As many of you already know, Matthew has accepted the important role as Surrey’s new Junior Performance Coach. Matthew confidently steered TWC’s cricket section with excellence over the past three years, both on and off the field. Matthew has become an integral part of the Wimbledon cloth and leaves behind a legacy that will help shape the future of the junior section for years to come. His impact will be missed off the field but, in fantastic news that I am delighted to confirm, his efforts for the mighty Dons will continue on the field as he returns as a playing member in 2018. A special congratulations to the Travelbag Surrey Championship, in which all our adult league teams compete, as they celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2018. Many Wimbledon alumnus have and are serving on the Championship committee, these include Paul Bedford, Crispin Lyden-Cowan, Simon Robins and Alexandra Anderson. • Effects of Various Training Techniques on Bat Velocity of High School Baseball Players
International Journal for Innovation Education and Research ISSN 2411-2933 01 May 2021 Effects of Various Training Techniques on Bat Velocity of High School Baseball Players Ethan R. Crocker Baseball Coach, Mt. Ida High School, Mt. Ida, Arkansas, USA. Madeline L. Dow Biology Teacher, Freshmen Volleyball Coach, and Assistant Softball Coach, Castleberry High School, Ft. Worth, Texas, USA. Gina Kraft (Corresponding author) Associate Professor, Dept. of Health and Physical Education, Arkansas Tech University, Russellville, Arkansas, USA. Abstract Faster bat speed allows a baseball or softball player more time to decide how to hit the ball and provides more transfer of momentum to the ball (Nathan, 2003; Syzmanski, DeRenne, Spaniol, 2009). Purpose: This paper examines the effectiveness of three training strategies for improving bat speed among high school baseball players. Methods: Nine high school students were recruited and separated into 3 groups using different training implements. A standard bat (29 oz.), a weighted bat (45 oz.), and Therabands attached to a standard bat were used over a 3-week training program. Data were analyzed using a Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA. Results: The standard bat group experienced no change in bat speed (± 0.89), while the weighted bat group increased by 1.9 ± 0.46 mph and the Theraband group improved by 3.1 ± 0.38 mph. The only significant difference was in the change in bat speed between the Theraband group and the standard bat group (p = .022). All other data were non-significant. Conclusions: Attaching Therabands to a standard bat may be an effective training tool to improve bat speed. Keywords: bat speed, standard bat, theraband, weighted bat, training implements 1.

  • Nmc Top 100 Scout Games
NMC TOP 100 SCOUT GAMES Hi All My name is Jimmy Cunningham and I'm a member of the NMC and also Provincial Commissioner for the North East Province. I think that the Centenary Badge and the Procedure for achieving this gives great scope for exploring various new programme ideas for our groups. As you knew the criteria for achieving the 2nd part of this Badge meant completing a task to organize a programme item that includes the number 100. As a member of the NMC I felt it was important that we as a group took a lead in this. So I took on the challenge of compiling this games book which I hope will be of great use to all Section leaders in the country. I hope this book will give all leaders in all sections a resource of games for their Meetings and Camps. The original idea I had was to compile 100 games with each of the 20 members of NMC contributing 5 games each. But as I couldn’t achieve this I opened it up to all groups in the country and got some but not a lot of replies. I made my target of 100 games. I have also added an extra 219 games book of my own to the back which divides games into different categories for ease of use. I want to thank Vincent Burns and Declan Reilly for their help in compiling this book. I want to thank all the people that took time out to email me their games and I have included them in the book with an acknowledgement that it was their selection.

Live Sports Commentating: A Comparative Study of Cricket, Football, Horse Racing and Tennis Commentaries Thesis presented to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of the University of Zurich for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by lic. phil. Aleksandar Popov Accepted in the spring semester 2019 on the recommendation of Prof. em. Dr. Udo Fries and Prof. Dr. Daniel Schreier Zurich, 2019 Abstract The aim of this doctoral thesis is to investigate the linguistic features of spoken English sports commentating. Sports commentary is a combination of narration and entertainment, and an easily recognisable form of communicating information to a mass audience. By examining a corpus of 160,000 words transcribed from live cricket, football, horse racing and tennis commentaries broadcast on UK television and radio, a quantitative and qualitative study is carried out for the purpose of determining the effects of three factors on the language produced by sports commentators: the nature of the sport, the nature of the broadcast medium and developments over time, defined by the interval between two sets of recordings (1996–2002 and 2013–2015).
