Immigration regulations

Before your arrival Optional: To apply for Russian visa, please: 1. Find your local Russian Consulate using the interactive map with the list of consulates “Russia in international relations” http://www.mid.ru/en/main_en. 2. Contact the chosen consulate.

Please be informed that passport must be valid for a minimum six months after the visa expiry date and have at least one blank two-page spread to paste the visa, arrival, and departure stamps in it.

Border and passport control Please receive a migration card at Passport Control when entering Russia and return it when you are leaving the country. If the card is lost, immediately apply to the Migration Authorities to receive a new migration card. You can do it with the help of the HSE Visa and Registration Centre.

Registration Please note that every foreign national passport holder must be registered upon arrival to Russia. If you’re staying for more than seven business days you have to apply for registration. Most major hotels will do this automatically. Please contact reception for this service.

If you visit several cities in Russia, you have to register at every new destination city within seven business days upon arrival.

Insurance Policy Before coming to Russia, we kindly recommend you to check that your insurance plan is valid on the territory of the Russian Federation and contact your insurance company to find out how to use it while in Russia.

Safety tips Please keep the following documents with you: passport with valid visa, migration card, registration slip, and boarding pass.

Getting to Moscow

Airports There are four international airports in Moscow: Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, , and Zhukovskiy. Aeroexpress is available from the first three airports. It is a quick and safe way to reach the city centre without traffic jams. You can buy tickets in the airport at terminals or online on https://aeroexpress.ru/en/aero.html. The ticket price varies from 420 rub (~7 euro) to 1000 (~20 euro) rub. You can use the Aeroexpress service from 05.15 a.m. until 00.30 a.m., but we advise that you check the train schedule before your trip.

Metro system The Metro is the easiest and the most reliable way to get around Moscow. The Metro operates from 05.30 a.m. until 01.00 a.m.

There is a first-aid station and police post at every station.

Moscow Metro map We kindly recommend that you download the “Yandex Metro” app (available in English) where you can get the metro map, information about metro stations and calculate your travel time. You can download the application from Google Play or App Store on your mobile devise.

Taxis You can also use taxi services to travel to the city from the airport. The following companies are equipped with English-speaking operators:  Angel-Taxi, tel. +7 (495) 956 0800 An airport transfer should cost from 2600 RUB. Note: 60 minutes of gratis waiting after your scheduled landing time. You can book a taxi in advance online at http://www.angel-taxi.com.  LingoTaxi, tel. +7 (495) 204 21 34 LingoTaxi offers you airport transfers in Moscow. All LingoTaxi drivers speak English. An airport transfer should cost from 2200 RUB. You can book a taxi in advance online at https://lingotaxi.com/moscow-airport-taxi-transfer

You can also use the mobile taxi apps downloaded to your mobile devise from App Store or Google Play. You can order a taxi in the following apps: 1. Uber 2. Yandex Taxi 3. Gett (Get Taxi) The apps have an English interface but most drivers won’t speak English.

Please be aware that taxis are quite expensive in Moscow and can often be very slow because of the city’s heavy traffic jams. 4

Getting around There are 2 HSE buildings in Moscow centre – 9/11 and 20 Myasnitskaya.

20 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa 11 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa

Both buildings are opposite each other and easily accessible by subway with the following stations just 5–10 minutes away: (red line), Chistiye Prudy (red line).

Chistye Prudy Station: Exit to Myasnitskaya Ulitsa (Мясницкая улица), which you should follow towards the city centre. 11 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa will be on your right. Estimated walking time: 7 minutes.

Lubyanka Station: Exit to Myasnitskaya Ulitsa (Мясницкая улица), which you should follow. 11 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa will be on your left. Estimated walking time: 5-7 minutes.

20 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa is just across from 11 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa and a few metres up the street. Estimated walking time: 5-7 minutes.

If you are planning to go to St. Petersburg It is convenient to use train to get from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Tickets can be booked online on http://pass.rzd.ru/main-pass/public/en. With the high-speed Sapsan train, you will be able to reach St. Petersburg in four hours. Trains depart from Leningradsky railway station (Ленинградский вокзал) situated near Komsomolskaya (brown line or red line).

If you are planning to go to Nizhny Novgorod You can get to Nizhny Novgorod by train. Tickets can be booked online on http://pass.rzd.ru/main-pass/public/en. With the high-speed trains Strizh or Lastochka, you will be able to reach Nizhny Novgorod in four hours. Trains depart from Kurskiy railway station (Курский вокзал) situated near Kurskaya metro station (brown line).

Currency and money The official monetary unit in Russia is the ruble. You can buy rubles at exchange offices in banks. You can only receive cash in rubles when withdrawing money from your own bank card in ATM machines in Russia. A withdrawal fee can be charged when withdrawing cash in ATMs. Please note that exchanging currency at the airport is more expensive. In the city, the exchange rate is usually more favorable.

Payment cards Payment cards, especially Visa, MasterCard and American Express, are widely accepted at shops and restaurants in Moscow.

ATM / Cash Machines A VTB 24 ATM machine is situated on the ground floor at 11 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa and 20 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa. A Sberbank ATM machine is also on the ground floor at 20 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa.

Other ATM machines can easily be found at bank branches located on Myasnitskaya Ulitsa. . Raiffeisen Bank ATM (22/2/5 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa); . Alfa-Bank ATM (13 bld. 1 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa).
