Model Aircraft Flying

1. Model aircraft flying is a popular activity that may be conducted at any suitable location in Hong Kong. Model aircraft activities are normally carried out during weekends and public holidays between 0900 – 1900 (local).

2. Model aircraft flying activities (model aeroplanes and helicopters) are regularly organised at the following locations :

a) Tai Tong, (UTM Grid JK955820), up to a height of 350 ft AGL; b) Aerodrome, , up to a height of 350 ft AGL; c) Kai Tak Disused Aerodrome, Kowloon City, up to a height of 350 ft AGL; d) Tseung Kwan O Reclamation, up to a height of 200 ft AGL.

3. There are also a number of other locations where model aeroplanes and helicopter flying may be conducted and there are several hillside areas where model gliders may be launched, these include :

a) Clearwater Bay Peninsula area; b) Kowloon Peak and Tates Cairn areas; c) Yuen Long area; d) Ma On Shan area; e) Jubilee Reservoir area; f) Shek O Country Park area.

4. It is emphasised that the list of locations in paras. 2 and 3 are not comprehensive and model aircraft flying may take place anywhere in the Territory during daylight hours.

5. Model aircraft flying should not present a serious hazard to normal aircraft operations, however pilots may be momentarily distracted by the sudden appearance of model aircraft. Pilots are advised to maintain a good look-out when operating in any of the above areas.

6. AIP Supplement C02/02, NOTAMs C0064/04 and C0142/04 are hereby superseded.
