(1979) AMU Zoology B.Sc. (Hon) (1977) AMU Zoology · Doctorate of Science (Highest & Rare Academic Distinction) Subject of Specialization 1). Nematology; 2) Behaviour of Nematodes and 3) Biological control of Plant Parasitic Nematodes i) Title of D.Sc thesis : Studies on the behaviour of nematodes ii) Title of Ph.D Thesis : Observations on the behaviour of nematodes 2 Research Experience : Twenty Two years (since 1-2-1980) My research interest revolves around applied aspects of nematodes such as biological control and behaviour of nematodes. In 1980 when I started research very little was known about predatory nematodes, their behaviour and their role as nematode bio-control agents India and abroad. During a span of 21 years I have authored one book, contributed several chapters to books and published 92 research papers. Most of these publications are based on original research conducted on various aspects of predatory nematode’s behaviour such as predatory behaviour, prey searching and feeding behaviour, prey selection behaviour, numerical analysis and mathematical formulae to quantify strike rate of predatory nematodes, degree of resistance and susceptibility of plant parasitic nematode to predation, food and feeding habits of predatory nematodes, prey searching, attraction and aggregation behaviour, role of kairomones in prey searching behaviour, biological control potentials of predatory nematodes, host searching, attraction and aggregation behaviour of entomopathogenic nematodes etc. Besides, studies were also conducted on, predatory habits of mites and protozoans, histochemical localization of enzymes involve in carbohydrate metabolism, generic diversity and community analysis of predatory nematodes etc. The work done on predatory nematodes is widely acclaimed, which has been cited widely in various journals and books by national and international scientists. I have held several research collaboration and worked in some of the leading Laboratories of the world. Worked for about one year with Prof. Eizo Kondo, in the Department of Applied Biological Sciences, Saga University, Saga, Japan as a Visiting Fellow of the Japanese Society for Promotion of Science. During this period I had worked on the role of kairomones in host searching, attraction and aggregation behaviour of entomopathogenic nematodes. I had also worked with Prof. Randy Gaugler in the Department of Entomology, Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA for about four months as a visiting scientist. We had worked on the feeding, attraction, and aggregation behaviour of predatory nematodes and culture techniques for predatory nematodes. Presently I am working as a visiting Scholar with Prof. Wenju Liang in the Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, China for four months. We are working on community structure of nematodes and nematode-bacterial interactions in various agroecosystems. Besides, I have interacted with many other leading nematologists in various parts of the world such as Sweden, England, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Hongkong, Taiwan, Egypt, USA, Japan, China etc. and have good experience of working with them for short and long durations. Teaching Experience : Sixteen Years i) Teaching Behaviour and Ecology of nematodes, Evolution, Bio Statistics and Vertebrate Zoology to Graduate and Post Graduate Course in Zoology since l986. My responsibilities as Warden and Provost of Student’s hostel was to look after all administrative work of the Hall of residence, including supervision of students, Office staff, finances, student welfare and development of extra curricular activities for resident students. I have also the administrative experience of Superintendent of Examination and Admissions of the Faculty of Life Sciences. My main duties as Superintendent of examination were to supervise smooth conduct of examination, maintain secrecy and preparation of results. As superintendent of Admissions I had to supervise the process of admission application forms for the under graduate and post graduate classes according to eligibility and finalize the list of admissions of my faculty (i.e., Faculty of Life Sciences).
