Other dealers use a variety including ‘fine’ which I would rather leave to coins etc. Illus = illustrations (as opposed to ‘plates’); ex lib = had an earlier life in library Military Biography 6 service (generally public) and is showing signs of wear (these books are generally 1st editions mores the pity but in this catalogue most have been restored); eps + Military General 7 end papers, front and rear, ex libris or ‘book plate’; indicates it came from a private collection and has a book plate stuck in the front end papers. Books such as these are generally in good condition and the book plate, if it has provenance, Napoleonic, Crimean & Victorian 9 ie, is linked to someone important, may increase the value of the book, inscr = inscription, either someone’s name or a presentation inscription; fep = front end paper; the paper following the front cover and immediately preceding the half title Naval 11 page; biblio: bibliography of sources used in the compilation of a work (important to some military historians as it opens up many other leads). or.cl. = original cloth Special Forces & Airborne 12 generally indicating there is no dust wrapper; restored; generally means a book has had the treatment by a book binder. So if you want it quick use Express—bit slower is the 3kg Western Front 18 red satchel - $15 which includes post pack and TLC). Our terms for first-time buyers are ‘payment up front’. Established buyers World War 2 1939-1945 19 can pay by credit card, cheque, money order etc on receipt of an invoice. May 2015 sees very heavy rain falling here in down-town Perth, normally arguably Australia’s driest capital city. Ah, to see it belt down all day yesterday, all night last night and continuing today. Our local gem Hyde Park lake will hopefully fill up and give the water birds a nice little leg up. When it dries out its like a stagnant swamp. It was the main source of water for the early pioneers from 1829 but was also very important to the local Noongar tribes. But, like everything, urbanisation has overwhelmed them and pushed them to the fringes. Thousands of people use the park each day, the walking paths and kids play grounds are most popular as is the grassed areas used by yoga groups, and is a microcosm of the cultural diversity we have in Perth. We even have a band stand and vast areas where art fairs are held. All this 100 metres from this Book Room. Ah, life in the city. Vastly different from living in the bush and much more exciting. Having a bookroom here at home open strictly by appointment, ticks quite a few boxes. The fact that we’re not paying exorbitant rent to sell heaps of books sales each week just to pay the outgoings - both these things are eliminated by being an on-line, catalogue dealer open by appointment. (and the kettle is always on). Also my gym (Beatty Park) is literally just down the road so when I get my finger out and get up at 5.30, get the papers read on my I-pad and get to the gym by 6.30, home by 7.30, finish breakfast by 8am, pack Jo’s lunch (she’s a manic walker doing 10 to 15 kms a day) - so by 9am I’m either working on my book list or writing more of the ‘Ray Simpson Biography Project’ which is nearing completion. I get to bed late and sleep fitfully but it seems to be enough (add a small nap mid afternoon and I’m OK) I also try and walk a few k’s in the afternoons before I cook dinner. My knees are pretty 2nd hand at the moment—trying to put off the ‘chain saw’ as long as I can. Syn Visc is next. So...books for sale—got a few gems in this list so get stuck in folks. As usual I dedicate this list to our Defence Force who are in harm’s way and to those who have gone before. Your efforts are always treasured. And those not travelling well, we hear you brothers!!
