Tacit knowledge acquired through hand skills, making, utilising equipment and working with processes is fundamental to developing understanding. Although practical learning is valued, the teaching of creative and making subjects is under threat in formal education. Within the fashion and textile industries there are skills shortages. Heritage crafts risk being lost as digital technologies and automation impact upon future generations. The Association of Fashion & Textile Courses (FTC) conference Futurescan 4: Valuing Practice, provides an international forum for the dissemination of research, creative practice and pedagogy surrounding fashion and textiles. Maryvale Director to speak at Leeds Trinity University College conference on New Evangelisation Posted on April 29, 2012 by Anthony Athanasius Mgr. Paul Watson, Director of Maryvale Higher Institute of Religious Sciences, is to speak at the international conference to be held at Leeds Trinity University College, ‘Vatican II 50 years on: The New Evangelisation’, 26-29 June 2012. ‘The fiftieth anniversary of the beginning of the Second Vatican Council provides a unique opportunity to revisit that seminal event which had such a profound impact on the life of the Catholic Church and its mission. In particular, the Council began an engagement with the modern and secularized world through a renewed proclamation of the Gospel. Blessed John Paul II described this as the ‘new evangelization’, and in 2010, Pope Benedict XVI confirmed this priority by creating the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization.’ ‘In order to reflect on the impact of Council and deepen understanding of the New Evangelization, Leeds Trinity University College is hosting an international Catholic theological conference on 26-29 June 2012 in the city of Leeds, UK. It is being organised by Leeds Trinity in conjunction with the Centre for Catholic Studies at Durham University. Extremely small numbers of undergraduate students studying at levels other than first degree (30 entrants in 2017/18) do not allow for meaningful analysis segregated by level of study. Numbers of part-time undergraduate students are also extremely small in number (20 entrants in 2017/18), hence applying focus to the analysis of full-time students from the Access and Participation Plan Dataset. 1.1 Higher education participation, household income, or socioeconomic status Access Source: OfS Access and Participation Plan Dataset The University has made progress in recruiting an increased proportion of students from the most socio- economically deprived areas (IMD) highlighted by the growth in entrants from IMDQ1, which is the largest population of IMD quintiles for the last four years. There has been some decline in access from the lowest participation areas (POLAR Q1) most recently. Examining access from the lowest participation areas specifically for 18-year-old entrants, the University has largely, through the period, exceeded the levels of access seen in the wider UK population. The performance in the most recent reported year (2017/18) shows a downturn in this trend, this is however impacted by a significant decrease in undergraduate entrants in absolute terms which has impacted on the stability of performance by participation areas. Internal data for 2018/19 entry indicates improved performance in the lowest participation areas with overall recruitment numbers returning to more typical levels.
