The mix is deliberately balanced, just as it should be in a city. For different requirements and different people. I hope, that such houses will also fill and revive previously neglected urban space. Therefore, opening the Berlin city centre is a very welcome and important development; the city must be inhabited.

What does this mean for future residents? With such minute detailing and individuality, we are not only creating a worthy building in the urban space at Köllnischer Park, but also a nice row of high-value properties. In central Berlin, we perceive ourselves as inhabitants of a small, elegant and noble entity, with few close neighbours. So, living here is straightforward and individual and it feels like a pleasant retreat. A place of rest which is forward-looking at the same time, opening up a good deal to the city – if the resident so wishes.

What is the basic idea you worked with here? NADIA KAYAT It was important to us to SUBTLE work with and develop what was already here. Embassy does not look like something that has been made, it looks like something that has been MINIMALISM born. Reflecting this diversity in the interior and incorporating and emphasizing the great view was a key prerequisite for the designs. All of the versions build on each other and are easy to individualise and adapt to the different apartments and their future residents.

But it is important The interplay of colour and light plays a big role here, that’s true. But the materials are also important. We have selected very high-quality materials and furniture that are durable and valuable, develop a good patina and have a poetic character, in keeping with the surroundings and the building itself. Elements that are in harmony, not just to the eye, but also to the touch. And we love working with reflections and mirror images that create special highlights and have that certain wow factor.

You also design the interiors of luxurious hotels. Is it possible to draw parallels with residential buildings here? The hotel and even the gastronomic industry does a great job of making the maximum use of rooms and assigning specific purposes to individual areas. And given, that there is a trend towards smaller housing units, it is possible to transfer this in part. Again, light plays a big role in creating intimacy and the perfect mood and creates a subtle yet palpable distance between residential and working areas, for example.

How do you create space in the smaller apartments that still feels open and clear? Tidiness and spaciousness requires smart storage space. We examined this question many VISUALIZATION NON-BINDING years ago and looked at how this is done in Asia, where people have to live in confined spaces.
