study, Trigoniulus corallines were observed more than Senior Research Fellowship, other millipede species, which supports the environmental determinism condition. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract In the New World, the milliped family Platyrhacidae (Polydesmida) is known or projected for Central America south of southeastern Nicaragua and the northern ¼ of South America, with disjunct, insular populations on Hispaniola (Haiti), Guadeloupe (Basse-Terre), and St. Lucia. Male near-topotypes enable redescription of Proaspis aitia Loomis, 1941, possibly endemic to the western end of the southern Haitian peninsula. The tibiotarsus of its biramous gonopodal telopodite bends strongly laterad, and the medially directed solenomere arises at midlength proximal to the bend. With a uniramous telopodite, P. sahlii Jeekel, 1980, on Guadeloupe, is not congeneric, and Hoffmanorhacus, n. gen., is erected to accommodate it. Nannorrhacus luciae (Pocock, 1894), on St. Lucia, is redescribed; also with a biramous telopodite, its tibiotarsus arises distad and diverges from the coaxial solenomere. -

India E-mail: [email protected] ORCID: 0000-0002-4926-2496 Abstract Mating behaviour of Chondromorpha severini, a polydesmid millipede was studied in the field and in the laboratory condition. Copulating pair follows the general rule of love play before actual act of coitus. Mating duration varied from one to 25 minute with an average of eight minute. Mating frequency was maximum in early and late hours of day. In the multiple mate preference experiment, 10 pairs of male and female were used to calculate preference index (Pi) of individual sex. Preference index varies from 0.65 to 0.91. The implication of multiple mating has been discussed in detail. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Pseudonannolene ambuatinga n. sp. and Pseudonannolene saguassu n. sp. are described from individuals collected in limestone caves in the municipality of Pains, Minas Gerais, Brazil, which comprises a scenario of great conflict between speleological preservation and limestone extraction. The two species differ in their gonopod morphology and in size and color. Pseudonannolene ambuatinga n. sp. is regarded as the second troglobite species known for the family. This is the first report for Brazil of syntopy in two congeneric species in the same cave. Key words: Diplopoda, Pseudonannolene, Cave, Brazil, Conservation, Neotropics, Troglobiotic Introduction The genus Pseudonannolene Silvestri, 1895 is often found in Brazilian caves of different lithologies (Mauriès 1974; Fontanetti 1996a; Trajano et al. 2000; Ferreira 2004; Trajano & Bichuette 2010; Souza-Silva et al. 2011; Iniesta & Ferreira 2013) and is thus considered as typically troglophile, establishing populations in both the external and subterranean environment (Culver & White 2005). -

Farfan 2010 Abstract The focus of this thesis is the ecology of invasive millipedes (Diplopoda) in the family Julidae. This particular group of millipedes are thought to be introduced into North America from Europe and are now widely found in many urban, anthropogenic habitats in the U.S. Why are these animals such effective colonizers and why do they seem to be mostly present in anthropogenic habitats? In a review of the literature addressing the role of millipedes in nutrient cycling, the interactions of millipedes and communities of fungi and bacteria are discussed. The presence of millipedes stimulates fungal growth while fungal hyphae and bacteria positively effect feeding intensity and nutrient assimilation efficiency in millipedes. Millipedes may also utilize enzymes from these organisms. In a continuation of the study of the ecology of the family Julidae, a comparative study was completed on mites associated with millipedes in the family Julidae in eastern North America and the United Kingdom. The goals of this study were: 1. To establish what mites are present on these millipedes in North America 2. To see if this fauna is the same as in Europe 3. To examine host association patterns looking specifically for host or habitat specificity. -

For Diplopoda, 34 members are enumerated, for which 31 are described as new fossil records of the orders Siphonophorida Newport, 1844, Spirobolida Bollman, 1893, Polydesmida Leach, 1895, Stemmiulida Pocock, 1894, and the superorder Juliformia Attems, 1926. For Chilopoda 8 fossils are listed, for which 3 are new records of the order Geophilomorpha Pocock, 1895 and 2 are of the order Scolopendromorpha Pocock, 1895. Another millipede of Euryuridae, Illiniurus beattyi Shear, is considered to be an aberrant specimen and therefore not a true species. The family taxonomic history of Euryuridae is briefly covered with a discussion of gonopod anatomy. -

For the 1st time in the order Sphaerotheriida, daily activities of the giant pill-millipede Zephronia cf. viridescens Attems, 1936 (family Zephroniidae) were studied. In 2009 and 2010, an investigation was conducted during the rainy season (May-Sept.), the period when millipedes are most active, in a deciduous forest at Wiang Sa District, Nan Province, Thailand. From a total of 20 observation periods of 1 d each, 16 males and 23 females were marked with acrylic paint on the anal shield, and each was optically observed in its natural habitat every 30 min for 24 h. Key visually discernible activities of each individual, such as feeding, walking, mating, and resting, were recorded.
