Period of Visit The team was in the southern half of Sweden from the afternoon of Monday, 3rd May to the afternoon of Monday, 31st May, 1965; Tuesday, 1st June and the morning of Wednesday, June 2nd were spent in Norway in and near Oslo. Terms of Reference The team was given the following terms of reference:— The main object of the visit to Sweden is to study managerial, organisational and technical practices which seem likely to assist in promoting greater efficiency in the creation and maintenance of state and private woodlands at home and in the harvesting and transport wood to consumer industries. The emphasis must be on problems likely to be of some practical importance in Britain rather than on problems which may be interesting but not significant under British forestry conditions. Particular Terms"of Reference (i) Utilisation and Marketing To study the management aspect of the utilisation, harvesting, trans­ port and marketing of production which (a) arises in many individually small woodlands but which (b) can only be utilised economically in large processing factories. The study should cover the role played by the State Forest Service in assisting in the marketing of timber from such private woodlands; the overall marketing policy of the State Forest Service; the day-to-day organisation of the State Forest Service (at district level) in this context. Co-operative marketing by woodland owners and co-operative buying by processing plants should also be covered in the study. (ii) Harvesting and Engineering To study harvesting (logging and transport) methods, road lay-out and forest machinery. The study will involve obtaining up-to-date information on current trends and discernible trends in forest road lay-out, logging methods (including extraction and road transport) related to our present thinning practice and to future exploitation of mature crops. Partial convertion at stump or roadside, loading methods and devices, types of transport, types of equipment and machines. ii The above terms of reference were supplemented by the following guidance which was given both to the team and to those in Sweden who arranged the tour:— The main object of the visit to Sweden is to study from the Managerial Organisational . Technical f AsPects Economic practices and ideas which might help to promote greater efficiency in the marketing, harvesting, and transport of wood to industries (pulpmills and sawmills). Problems of Special Interest to Mr. Holtam and Mr. Harker (as Timber Marketing Officers) Overall marketing policy of State Forest Service; organisation of log auctions; trends in marketing, that is trends towards more or towards fewer auction sales? Role and influence (if any) of State Forest Sales policy on private sales. Organisation of Swedish State Forest Service at conservancy and district level. Organisation of private forestry, etc. County level with special reference to (i) planning and to (ii) marketing, harvesting and transport of wood from relatively small wood lots. Organisation of marketing, harvesting and transport of wood by private owners co-operatives at national and regional level. Planning and execution of logging operations in large (share capital) companies. Wage agreements. Sawmilling industry (problems of rationalisation and log supplies to smaller sawmills). Road spacing problems and practice. Problems of Special Interest to Mr. Chapman and Mr. Ross (as Work Study Officers) Harvesting methods (logging, skidding, conversion, transport). (a) Present Practices (b) Future Trends Types of equipment and machines used in harvesting (logging, skidding, conversion, and transport), especially tractors and tractor mounted devices. Our hosts were not only outstanding in their respec tive fields of know­ ledge but, without exception, all were patient, kind and forthright in answering our endless questions. We offer to each one of them our warmest thanks for all their generous and friendly help. They are not all mentioned in the text, but the appendix to Part I gives a list of the firms and organisations which we visited with the names of those whom we met. The British Motor Corporation very kindly lent us an Austin 1800 saloon car for our travels in Norway and Sweden. We are grateful to the Corporation for this and to Mr. G. Clarke, the Commission’s Chief Purchasing Officer, for having made the arrangements for the loan on our behalf. Mr. J. R. So we can - and usually do - consider everything as having the units of some power of mass. Geiger 1Department of Research, Informativity Institute, Chicago, IL, USA Abstract It has been a long-standing goal in physics to present a physical model that may be used to describe and correlate the physical constants. We demonstrate, this is achieved by describing phenomena in terms of Planck Units and introducing a new concept, counts of Planck Units. Thus, we express the existing laws of classical mechanics in terms of units and counts of units to demonstrate that the physical constants may be expressed using only these terms. But this is not just a nomenclature substitution. With this approach we demonstrate that the constants and the laws of nature may be described with just the count terms or just the dimensional unit terms. Moreover, we demonstrate that there are three frames of reference important to observation. And with these principles we resolve the relation of the physical constants. And we resolve the SI values for the physical constants. Notably, we resolve the relation between gravitation and electromagnetism.   • Should Physical Laws Be Unit-Invariant?
    Should physical laws be unit-invariant? 1. Introduction In a paper published in this journal in 2015, Sally Riordan reviews a recent debate about whether fundamental constants are really “constant”, or whether they may change over cosmological timescales. Her context is the impending redefinition of the kilogram and other units in terms of fundamental constants – a practice which is seen as more “objective” than defining units in terms of human artefacts. She focusses on one particular constant, the fine structure constant (α), for which some evidence of such a variation has been reported. Although α is not one of the fundamental constants involved in the proposed redefinitions, it is linked to some which are, so that there is a clear cause for concern. One of the authors she references is Michael Duff, who presents an argument supporting his assertion that dimensionless constants are more fundamental than dimensioned ones; this argument employs various systems of so-called “natural units”. [see Riordan (2015); Duff (2004)] An interesting feature of this discussion is that not only Riordan herself, but all the papers she cites, use a formula for α that is valid only in certain systems of units, and would not feature in a modern physics textbook. This violates another aspect of objectivity – namely, the idea that our physical laws should be expressed in such a way that they are independent of the particular units we choose to use; they should be unit-invariant. In this paper I investigate the place of unit-invariance in the history of physics, together with its converse, unit-dependence, which we will find is a common feature of some branches of physics, despite the fact that, as I will show in an analysis of Duff’s argument, unit-dependent formulae can lead to erroneous conclusions.

The amenities have characteristics of private and public goods. In this thesis, measures of attitudes and values towards different forest amenities were studied by means of mail surveys and existing literature. In paper I, the attitudes of private forest owners regarding different forest amenities (timber production, outdoor recreation and biodiversity) were investigated and compared with the forest advisors’ interpretation of the forest owners’ attitudes. The survey was conducted in three regions of Sweden (South, Central and North). The results indicated that the timber production was the most important amenity to the private forest owners, followed by outdoor recreation and biodiversity. The forest officers’ understanding of what was important to forest owners did not consistently coincide with the attitudes of the forest owners. Other aspects of outdoor recreation and biodiversity among stakeholder groups of the Swedish public were studied in papers II, III and IV. In paper II, a travel cost analysis was used to estimate the recreational value of the forests in the southernmost part of Sweden (Skåne and Blekinge).

I do this by taking Isa. 6:3 as my example. My liturgical material is the qedushah liturgies in Ashkenazi Judaism and the Sanctus in three church traditions; (pre-1969) Roman Catholicism, Anglicanism (the Church of England) and Lutheranism (Martin Luther, and the Church of Sweden).
