Advance registration is required. Join us online with Ron Lewis, a docent at The Mariners’ Museum and Park, as he seeks to find answers about the arrival of early explorers from Europe and Scandinavia in North America. Viewers are welcome to send Ron comments or questions, which she will answer following the presentation. About the presentation: Who was here first? Why, Indigenous people, of course! That may oversimplify the settlement of early Asian Nomads who crossed the Bering land bridge and decided to stay! But how about the early European and Scandinavian explorers to our continent? The Norsemen traveled far and wide, sometimes by design, sometimes by accident. That they landed in North America is generally undisputed but, where exactly, did they make land? And where did they come from? How important were their voyages of discovery, pillage, and exploitation in the era before the Age of Exploration? And where did they go after a couple of centuries of notoriety? How did they live? We’ll examine myths and facts during this interactive presentation, learn how to write Viking runes, and decide whether we are Vikings! 100 Museum Drive, 757-596-2222.
