May he give Pastoral Year Seminarian us the courage! Raymond Pendleton This Feast of the Epiphany is a celebration of the Three Wise Men and the daring journey they traveled to follow the star. It led them over rough territory, which eventually Pastoral Associate Stacy Millsap culminated in their discovery of the child Jesus. Their encounter with Jesus changed them and on their return home, they avoided Herod and rejoiced in what they had come to recognize Permanent in the incarnation of Christ. It is an tradition dating back to the 16h century revolving around the image of the Child Jesus which was given as a gift by Magellan, the explorer, to Queen Juana of Cebu on the occasion of her baptism. The image of the Santo Nino is considered to be miraculous as it was preserved from destruction by a fire that destroyed the hut in which it was found. A great basilica houses the image in the city of Cebu. Please pray for the Filipino Community during this important devotion.

U.S. Approve Certain COVID-19 Vaccines The U.S. Bishop’s Conference just released a statement regarding the morality of accepting vaccines for COVID-19. In summary, they find that “In view of the gravity of the current pandemic, and because of the lack of availability of alternative vaccines”, it is morally permissible to accept the new COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, despite their very remote connection to morally compromised cell lines”. The not-yet released vaccine from AstraZeneca, however, “is morally compromised in that it directly used a cell line from an aborted infant in its design, development, and production.” Therefore, the AstraZeneca vaccine should be avoided if there are alternatives available. Please take this into consideration with regard to receiving vaccines for COVID-19. If you would like more information, we can have it available for those who wish. 3 Mass Intentions Saturday, January 2nd 8:15AM † Gilbert Schanen by Nancy Schanen Please Pray for our Sick & Shut-Ins: 5:30PM † Ethel Dulak by Ken & Liz Morgan Luis Alvarado, Kirk Anderson, Sugar Arras, Abby Arredondo, Sunday, January 3rd Edna Arredondo, Missy O’Rourke Atkinson, Tamra Bacon, 8:00AM † Doak & Josephine Russell & Randy Havel by D.
