The Chief, Airport Police serves as the top sworn officer for the Shreveport Airport Authority (SAA). This position manages all activities of the Airport Police Department (APD) and ensures the Airport’s compliance with Transportation Security Regulation (TSR) Part 1542 and support of Federal Aviation Regulation Part 139, or other legislative regulations and complementary Airport Authority rules, policies and procedures; that provide the basis for safe, secure, orderly and efficient operation of the Authority’s system of airports. GENERAL DESCRIPTION This position reports to the Director of Airports as Manager, Security and Police Services and is responsible for the enforcement of laws and security regulations; traffic operations; airport security compliance and support; and the overall leadership and administration of airport law enforcement functions. The incumbent is part of the SAA leadership team and is expected to maintain highly effective relationships with SAA leadership, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), airline management and airport tenants. In addition, the incumbent must be willing to engage, develop and maintain professional relationships with law enforcement peers on the local, state and federal level. Issues, maintains and enforces Airport Police Policy, Procedures, General Orders, and Training documents. In support of the Airport Security Plan (ASP), incumbent will function as an Alternate Airport Security Coordinator (ASC). MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Knowledge, Skills and Abilities This position requires strong leadership abilities, highly effective communication skills and well-rounded law enforcement operational experience. Knowledge of local, state, and Transportation Security Regulations are a must. The candidate must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. In addition to excellent communications skills, candidate must have fluency in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and internet resourcing, as well as demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and utilize other department technology currently in use. Must be able to assess situations quickly, objectively, and determine the proper course of action within established rules, regulations, and procedures while representing the Shreveport Airport Authority in a professional, positive manner. The ability to develop and maintain a strong team is an essential function. Key to the success of the candidate are the skills necessary to develop an efficient and effective law enforcement organization with an emphasis on cultivating and sustaining a highly effective work environment focused on staff morale, professionalism, dedication, loyalty and comradery. Training and Experience Position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in criminal justice or a related field and ten years of experience in a police agency at the administrative/managerial level; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered. Position requires State of Louisiana Peace Officer’s Standard Training (POST) Certification or the ability to obtain this certification. Certificates and Licenses State of Louisiana driver’s license is required. OTHER JOB ASPECTS For security reasons, as per TSA Part 1540 and 1542; all applicant employees of the Shreveport Airport Authority who have access to restricted areas will be required to have a 10-year criminal history check to the extent allowable by law. As an appointed employee you will be eligible to participate in a Deferred Compensation 457 Plan and/or the Employees Retirement System. Employees are entitled to paid vacation and sick leave after completion of a six-month probationary period in accordance with the City of Shreveport’s Personnel Rules and Regulations. The annual salary for this position is $80,000.00.
