  • Warsaw Incentive
Warsaw Incentive WARSAW Although founded late in Polish history (at the beginning of the 14th century), centrally located Warsaw has been Poland's capital on and off since 1596. As a cultural and industrial centre, Warsaw was one of central Europe's most beautiful and sophisticated cities until it scooped the prize for worst ravaged in WW II. Warsaw is essentially a post-war product in both appearance and spirit. Its handful of historic oases has been meticulously reconstructed, but most of the urban landscape is modern. The Old Town was rebuilt from the foundations up because after the war it was nothing but a heap of rubble. The monumental reconstruction, which took place between 1949 and 1963, aimed at restoring the appearance of the town in its best times, the 17th and 18th centuries. Every authentic architectural fragment found among the ruins was incorporated in the restoration. In 1945, the Old Town Square was just the walls of two houses sticking out of the rubble, today it is a harmonious blend of Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic elements. It's alive and atmospheric, doesn't feel contrived, and is replete with open-air cafés and art stalls. PROGRAMME PROPOSAL: Day 1st Arrival, transfer to the hotel with panoramic visit of Warsaw. Welcome drink at the bank of Vistula river with the view over the Old Town and Royal Castle. Separate luggage transfer. Check in, short rest in the hotel. • Destination UPDATE POLAND
destination UPDATE POLAND Poland is situated in Central Europe between the Baltic Sea and the Carpathian Mountains and borders with Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia and a number of former Russian countries. Poland is over 1000 years old and in its early history was a monarchy. Latterly, due to invasion, it became a communist country but since 1989 it has transformed into a democracy with a fully active market economy. In addition, Poland has recently joined the European Union. From an incentive and conference point of view it is a new destination, but has the necessary infrastructure and knowledge to successfully handle this type of business. Much of this is due to companies like MAZURKAS TRAVEL, our recommended DMC in Poland, who have pioneered much of what is on offer and who have fine-tuned the services required to offer you and your clients the best possible service. Like all relatively new democracies, shaking off the shackles of previous systems takes time and bureaucracy can be a bit unwieldy, but with companies like MAZURKAS TRAVEL attitudes are changing fast. The future potential for the EUR 2012 has had a huge impact on infrastructure in Warsaw and currently there is estima ted about 50.000 beds at hotels and improved motorway systems etc. Hotels in Warsaw are also great value for money, with competitive rates for a room at a 5-star hotel cost ing you around 100 – 200 EUR per room/day depending on season. There are also full-day conference packages, which include two coffee breaks and lunch costing from about 70 EUR per day.

Unpublished © Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat / Ryszard Kowalczyk; Jerzy Skrzypczak; Wojciech Olenski History, Theory & Criticism Politics, History, and Height in Warsaw This paper describes the present high-rise boom in Warsaw, which is related to unprecedented development of the capital of Poland in the last 15 years and the spatial expansion of a high-rise zone created 40 years ago on the western side of the city center. Today, Warsaw is ranked fifth in Europe in terms of the number of high-rises and is considered the second-most preferred city in Europe (after London) for high-rise investment (see Table 1). The contemporary Ryszard Kowalczyk Jerzy Skrzypczak skyline of Warsaw combines the historic panorama of the Old Town complex (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980) with a large cluster of modern sky- scrapers around the centrally located Palace of Culture and Science. For the past five years, by using 3-D computer simulations, it has been possible for urban planners to design a future city skyline with new skyscrapers while maintaining visual protection of the Old Town silhouette. Wojciech Olenski Introduction will occur in the near future (see Table 2), as the next ten high-rises are planned here, half of Authors The contemporary skyline of Warsaw, as seen which will exceed 200 meters in height.
