DAY ONE: Saturday, June 21, 2014 – SAN FRANCISCO DEPARTURE (meals/movies en route) ~11.00am Arrive at San Francisco International Airport and meet your World Projects Tour Manager who will assist with check-in - move through security to your departure gate. Afternoon Lunch on own at the airport. 1.05pm Depart San Francisco for Miami on American Airlines flight AA442. 9.35pm Arrive in to Miami and transfer to your next departure gate. 11.10pm Depart Miami for Montevideo on American Airlines flight 989. Overnight en route. DAY TWO: Sunday, June 22, 2014 - Arrive MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY (D) 9.10am Arrive in to Montevideo. Proceed with immigration and customs formalities. Meet your local Tour Managers and board the coaches. Montevideo, a city of 1.4 million people and the capital of Uruguay, is a much smaller version of Buenos Aires and has its own distinct character. A slower pace of life dominates the city. Montevideo shares many cultural traditions with Buenos Aires such as speaking the same “Rioplatense” Spanish, enjoying similar cuisine, and sharing a common musical legacy derived from the Tango and “música folklore”. Transfer to a local 3-star hotel for check in and a chance to freshen up after your flight (TBC - subject to room availability). Afternoon Lunch on your own in Montevideo. After lunch, your local Tour Manager will provide an Orientation your of the area surrounding the hotel. Evening Enjoy a Welcome Dinner as a group at a local restaurant. After dinner, return to the hotel for an early night after your long journey. DAY THREE: Monday, June 23, 2014 – MONTEVIDEO (B,D) – Performance #1 Morning Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Following breakfast, board the coaches and depart on a Guided City Tour of Montevideo. View the Ciudad Vieja ("Old City" founded in colonial times) and the Metropolitan Cathedral, Plaza Independencia, the square in the heart of the city, features a lovely plaza and monument to General Artígas (Uruguay's George Washington) and is overlooked by Palacio Salvo (Uruguay's first skyscraper). Continue on to Avenida 18 de Julio, the city's main thoroughfare and shopping street. Afternoon Lunch on your own in Montevideo followed by some time to enjoy the Punta Carretas Shopping Center where you can buy Uruguayan handicrafts and leather goods. Mid-afternoon return to the hotel to collect your performance attire. Depart for this evening’s performance venue – possibly Universidad Catolica (TBC – or similar). Upon arrival, rehearse in the venue. Non-Performers: Enjoy a Guided Tour of Teatro Solis, Uruguay’s oldest theatre dating back to 1856 which can be regarded as the cultural heart of the city. Evening Dinner as a group nearby. Afterwards, return to the venue to prepare. Performance possibly with the university choir at Universidad Catolica (TBC – or similar). Following the concert, pack up and return to the hotel. DAY FOUR: Tuesday, June 24, 2014 – MONTEVIDEO → SANTA FE (B,D) Morning Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Check out of the hotel, load the coaches and depart for the Montevideo port passenger terminal for your Burquebus cruise to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. Afternoon Arrive in to Buenos Aires and enjoy lunch on your own. Following lunch, board your coaches and begin your journey to Santa Fe (approx. 3.5 hour drive). Arrive in to Santa Fe and check in to a local hotel (TBC). Santa Fe was originally founded by Captain Juan de Garay in the nearby site of Cayastá in 1573. The site is today a historical park containing the grave of Hernandarias, the first American-born governor in South America. The city became the provincial capital in 1814, when the territory of the province of Santa Fe was separated from the province of Buenos Aires by the National Constituent Assembly, held in the city in 1853. Santa Fe is the commercial and transportation center for a rich agricultural area that produces grain, vegetable oils, and meats. After settling in to your hotel, enjoy some time to explore the center of the city in chaperone groups. Evening Dinner as a group in Santa Fe and this evening is free. DAY FIVE: Wednesday, June 25, 2014 – SANTA FE (B,D) – Performance #2 Morning Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Following breakfast, depart on a sightseeing tour of the city which will take in all of its historic and important sights. Afternoon Lunch on your own in Santa Fe. This afternoon, possibly interact with some local choir members or school children (TBC). Mid-afternoon, transfer to a venue in Santa Fe to setup for your concert. Rehearsal/sound check at the venue. This may also be an opportunity to rehearse a joint piece with a local choir (TBC). Non-Performers: Enjoy a visit to the ‘Granja La Esmeralda’ – an ‘experimental zoo’ which has a wild and woodsy feel to it which makes it stand out to most other zoos. Provincial native fauna is mainly represented, including toucans, pumas, jaguars and a giant anteater. Many of the animals have been rescued after experiencing problems in the wild Evening Dinner as a group at a local restaurant. Performance for the choir at a venue in Santa Fe – possibly in conjunction with Estudio Coral Meridies directed by Virginia Bono (TBC – subject to availability). Following the concert, possibly enjoy some social time with your exchange choir. Afterwards, say goodbye and return to the hotel. DAY SIX: Thursday, June 26, 2014 – SANTA FE → ROSARIO → BUENOS AIRES (B,D) Morning Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Check out of the hotel, load the coaches and begin your journey to Buenos Aires (full day bus ride). Afternoon En route, stop in Rosario for lunch on your own and some time to explore the city center in chaperone groups. With a population of approximately 1 million people, Rosario is tied with Córdoba for the title of Argentina’s second-largest city. A favored destination of European immigrants in the 19th and 20th Centuries, Buenos Aires often seems more European than South American. Home of the Tango and Evita, Buenos Aires is Argentina’s political, economic and culture capitol. Upon arrival in to Buenos Aires, transfer and check in to a local 3-star hotel. Free time to settle in. Evening Dinner as a group in Buenos Aires at a typical Argentine barbecue restaurant. After dinner, return to the hotel. DAY SEVEN: Friday, June 27, 2014 – BUENOS AIRES (B,L,D) – Performance #3 Morning Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Depart on a day trip to Estancia Santa Susana, an authentic Argentine ‘estancia’ (cattle ranch). Experience the life of the ‘gauchos’ (cowboys) through roping demonstrations, rides on horse-driven carts, plus folklore dancing and singing. Afternoon Lunch as a group at the ranch. Following lunch, present an informal performance at the Estancia (TBC). Afterwards, return to Buenos Aires and enjoy some time to explore Avenida Santa Fé - Buenos Aires' premier shopping street with 35 blocks of Boutiques and Shopping Gallerias with the latest European fashions at reasonable prices. Evening Dinner as a group in Buenos Aires. This evening, possibly attend a concert or other event taking place in Buenos Aires (TBC – additional cost) DAY EIGHT: Saturday, June 28, 2014 - BUENOS AIRES (B,D) – Workshop / Performance #4 Morning Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Buenos Aires. This tour will give you an overview of Buenos Aires’ history and culture as seen through its neighborhoods and historical landmarks. Afternoon Lunch on own along Buenos Aires’ pedestrian-only Calle Florida. Upon arrival, rehearse in the venue. Following your rehearsal, enjoy a workshop with a local choir clinician – possibly Virginia Bono, director of Estudio Coral Meridies from Santa Fe (TBC). Non-Performers: Visit La Recoleta Cemetery - the final resting place of the good, the bad and the beautiful people of Argentina's past. When you find the crowd, you have found Evita's ghostly flower- strewn monument. Evening Dinner as a group nearby – possibly involving choir members participating in this evening’s mini-festival concert. Afterwards, return to the venue. Performance as part of a ‘mini festival’ involving other local choirs from the Buenos Aires area (TBC). Following the concert, possibly enjoy some social time with the local choir members.
