Field Linguistics 2. General Linguistics Brief Bio-data: Amitabh Vikram Dwivedi is Assistant Professor of Linguistics at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, India. His research interests include language documentation, writing descriptive grammars, and the preservation of rare and endangered languages in South Asia. He has contributed papers to many Science Citation Index/SCOPUS journals, and research articles to Knowledge Resources chiefly EBSCO and to encyclopedias, chiefly with Sage, Rowman & Littlefield, Springer and ABC-CLIO Publications. His most recent books are A Grammar of Hadoti (Lincom Europa: Munich, 2012), A Grammar of Bhadarwahi (Lincom Europa: Munich, 2013), and a poetry collection titled Chinaar-kaa- Sukhaa-Pattaa (2015) in Hindi. As a poet, he has published more than 100 poems in different anthologies, journals and magazines worldwide.     BHADARWAHI: A TYPOLOGICAL SKETCH Amitabh Vikram DWIVEDI Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, India [email protected] Abstract This paper is a summary of some phonological and morphosyntactice features of the Bhadarwahi language of Indo-Aryan family. Bhadarwahi is a lesser known and less documented language spoken in district of Doda of Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir State in India. Typologically it is a subject dominant language with an SOV word order (SV if without object) and its verb agrees with a noun phrase which is not followed by an overt post-position. These noun phrases can move freely in the sentence without changing the meaning of the sentence. The indirect object generally precedes the direct object. Aspiration, like any other Indo-Aryan languages, is a prominent feature of Bhadarwahi. Nasalization is a distinctive feature, and vowel and consonant contrasts are commonly observed. Infinitive and participle forms are formed by suffixation while infixation is also found in causative formation. Tense is carried by auxiliary and aspect and mood is marked by the main verb. Keywords: Indo-Aryan; less documented; SOV; aspiration; infixation Povzetek Članek je nekakšen daljši povzetek fonoloških in morfosintaktičnih značilnosti jezika badarvahi, enega izmed članov indo-arijske jezikovne družine. Badarvahi je manj poznan in slabo dokumentiran jezik z območja Doda v regiji Jammu v Kašmirju. Tipološko je zanj značilen dominanten osebek in besedni red: osebek, predmet, povedek. Glagoli se povečini ujemajo s samostalniškimi frazami, ki lahko v stavku zavzemajo katerikoli položaj ne da bi spremenile pomen stavka. Nadaljna značilnost jezika badarvahi je tudi to, da indirektni predmeti ponavadi stojijo pred direktnimi predmeti.

Through creative projects and writing assignments, students will identify and analyze Novels- Picture Bride by Yoshiko Uchida, Night by Elie Weisel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Contemporary Novels each novel’s themes and also compare and contrast the novels’ treatment of common themes. He died December 23, 2009.” Larry Thomas: “Thanks for sharing “ Clara Sue Griffis Arnsdorff: That was really interesting---sure hit home with me---we can't forget. As a military wife I remember many who didn’t return from that conflict. When we lived in Calif my husband flew transport planes into RVN and often returned with coffins loaded in the plane. We left Calif for Hawaii where his squadron flew 24 hour command post support and frequently flew to RVN to pick up General Westmoreland for a conference on Oahu. Those were early stages of the war. In 1972 he went unaccompanied to Taiwan. They flew cargo into RVN and dropped paratroopers and supplies. I often wonder how many of those boys are listed on that wall. I was in Waco during that time, and every time a C130 was shot down I waited for a notification. Fortunately none came. Lots of bullets had to be removed from those transports. I know many other WHS grads have stories of these turbulent times, and most are more relevant than mine.

Many of us were already acquainted from previous Zegrahm trips, and Expedition Leader Nadia Eckhardt soon began introductions and a briefing. The next morning, our flight path followed the fragile low-lying chain of the Florida Keys before making the 90-mile crossing to land in Havana. Staff beckoned us to our buses, where local guides Abel Valdes and David Camps greeted us warmly. Once underway, they showed themselves to be both personable and knowledgeable, as well as forthcoming about their own histories and opinions, and the realities, dilemmas, and challenges that face Cuba. We stopped for a photo-op at the Plaza de la Revolucion, once the open- air gathering place for tens of thousands of Fidel Castro’s supporters held captivated by his masterful oratory. But our group, the majority of whom were Americans “of a certain age,” were spellbound instead by a gleaming array of 1950’s Detroit cars lined up adjacent to our parked buses. In Old Havana, Sloppy Joe’s supplied us with the first of many “welcome mojitos” and hearty lunches, before we crossed the street to a fleet of gorgeous convertibles drawn up to the curb ready to whisk us on a tour.
