  • Happy Christmas (War Is Over!)
HAPPY CHRISTMAS (WAR IS OVER!) On March 20th 1969 John Lennon married Yoko Ono. Knowing their marriage would be a huge press event, John and Yoko decided to use the publicity to promote world peace. They spent their honeymoon in the presidential suite (Room 902) at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel for a week between March 25 and 31, inviting the world's press into their hotel room every day between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. It was their non-violent way of protesting against wars and promoting peace. Their second Bed-In took place in Montreal, Canada on May 26th 1969. During their seven-day stay, they sang the peace anthem "Give Peace a Chance", and recorded it in the hotel room on June 1st. On December 15th 1969 John and Yoko spread their messages of peace with billboards reading "WAR IS OVER! If You Want It - Happy Christmas From John and Yoko". These billboards went up in twelve major world cities : New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Rome, Athens, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Helsinki. Although “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” was apparently about the Vietnam War, it proved a universal message understood worldwide. VOCABULAIRE : 1. • Ringo Starr Actuarà Per Primera Vegada En Solitari a Barcelona Aquest Dimarts El Bateria De the Beatles Ho Farà En El Marc Del Guitar BCN 2018

  • The Beatles BC
Last Updated: 29 Jn 20 If you have a copy of Introducing the Beatles that you are trying to identify ... search on this page for 1062. Beatles records in the United States are typically found on the Capitol or Apple label. But people often ask about records, such as Introducing the Beatles, which were released by companies other than Capitol/Apple. In these articles, I will attempt to discuss the history of Beatles recordings in the US which predate their Capitol contract. Known variations of those records will be listed, along with their approximate values. The first Beatles record released anywhere was "My Bonnie" and "The Saints," with the Beatles backing Tony Sheridan. This German record (Polydor NH 24-673) was issued in two forms (with a German intro or an English intro) and with a picture sleeve. [More information can be found in this article about the Beatles' association with Tony Sheridan.] "My Bonnie" was Tony's first record and his break into the record industry. As many people know, the word "Beatles" was considered difficult to interpret by Germans, so Polydor billed the artist as Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers (October 1961). From that point on, Tony's band was known as the Beat Brothers, which caused some confusion to later Beatles fans. In January of 1962, Beatles manager Brian Epstein began negotiating with Polydor to release "My Bonnie" in England. Because of his negotiations, the UK "My Bonnie" release (Polydor NH 66-833) showed the artist as "Tony Sheridan and the Beatles." The record sold modestly, apparently well enough to consider releasing it in America.

  • A History of International Beatleweek (PDF)
The History of International Beatleweek International Beatleweek celebrates the most famous band in the world in the city where it was born – attracting thousands of Fab Four fans and dozens of bands to Liverpool each year. The history of Beatleweek goes back to 1977 when Liverpool’s first Beatles Convention was held at Mr Pickwick’s club in Fraser Street, off London Road. The two-day event, staged in October, was organised by legendary Cavern Club DJ Bob Wooler and Allan Williams, entrepreneur and The Beatles’ early manager, and it included live music, guest speakers and special screenings. In 1981, Liz and Jim Hughes – the pioneering couple behind Liverpool’s pioneering Beatles attraction, Cavern Mecca – took up the baton and arranged the First Annual Mersey Beatle Extravaganza at the Adelphi Hotel. It was a one-day event on Saturday, August 29 and the special guests were Beatles authors Philip Norman, Brian Southall and Tony Tyler. In 1984 the Mersey Beatle event moved to St George’s Hall where guests included former Cavern Club owner Ray McFall, Beatles’ press officer Tony Barrow, John Lennon’s uncle Charles Lennon and ‘Father’ Tom McKenzie. Cavern Mecca closed in 1984, and after the city council stepped in for a year to keep the event running, in 1986 Cavern City Tours was asked to take over the Mersey Beatle Convention. It has organised the annual event ever since. International bands started to make an appearance in the late 1980s, with two of the earliest groups to make the journey to Liverpool being Girl from the USA and the USSR’s Beatle Club.
