RECEPTION: A Busy and Varied Term Reception children have had a busy term and have invited their parents into school to share in their learning. Earlier in the term parents and carers went on an autumn walk together and looked at the different type of houses they saw around the area near to the school. They also held a literacy morning for parents to find out more about how the children are taught literacy in the Reception classes. In November parents were asked to think about being healthy and active with their children. Reception teacher Miss Bradbury said: “The children talked about healthy foods and what makes a healthy lunchbox. They also talked about ways to stay healthy and shared these ideas with their parents. The parents found out different ways to keep healthy and supported the children by joining in a range of activities.” Then, on Monday 7th December, parents and grandparents were invited into their classrooms to help make Christmas decorations and Christmas cards.

YEAR 1 Celebrations This term, Year 1 have been finding out about celebrations. From birthdays to Thanksgiving, from weddings to Hanukkah, we have been finding out about how celebrations are important to different people. For the entry point we planned and carried out our very own pretend wedding. Violet was the bride and Abhirup was the groom, we had a full wedding party consisting of best man, father of the bride, bridesmaids and flower girls. It was a very busy day. We compared how weddings were the same and how they were different. We have been looking at a range of different celebrations and how food, decorations and costumes are important. YEAR 2 People of the Past Last term’s topic for Year 2 was all about People of the Past in which they learnt about significant individuals from history such as Rosa Parks, Alexander Graham Bell and local man William Knibb. Pupils from both 2MF and 2JB held class assemblies at the beginning of this term and presented what they had learnt about in class to their parents. After 2MF’s class assembly, Mrs Madeline Fernandes praised the pupils for their fantastic assembly and she said: “The children have learnt about a handful of famous people and I wonder who out of this class will become famous adults themselves some day?”

On Tuesday, 10th November lead staff members for the KSA DofE scheme, Vice Principal Mr Segalini and English teacher Miss Davies (pictured below) attended an awards ceremony for the region at Kettering Park Hotel. They were among representatives from other schools in the county to receive the new centre accreditation. The certificate was presented to the Academy by the Lord Lieutenant for Northamptonshire, Mr David Laing. Miss Davies said: “Receiving the award is a fantastic chance for the school to continue offering a range of opportunities for all students, regardless of background or academic ability.
