First up is the reissue of the Rolling Stones album Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!. What many consider the best live rock concert album of all time is now available from Abcko in a four-disc box set. Along with the original album there is a disc of five previously unreleased live performances and a DVD of those performances. There is a also a bonus CD of five live tracks from B.B. King and seven from Ike & Tina Turner, who were the opening acts on the tour. There is also a beautiful hardcover book with an essay by Russell, his photographs, fans’ notes and expanded liner notes, along with a lobby card-sized reproduction of the tour poster. Russell’s new book, Let It Bleed (Springboard), is now finally out and it’s a stunning visual look back on the infamous tour and the watershed Altamont concert. Russell doesn’t just provide his historic photos (which would be sufficient), but, like in his previous Dear Mr. Fantasy book, he serves as an insightful eyewitness of the greatest rock tour in history and rock music’s 60’s live Waterloo.

Today Music Production is something anyone can do, armed with a cellphone and a decent internet connection. Sure you’ll soon want a microphone; and then another mic, and then another mic. Speakers help of course, and pro software gives you the sort of power that only major recording studios like Capitol and Abbey Road had back in the day. Speaking of which, back in the day when we were trying to carve out our careers, there weren’t any alternatives to a recording studio. And there weren’t any schools you could go to to learn about recording. Alan got a job as an assistant engineer at Abbey Road and Julian signed with Charisma Records as a writer and keyboard player. Gardner 1 Edgar Allan Poe and Alan Parsons: All That We See or Seem is Nevermore Kimball Gardner Since their beginnings in the mind of a brilliant, misunderstood man, the works of Edgar Allan Poe have captured the imaginations and fears of audiences throughout the world. After his death, when his popularity began to grow, Poe’s works became more widely read and studied by both scholars and authors. As technology began to advance in the twentieth century, his works began to be adapted into short films and later, feature-length films. And, in the late twentieth century, a young progressive rock group named the Alan Parsons Project offered their adaptation of several of Poe’s works. In this paper, I will discuss their work on “A Dream within a Dream” and “The Raven,” from their album Tales of Mystery and Imagination—Edgar Allan Poe and how their adaptation enhances Poe’s effect.

The Alan Parsons Project – The Turn Of A Friendly Card (Deluxe Anniversary Edition) (02:13:14, 2CD, Arista/Legacy/Sony Music, 1980/2015) Im November 1980 erschien mit „The Turn Of A Friendly Card“ (im Folgenden „TTOAFC“) das fünfte Album von The Alan Parsons Project (TAPP). Nachdem „Eve“ zwar sehr erfolgreich, aber auch sehr glattgebügelt ausgefallen war, näherte man sich mit „TTOAFC“ den Standards der ersten drei Alben wieder leicht an, wobei die Schublade Progressive Rock trotzdem unpassend erscheint. Bei Fans des Projects hat das Album allerdings einen recht hohen Stellenwert. Zum 35. Jubläum erscheint nun eine Deluxe Edition. Da der Inhalt des Originals hinlänglich bekannt und vielfach rezensiert ist (alle Alben im Quickie-Durchlauf z.B. hier), richtet sich der Blick im Folgenden auf das Bonusmaterial und das Für und Wider einer Neuanschaffung. Cover und Beiheft suggerieren zwar, dass es sich hier um brandneue Remasters auf dem aktuellen Stand der Technik handelt, aber CD1 des Doppelpacks ist identisch mit der bereits 2008 erschienen Expanded Edition von „TTOAFC“. Außer den Titeln des Originalalbums befinden sich sieben zusätzliche Stücke auf dem Silberling. Keiner davon bietet allerdings wirklichen Mehrwert, da es sich um kurze Demo-Schnipsel, Arbeitsversionen und Backing Tracks bereits vorhandener Songs handelt. Mitunter singt Eric Woolfson sogenannte Guide Vocals, die unter anderem als Arbeitsvorlage für die engagierten Sänger dienten. Dieses Material dürfte also in erster Linie „Die hard“-Fans ansprechen. Bislang unveröffentlicht ist der Inhalt von CD2. Im Einzelnen sind das zunächst acht Stücke unter der Überschrift „Eric’s Songwriting Diary“. Dahinter verbergen sich originale Kassettenaufnahmen von Eric Woolfson, mit denen er seine Kompositionsideen dokumentierte.

(WEAA) appeal from an order of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida granting Alan Parsons’s and Appertaining LLC’s motion for a preliminary injunction in this trademark infringement suit.1 Parsons sued Regna for federal and common law trademark infringement and moved for a preliminary injunction to prevent Regna from using certain marks related to The Alan Parsons Project, a musical group he co-founded.2 The district court granted Parsons’s motion and preliminarily enjoined Regna from using the marks. Regna argues that the district court abused its discretion in granting Parsons’s motion because: (1) it lacked subject-matter jurisdiction over Parsons’s claims, (2) Parsons failed to establish statutory standing, and (3) Regna was entitled to a nominative fair use defense.
