EMERGENCE: EPISTEMOLOGICAL AND METAPHYSICAL ISSUES Universidad del País Vasco, UPV/EHU Donostia-San Sebastián, 26–27 de octubre 2017 PRACTICAL INFORMATION (v01) Venue The Conference will take place in the premises of the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC): Donostia International Physics Center Paseo Manuel de Lardizabal, 4. 20018 Donostia-San Sebastián. Please visit their webpage for further details and location: http://dipc.ehu.es Travel There are three main airports you can fly into to reach Sebastián, i.e. San Sebastián Airport (IATA code: EAS), Bilbao Airport (IATA code: BIO), and Biarritz Airport (in France, IATA code: BIQ). San Sebastián Airport, Spain (IATA code: EAS, 25 km. from the city center). San Sebastián airport is next to the town of Hondarribia. This is a small airport with domestic connections to and from Madrid and Barcelona, mostly with Iberia Airlines. It is the best option if you fly via Madrid, for instance. Taxis get you to the city center in about 20-30 minutes (fares are around 30-35 euros). There is also public transport (i.e. bus) taking you to the city center. The best public transport options are bus lines E21, E23 and E28 operated by Ekialdebus. In particular, lines E23 and E28 will get you to city area where the university is located (bus stop “Zumalakarregi, 9”). Timetables and routes may be found in their webpage (in Spanish and Basque only, sorry!): http:// www.ekialdebus.eus. Bilbao Airport, Spain (IATA code: BIO, 90 km. from the city). Bilbao has an international airport about 1 hour and 15 min. drive from San Sebastián with connections to all major cities in Europe. A taxi from Bilbao Airport to San Sebastián is very expensive (they can charge up to 180 or 200 euros one way) but there is also a direct shuttle bus running frequently. Buses leave every hour from Bilbao Airport and get to San Sebastián’s Bus Station in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Timetables are available on the bus company’s website: http://www.pesa.net/pesa/en/horarios. You may buy your tickets on their website as well but I recommend not to do that, at least for your incoming trip. The reason is that tickets sold online are only valid for the specific bus service and time chosen when purchased, and cannot be used if, for whatever reason, your flight is delayed and you don’t get on time to catch the bus on time. So I think is best if you just buy your tickets directly from the driver. You will need to pay cash, though (no credit cards are accepted in that case)! Biarritz Airport, France (IATA code: BIQ, 50 km. from the city). Biarritz airport is about 40 minutes drive from San Sebastián. Air France as well as some low-cost airlines such as Ryanair fly there. This is a convenient option if flying via Paris or from London (with Ryanair!). From Biarritz, you may take a bus or a taxi (that can be expensive, though) to the city. Buses are run either by PESA (http://www.pesa.net/pesa/en/horarios) or CONDA/ALSA (https://www.alsa.es/ en/) bus companies, and get you to San Sebastián’s Bus Station (http://www.estaciondonostia.com/en). Check the airport website at http://en.biarritz.aeroport.fr/location/biarritz-airport-access.html for details on the bus services available and timetables (scroll down the page to "Getting to and from Spain”). San Sebastián can also be reached by train, via Hendaye, on the French-Spanish border. There is a fairly good French TGV service reaching Hendaye (for instance, TGV trains take about 6 hours from Paris to Hendaye). If you are arriving by train in Hendaye, you may either take a cab to the city (fares should be about to those from San Sebastián Airport), or a local train operated by Euskotren. Euskotren trains leave right off Hendaye station to San Sebastián every half an hour. They take you to the city in about 40 minutes.
