Referee Appointed for Semi-Final in Milan Media Release Date: 24/04/2005 Communiqué aux médias No. 057 Medien-Mitteilung Referee appointed for semi-final in Milan The UEFA Referees Committee today announced that Greek referee Kyros Vassaras will officiate at the first leg of the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League semi-final between AC Milan and PSV Eindhoven to be played at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan on Tuesday 26 April, kicking-off at 20.45 CET. His assistant referees will be Simeon Tsolakidis and Panagiotis Mavropoulos, while the 4th Official will be George Kasnaferis. All four members of the team are from Greece. Kyros Vassaras, 39, has been a referee for 21 years; made his first division debut ten years ago and has been a FIFA referee since 1998. He played the role of 4th Official at EURO 2000™ and UEFA EURO 2004™; was selected for the FIFA World Cup 2002, where he officiated at the China v Costa Rica match; and was also in the refereeing team for the Athens Olympics last summer, where he officiated at four matches, including the final between Argentina and Paraguay. This will be the third visit to San Siro for Kyros Vassaras for AC Milan matches. The first was on 18 September 2002, when the Italian team defeated RC Lens 2-1 and the second produced an identical scoreline but the other way round when RC Celta de Vigo visited the stadium on 9 December 2003 and earned an away win that secured their place in the next round. Kyros Vassaras also officiated at AC Milan’s 1- 0 win over FC Lokomotiv in Moscow on 25 February 2003 and their 0-0 draw with Celtic FC in Glasgow during the current campaign – on 7 December 2004, to be precise. Whereas all of his meetings with AC Milan have been UEFA Champions League fixtures, his only previous contact with PSV Eindhoven was in the UEFA Cup when, on 15 February 2001, the Dutch side recorded a 2-1 home win over Italian opponents Parma AC.

Portugal then overtook them in the initial standings thanks to a 2-0 win against Turkey in Geneva, Pepe and Raul Meireles the scorers. • This is a fixture that will stir memories of EURO '96™ and the only previous meeting between the countries – one settled in the Czechs' favour by a famous goal from Karel Poborský. • Poborský's cheeky lob over Vítor Baía after 53 minutes secured a 1-0 victory for the Czechs in the quarter-final at Villa Park in Birmingham.

A year also separates Düsseldorf and Zagreb, my first year as UEFA president. I do not want to go over or even just summarise what has been achieved in that time – such reports tend to be exercises which aim to present achievements in the best light possible. Words are vital when it comes to presenting a manifesto, but then it is the deeds that matter, and I hope that everyone has been able to see for themselves that the manifesto I presented at the UEFA Congress in Düsseldorf was not simply a list of good intentions but a programme that we got down to right away, for the IN THIS ISSUE sake of the unity of European football and the defence of its interests. Dialogue and the desire to find joint solutions with the national associations, UEFA Champions League first knockout round 03 leagues, clubs, professional footballers and everyone else involved in our game are the keystone of our efforts to build new and positive relations between all European Elite Women’s Coaches’ Forum 08 football stakeholders.

Introduction FC Barcelona celebrate victory at the Stade de France. The 2006 UEFA Champions League victors have no problems with the rulings on ‘locally-trained’ players introduced for the 2006/07 season. PHOTO: FOTO-NET Season 2006 – 2007 Contents Season President’s Message 3 2006 / 2007 1st Qualifying Round Results 4 2nd Qualifying Round Results 6 3rd Qualifying Round Results 8 Group Stage 10 Regulations 14 2 President’s Message The fifteenth season of UEFA Champions League football is a special one. A year ago, we were celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first-ever final in the old ‘European Cup’ and using that as a good excuse for some nostalgic reading of the history books. This season, the emphasis is well and truly on the future - the future of the game and the future of the people who play it. I’m referring to the new chapter in the regulations of this competition, where four places in each squad are earmarked for ‘locally-trained players’. You might not think that this is a major change. But, as time goes by, more places will be reserved for them and the 2006/07 campaign marks the first step in what I think is a very right direction. It was a subject we had discussed in great depth within our Executive Committee, within all sectors of the game and with people in political circles. And it is a decision which has my wholehearted support. Fortunately, I am by no means the only one who believes that talent needs to be developed and not just bought.
