NUCLEAR TRAINS PETITIONS

1. (nos: 26) Stop the Nuclear Trains We, the undersigned call for an end to the rail transport through London of nuclear fuel rods for reprocessing at Sellafield, noting:- : It posed a threat to health by continually giving off low level radiation : It threatens a mini-Chernobyl type disaster in an accident : Its prime function is to provide Sellafield with plutonium for nuclear bombs : Reprocessing is unnecessary and creates far more radioactive waste than was present in the first place.

2. London (nos: 196) Stop Nuclear Trains coming through London – To the British Government Trains carrying highly radioactive nuclear fuel rods go through many parts of London almost every Thursday. We call on you to stop this dangerous transport, especially through centres of population such as London. These cargoes continually give off radiation – and any increase in radiation-level causes an increased risk of radiation- linked cancers such as leukaemia. We are also concerned at the danger of an accident involving the flask leading to the release of the deadly high-level radiation they contain. Because of these concerns, such transport has already been stopped in Germany, France and Switzerland.

3. London (nos: 51) Stop Nuclear Trains – To the British Government Trains carrying nuclear waste come through London, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Bristol, Sunderland, Preston, Ipswich, Carlisle, Chester, Warrington Lancaster and elsewhere. We call for an end to this transport, especially through built-up areas, because such cargoes continually give off radiation – any increase in radiation-level causes an increased risk of radiation-linked cancers such as leukaemia. We are also concerned at the danger of an accident involving the flask leading to the release of deadly high-level radiation.

4. London (nos: 143) Ban the Nuclear Trains We the undersigned, express our deep concern at the transportation of nuclear waste through London. We believe there is a serious threat to the health and safety of railway workers and the local population. There is, ultimately, no guarantee of safety against accidents in which the flasks are involved.

A serious accident on the could release enough radiation to disrupt life and work, as well as damage the health of thousands.

We call on the CEGB to halt transportation of nuclear waste through populated areas. We call on the Government to review such activity.

5. Brixton (nos: 41) Stop the Nuclear Trains – To the British Government We call for an end to the rail transport of nuclear fuel, which comes through Brixton Station, as it helps in the making of nuclear bombs in Britain – with Thorp open – may Appendix B

do so abroad too. It also poses a grave health hazard due to the radiation it gives off and the danger of a severe accident.

6. Brixton (nos: 58) Stop Nuclear Trains – To the British Government Trains carrying nuclear waste come through Brixton Station.

7. Brixton (nos: 15) Stop Nuclear Trains coming through Brixton Trains carrying radioactive nuclear fuel rods regularly travel across the railway bridge over Brixton Road near the entrance to Brixton tube, on the line between Denmark Hill and Clapham High Street.

This is the most dangerous cargo carried on British railways. We are concerned that a serious accident or terrorist attack could result in the release of the deadly high-level radiation they contain.

We call on the British government to immediately suspend the operation of these trains, pending a thorough review, in the light of the present terrorist threat.

8. Bromley (nos: 102) Stop the Nuclear trains We, the undersigned, call for an end to the rail transport through Bromley of nuclear fuel rods for reprocessing at Sellafield, noting:- : It poses a threat to health by continually giving off low level radiation : It threatens a mini-Chernobyl type disaster in an accident : Its prime function is to provide Sellafield with plutonium for nuclear bombs : Reprocessing is unnecessary and creates far more radioactive waste than was present in the first place.

9. Camden/Hackney etc (nos: 8) Stop the Nuclear Trains We, the undersigned, call for an end to the rail transport through Camden/Hackney of nuclear fuel rods for reprocessing at Sellafield, noting:- : It poses a threat to health by continually giving off low level radiation : It threatens a mini-Chernobyl type disaster in an accident : Its prime function is to provide Sellafield with plutonium for nuclear bombs : Reprocessing is unnecessary and creates far more radioactive waste than was present in the first place.

10. Camden Road (nos: 33) Stop the Nuclear Trains – To the British Government We call for an end to the rail transport of nuclear fuel, which comes through Camden Road station, as it helps in the making of nuclear bombs in Britain and – with THORP open – may do so abroad too.
