Overnight in Amman. page 1/9 Day 2Private visit to Ajlum, Jerash, Um Qais This morning your private guide will take you to visit the village of Ajlum to visit the towering Arab built castle of Ajlun Castle , which was never defeated by the European Crusaders, and has a wonderful maze of vaulted ceilings, secret passages and fairy-tale towers and battlements. A local expert will take you around Jerash, one of the best-preserved provincial Roman towns in the world. You will find yourself caught up in his enthusiasm and knowledge as he takes you on this private tour. Jerash was hidden in the sands for centuries and has been lovingly excavated over the last 70 years. It is sometimes called the Pompeii of the East, or Jewel of the North, and boasts a wonderful array of hilltop temples, theatres, plazas, baths, fountains and city walls. Early afternoon explore Um Qais, a city rich with basalt ruins including a mausoleum, colonnaded main street, basilica, theatre and all on a splendid hilltop overlooking the Jordan Valley, Golan Heights and Lake Tiberius (the Sea of Galilee). Beit Sitti offers a cook and dine experience where you come and learn how to prepare a traditional Arabic meal with the help of a Hajjeh, and then get to eat the food that you prepared, in their grandmothers house found in one of Ammans oldest neighborhoods, Jabal al weibdeh. Book your session for either breakfast, lunch, or dinner and come learn how to prepare a four course arabic meal using seasonal vegetables picked by the local women. Afterwards your private driver will transfer you south to Petra via the 2000-yr old highway – the Kings Highway stopping to visit Mukawer, where St. John the Baptist was incacerated after the fateful dance of Salome. Your private guide will also show you Shoback Castle, one of the Crusader fortresses, and Beida (Little Petra), a place for trading caravans to stop en route between south Arabia and the Mediterranean. DAY 4Private Petra Tour After breakfast your private Petra tour starts on horseback, followed by a walk through the Siq, a long narrow fissure between two overhanging cliffs. (You can opt out of the horseback tour if preferred) Your private Petra tour will gradually unfold the mysteries of the Red Rose city with its spectacular Treasury, Royal Tombs, burial chambers and high places of sacrifice. Afterwards right at the exit to Petra we would recommend a stop at the oldest Cave Bar in the world. After morning at leisure in Petra to explore further if you wish continue your Jordan Holiday with a private transfer south to the enchanting desert of Wadi Rum, Jordan’s largest desert and one of the most spectacular desert landscapes in the world. Wadi Rum is home to several Bedouin tribes who live in scattered camps throughout the area, and you may come across them as you spend 3 hours being privately driven in a 4WD vehicle through the Wadi prior to enjoying a glass of traditional Bedouin tea at sunset. Tonight you will stay in a desert camp in Wadi Rum. This camp will be simple and clean and the unusual Martian dome accommodation is a great way to experience the desert in comfort. A la Carte Optional Extras Upgrade to The Ultimate Luxurious Discovery Bedu Camp At Discovery Bedu luxurious accommodation awaits to give you a very special experience. Situated at a particularly scenic viewpoint in Wadi Rum Discovery Bedu camp is run by local Bedouins and offers six tented suites. All have a private deck and en-suite bathrooms . The tents are positioned to allow beautiful views at sunset as the rays disappear over the copper coloured sand before the stars come out against the ink black night. The handmade central tent is made from the hair of goat with colourful weavings and serves as a dinner venue. The tent has low Bedouin style seating lifted on a wooden surface. Alternatively al fresco dining under the stars can also be arranged. Breakfast is served on a sandstone hill next to the camp overlooking the stunning landscape and mountains. Upgrade Cost per person: From £580 (Dinner included) page 5/9 DAY 6Private visit to Kerak Castle, Wadi Mujib, Madaba, Mt Nebo and private transfer to the Dead Sea After breakfast your private guide will transfer you to visit Kerak Crusader castle, Wadi Mujib with its stunning landscape and views, and Madaba; the city of Mosaics with the Greek Orthodox church of St. George where the famous 6th century Byzantine mosaic map of the holy sites in the biblical world is found. You will also visit Mt. Nebo one of the most revered holy sites in Jordan and known as the burial place of Moses, with a spectacular view of the holy land.
