L’analyse de ce phénomène pour plus de cinq millénaires nous a permis d’observer autant les éléments de continuité, visibles surtout au niveau des mentalités, que ceux de discontinuité, visibles dans les formes concrètes de manifestation, reflétés dans la manière de traiter les défunts, mais aussi le mobilier ou les offrandes déposées auprès d’eux. On a présenté des communications portant sur ce phénomène depuis le néolithique, les âges du bronze et du fer, l’antiquité classique et jusqu’au Moyen Âge ancien. Les auteurs ont fait référence à une aire géographique très vaste, depuis Antikithira dans la Méditerranée, au sud, jusqu’au centre de la Pologne, au nord et la zone du Don, à l’est, jusqu’aux Carpates Occidentales, à l’ouest. Au- delà de certaines « constantes », saisissables dans les mentalités, les manières concrètes de comportement des communautés humaines avec les défunts sont très intéressantes, explicables d’ailleurs si l’on tient compte qu’il s’agissait des communautés se trouvant à l’aube de la civilisation, ensuite le monde gréco-romain et les peuples « barbares » contemporains (Thraces, Celtes, Scythes, Germains), arrivant jusqu’aux peuples chrétiens du Moyen Âge ancien. Les discussions portées après la présentation des communications ont eu, très souvent, des résultats fructueux, car on y a nuancé les problèmes abordés. Une trentaine de chercheurs de Roumanie, Bulgarie, Grèce, République Tchèque et Pologne y ont soutenu des communications ; nous sommes désolés que, pour des raisons objectives, les archéologues de la République de Moldavie et d’Ukraine n’aient pas pu prendre part, mais ils ont envoyé leurs travaux afin d’être publiés. Il est important que ces communications soient à la disposition de tous ceux qui s’intéressent à ce phénomène, car on les publiera en un volume et présentera sur Internet. Bien que ce soit la première fois où ce colloque n’a pas lieu dans la zone du Bas Danube, le choix de la ville de Sibiu s’est avéré heureux, et nous disons cela pour plusieurs raisons. Toutes les institutions et les personnes de cette merveilleuse ville, impliquées dans l’organisation, méritent nos sincères félicitations et remerciements. Parmi eux, nous devons remercier en particulier le professeur Sabin Adrian Luca qui a eu un rôle essentiel dans la réussite du colloque et dans la publication des travaux. La visite faite dans le célèbre Musée Brukenthal, ainsi que l’excursion documentaire, qui a permis la connaissance du paysage et de monuments importants dans le voisinage de Sibiu, ont heureusement complété ce colloque. Les hôtes ont fait la promesse d’organiser aussi le futur colloque, en 2007, l’année où la ville de Sibiu sera la capitale culturelle d’Europe. À signaler la fréquence des trois derniers colloques d’archéologie funéraire, à Brăila (2003), Buzău (2004) et Sibiu (2005). Oktober 2005, veranstaltete unseres Forschungszentrum (das Institut zur Erforschung und Verwertung der siebenbürgischen Kulturerbe in europäischen Kontext) das 7. Internationale Kolloquium für Grabarchäologie "Die Gesellschaft der Lebendigen, die Gemeinschaft der Toten – aus der Jungsteinzeit bis in der christlichen Ära". Es war, nämlich, das dritte Treffen zu dieser Thema, das in Rumänien, unter der Schirmherrschaft der 30. UISPP- Kommision (Bestattungsritus und -Ritual), stattfand.

Nelu ZUGRAVU, Am citit în ultimul număr al Classica et Christiana (9/2, 2014, pp. 537-540) materialul semnat de dl Sorin Nemeti ("Banatul în context ptolemaic. 1. Ziri- dava"). În virtutea dreptului la replică, vă rog frumos să publicaţi în următorul număr al Classica et Christiana (10/2015) textul pe care vi-l trimit cu această ocazie (în atașament există o variantă WORD 2010 și una PDF; ambele respectă paginaţia și normele de publicare ale Classica et Christiana; dacă trebuiește o altă formatare vă rog frumos să-mi specificaţi care să fie aceasta). De asemenea, vă rog frumos să-mi comunicaţi în cel mai scurt timp, în scris, dacă veţi da curs solicitării mele. Dacă nu doriţi să daţi curs cerinţei mele, vă rog frumos să-mi menţionaţi în scris motivul/motivele refuzului. Vă mulţumesc pentru atenţie, Sorin FORŢIU ... Fără vreun feed-back, în data de 19.02.2015 (13oo), am purtat o conver- saţie telefonică, de circa șapte minute, cu dl Nelu ZUGRAVU, director responsabil/redactor-șef al revistei Classica et Christiana, care mi-a comunicat că nu este obligat să-mi confirme nici măcar primirea drep- tului meu la replică ... și nici să-mi spună dacă îl publică sau nu ... și dacă, într-un final, se hotărește să-l publice, nici când va fi publicat ... toate acestea pentru ca nicio revistă din lume nu comunică (sic!) auto- rului astfel de informaţii ..

Nem beszéltem még az önhivatkozásokról, ami szintén gyakori, mert így is előreléphet valaki, mert megnőtt a hivatkozási indexe. Azzal is növelni lehet a hivatkozási indexet, ha valaki különösen nagy marhaságot ír. Akkor szinte megkerülhetetlen, hogy hivatkozzanak rá. Olyan nagy butaságot kell írni, amilyet még senki! Raţiu Cuptoarele de ars ceramica din nordul şi nord–vestul Transilvaniei în secolele II–IV p. Chr. În cadrul acestei lucrări am încercat să aducem în discuţie cuptoarele de ars ceramica din secolele II–IV p. Chr. din zona limitrofă Imperiului Roman de la nordul şi nord–vestul provinciei Dacia. Cuptoarele pentru ars ceramica reprezintă instalaţia centrală a unui atelier de olar, indiferent de perioada la care facem referire sau de populaţia care producea ceramica. Analogii pentru cuptoarele din nord–vestul Transilvaniei se găsesc în toate regiunile Daciei, inclusiv la sud de Carpaţi. Şi în celelalte zone locuite de comunităţi de daci liberi de la est de provincia Dacia sau din Muntenia se întâlnesc o mulţime de analogii pentru cuptoarele de ars ceramică. În nord–vestul Transilvaniei au fost descoperite 24 de cuptoare de ars ceramică, dintre care, din nefericire, doar 14 au fost publicate, în timp ce săpăturile de la Lazuri aşteaptă de aproape trei decenii publicarea. Aceste cuptoare se împart, la rândul lor, în trei tipuri diferite, după modul în care au fost construite, tipuri de cuptoare întâlnite şi în alte regiuni de pe teritoriul României, atât în Imperiu cât şi în Barbaricum. În concluzie se poate afirma faptul că atât apropierea geografică, cât şi cea etnico–culturală a celor două populaţii, daco–romană în interiorul graniţelor provinciei Dacia şi barbară în zonele limitrofe acesteia, au generat un intens schimb, nu numai de mărfuri, dar şi de tehnici sau procedee de producere ale acestora.

Who informs the public about their ‘national’ past? The case of Romania Cat˘ alin˘ Nicolae Popa∗ Abstract This paper addresses the role of archaeologists in informing the public about a fundamental component of contemporary Romanian identity: the Dacian heritage. I start by exploring how the Dacians and Romanians came to be connected, a process that resulted from a combination of nationalistic zeal on behalf of archaeologists and the nationalist propaganda of the Ceau¸sescu regime during the 1970s and 1980s. I then move to the present-day situation, where I argue that archaeologists have reduced themselves to having a minor role in the public sphere, while discussions about the Dacians are dominated by two main players: pseudoarchaeologists and re-enactors. This state of affairs delegitimizes Romanian archaeology and places self-declared specialists and enthusiasts in the position of experts. Some of the Dacian narratives produced in this environment are infused with strong nationalist messages and have the potential to fuel extreme right-wing and even xenophobic movements. Consequently, in the final part of the paper, I recommend that Romanian archaeologists should challenge the representations and interpretations of pseudoarchaeologists and re-enactors. Moreover, academics should make it a priority to re-engage with the public and disseminate their work to a broad audience in a convincing manner.

An editorial comment Joanna Brück and Liv Nilsson Stutz The European Association of Archaeologists has long fostered critical analysis of the relationship between archaeology and politics, particularly the politics of national, regional and supra-regional identities. Although the role of nationalism in the birth of archaeology as a discipline is well recognized, the events of the past few years – from the referendum on Scottish independence in 2014, to the movement for secession in eastern Ukraine, and the rise of explicitly nationalist political movements across the continent – suggest that the (re)formulation of national identities is likely to continue to have major implications both for our interpretation of the past and for the practice of archaeology in the present. In light of this, the Archaeological dialogues editorial board organized a round table at the EAA meeting in Glasgow in September 2015 to explore the extent to which institutional, legislative and funding structures as well as political and cultural imperatives continue to bind our discipline into the construction of nationalist narratives, and this more or less in spite of long-standing critical debates within the discipline itself that for decades have problematized the relationship. Are we caught in a ‘can’t-live-with-and-can’t-live-without’ situation? While explicitly nationalist archaeologies have become almost obsolete in the European academies, we rarely contemplate the impact of nationalism on funding or the definition and protection of cultural heritage, for example.
