Palabras clave: Copa de Europa, futbol, historia, LiverpoolUEFA Date : 1 noviembre 2019 Participantes: Un año más España, Italia e Inglaterra -por este orden- encabezaban la tabla quinquenal de la UEFA y colocaban a sus cuatro primeros clasificados de Liga en la máxima competición europea. También repetían en la segunda zona Alemania, Francia y Grecia para participar con tres representantes. Los campeones y subcampeones de estos seis países entraban directamente en la fase de grupos mientras que los otros -terceros y cuartos- tendrían que jugar la tercera eliminatoria previa. Completaban el cupo de plaza directa los campeones de Portugal, Holanda, Escocia y Turquía. Sus respectivos subcampeones disputarían la tercera ronda preliminar salvo el de Turquía que ya entraba en la segunda ronda. Bélgica, Chequia. Suiza, Ucrania e Israel también tuvieron dos representantes. Los campeones de estos países jugaban la tercera ronda y los subcampeones la segunda. Austria, que contaba con una plaza, también entraba en juego en la tercera ronda. El resto de federaciones solo participaban con su campeón nacional. Kazajistán no pudo participar al no recibir el visto bueno de la FIFA. Tampoco entraron los campeones de Andorra y San Marino aunque sí disputaban la Copa de la UEFA. Tres equipos españoles lideraban la tabla quinquenal de la UEFA y por lo tanto eran los mejor colocados en las apuestas para conseguir el torneo: junto al Real Madrid, con la mayor puntuación, estaban Barcelona y Valencia, que regresaban a la competición tras un año fuera de ella. Los valencianistas lo hacían como campeones nacionales y los barcelonistas como 1 / 91 Cuadernos de Fútbol Revista de CIHEFE https://www.cihefe.es/cuadernosdefutbol subcampeones, por lo que los madridistas tendrían que superar una ronda para acceder a las liguillas. El cuarto equipo español era el Deportivo de La Coruña que lo hacía por quinta edición consecutiva. Al igual que el Real Madrid, también debería salvar una ronda para pasar a la fase de grupos. Junto a las 35 participaciones del Real Madrid estaban con 26 el Benfica de Lisboa y con 24 el Rangers Glasgow, siendo cada vez más numerosos los equipos que sumaban veinte o más presencias en la competición. Hubo siete clubs debutantes, todos ellos pertenecientes a federaciones modestas. Los dieciséis clasificados disputarían las eliminatorias directas a doble partido hasta la final que se decidía a un juego. En caso de empate se disputaba prórroga en el segundo partido y de persistir la igualada, el mayor número de goles en campo contrario era el primer referente para dar el equipo clasificado y en su defecto el vencedor de la tanda de penaltis. No hubo goleadas espectaculares y solo el Kauno FBK y el ND Gorica pasaron con mucha comodidad.

Sólo de vez en cuando se anima a dar unas zancadas al frente –los comentaristas lo llaman salir de la cueva, como si los centrales fuesen trogloditas‐ pero acaba por pasarla sin ir más allá. Por lo demás resulta un defensa de fiar, a quien sólo se le cruza un cable muy de cuando en cuando; que gustó mucho en Villarreal, algo menos en Londres hasta que una lesión lo mermó y que aquí parece sólidamente instalado sin contradicción de la grada.     Guy Wilkinson PhD Thesis (2017) CHAPTER IV INDIVIDUAL PLAYER CONTRIBUTIONS IN EUROPEAN SOCCER ABSTRACT This paper looks at applying new techniques to predict match outcomes in professional soccer. To achieve this models are used which measure the individual contributions of soccer players within their team. Using data from the top 25 European soccer leagues, the individual contribution of players is measured using high dimensional fixed effects models. Nine years of results are used to produce player, team and manager estimates. A further year of results is used to check for predictive accuracy. Since this has useful applications in player scouting the paper will also look at how well the models rank players. The findings show an average prediction rate of 45% with all methods showing similar rankings for player productivity. While the model highlights the most productive players there is a bias towards players who produce and prevent goals directly. This results in more attackers and defenders ranking highly than midfield players. There is potential for these techniques to be used against the betting market as most models produce better performance than many betting firms. Guy Wilkinson PhD Thesis (2017) 1. The main challenge is to produce accurate estimations of player ability, a problem analogous to research on worker productivity. The study of worker productivity is of great value to businesses in almost every industry. Hiring the best workers will improve the overall performance of business and increase profit. It is of great importance for firms to be able to screen potential employees efficiently to determine their value.

    Sport / Actualité foot Feghouli n’a même pas eu droit à un adieu à Mestalla L’ingratitude des dirigeants du FC Valence Pourtant, il était une des coqueluches du Mestalla malgré la présence de joueurs de haut niveau à l’image du légendaire Albelda, Evan Banega, Negredo, Parejo et autre Soldado. Mais ce statut n’a pas plaidé en faveur de l’international algérien, Sofiane Feghouli, poussé vers la sortie comme un malpropre. Les dirigeants du FC Valence ont tout simplement été ingrats envers un joueur qui a été très correct durant les six années passées avec Los Ches. En effet, l’Algérien était arrivé à Valence en 2010 en provenance de Grenoble, et petit à petit, il s’est fait une place dans l’effectif valencien, surtout après son retour de prêt à Almeria en 2011. Feghouli a porté le maillot de Valence à 244 reprises, il y a inscrit pas moins de 42 buts et a délivré 38 passes décisives. Des chiffres et une présence qui méritent une meilleure fin. “J'aime beaucoup Feghouli. C’est un joueur de qualité. Il n'y a pas beaucoup de joueurs comme lui”, avait déclaré, récemment, Roberto Ayala, l’un des joueurs emblématiques du CF Valencia au sujet du joueur algérien dans une interview accordée à un journal espagnol.
