Volcaniclastic Turbidites of the Coşuştea Nappe: a Record of Late Cretaceous Arc Volcanism in the South Carpathians (Romania)
GEOLOGICA BALCANICA, 43.1 – 3, Sofia, Dec. 2014, 77-98. Volcaniclastic turbidites of the Coşuştea Nappe: a record of Late Cretaceous arc volcanism in the South Carpathians (Romania) Antoneta Seghedi, Gheorghe Oaie National Institute of Marine Geology and Geoecology, 23-25 Dimitrie Onciul St., sector 2, Bucharest, Romania; e-mails: [email protected]; [email protected] (Accepted in revised form: November 2014) Abstract. Sedimentological and mineralogical composition of Upper Cretaceous terrigenous and volcaniclastic sandstones are presented for the Coşuştea Nappe of the South Carpathians, Romania, in order to constrain the provenance and tectonic setting of deposition. Existing geochemical data on volcaniclastic rocks were interpreted using discrimination diagrams in order to get additional information. The Coşuştea Nappe includes terrigenous turbidites, overlain by upward coarsening sequences of volcaniclastic turbidites, both associated with a strongly dismembered mélange complex. Facies association and vertical facies distribution suggest that terrigenous successions are midfan turbidites, dominated by deposition in suprafan channels. Their sandstone mineralogy indicates that a major sediment source, located on the upper plate, provided detritus of Getic type metamorphic basement and withinplate volcanic rocks, with minor input from the accretionary wedge. Volcaniclastic sedimentation took place as dominantly sandstone deposition in supracone lobes, followed by coarse sedimentation as channelized debris flows. Vertical facies distribution suggests evolution in time from midfan to proximal fan turbidites. Mineralogical composition of volcaniclastic sandstones indicates provenance from a major volcanic source, with minor contributions from the accretionary wedge and from an upper continental plate supplying terrigenous siliciclastic detritus, and suggests that volcaniclastic turbidites accumulated in a trench or a slope forearc basin. -

Muzeul Olteniei Craiova. Oltenia. Studii i comunicri. tiinele Naturii, Tom XXIII/2007 ISSN 1454-6914 THE ROSACEAE FAMILY FROM THE LOWER BASIN OF THE MOTRU RIVER IULIAN COSTACHE, MARINELA ELENA COSTACHE Abstract. The paper presents the species from Rosaceae Family, which were identified in the Lower Basin of the Motru River. Their identification was performed short before the defence of the Ph.D. thesis. Key words: Basin, flora, Motru, Rosaceae Rezumat Rosaceele din Bazinului inferior al Motrului. Lucrarea prezint speciile din familia Rosaceae identificate în Bazinul inferior al râului Motru. Identificarea a fost realizat înainte de susinerea tezei de doctorat. Cuvinte cheie: Bazin, flora, Motru, Rosaceae INTRODUCTION From the geographical point of view, the Lower Basin of the Motru River lies in the western part of the Getic Piedmont, with the coordinates: 440 55' north latitude and 230 45' east longitudes. The studied area is 691 Km2. From the administrative-territorial point of view, the territory under research is located at the borderline between the counties of Gorj and Mehedini – the borderline starts in the eastern part of the Negoieti Hills (Comneti-Mehedini, altitude 388 m) and reaches Valea Jiului near Gura Motrului (altitude 110 m). Being situated in the south-western part of the country and of the Getic Piedmont, the studied area has a Central-European climate with sub-Mediterranean influences. In the territory under research, there have been made floristic and phytosociological studies between 1997 and 2005, within the PhD thesis (COSTACHE I., 2005). Besides the scientific side of the research, it had been wanted the applicant approach too, instructive- ecological. -
388 in Ancient Times, on the Territory Found Southwest of Dacia After
In ancient times, on the territory found southwest of Dacia after the conquest A. Caecina Severus was endowed by the governor of Macedonia, as Μυσιας were formed two military ground alignments Lederata–Tibiscum and Dierna– άρχων and in this quality he defeated the barbarians from Pannonia at Sirmium, Tibiscum, along with two other along the Danube between Banatska Palanka– but because Dacians and Sarmaths attacked, he had to leave the battlefield – as Dio Dierna and Drobeta on Mureş river, far less conclusive currently, the one from Casssius (LV, 30) relates. He turned to the territories where the new invasion Bulci–Micia. The fortifications have attracted the attention of specialists further- occurred in order to reject the attack. At that moment, the legatus of Macedonia more as they were backed by earth walls marking the boundaries and thus protected province was identified as Sex. Aelius Catus. At the beginning of the following the province. year, in 7 A.D, Caecina Severus found on the territory of future Moesia province The most majority of the studies have emerged in postwar period through the will follow the attackers in barbaricum and will find himself caught in the Volceene establishment of new museums in Reşiţa and Caransebeş alongside Timişoara and marshes where he settled camp. This place was not specified so far, but it could be Arad, thus increasing the number of archaeologists concerned with research in the related with the marshes found around Tisza River. With some military efforts, area. The most important researches have been conducted by Professor M. Macrea, Caecina Severus, managed to get out of this situation. -

Considerations Regarding the Emergence, Evolution and Development of Daco-Roman Law and the Law of the Romanian Countries Until the 19Th Century
Journal of Law and Administrative Sciences No.13/2020 CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING THE EMERGENCE, EVOLUTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF DACO-ROMAN LAW AND THE LAW OF THE ROMANIAN COUNTRIES UNTIL THE 19TH CENTURY Associate Professor Mihail NIEMESCH, PhD. ”Titu Maiorescu” University, Romania [email protected] Abstract Romanian law is part of the family of Romano-Germanic law, right from the beginning of its appearance, motivated by a first circumstance according to which the Daco-Roman populations, after the conquest of Dacia by the Roman Empire, applied in parallel both the local legal customs and general principles of Roman law. During the Roman conquest, an important dimension of public administration in Dacia, a Roman province, was concerned with the legal norms of Roman and local law. Roman law appears in this province in the form of civil law and gentile law, the law applied in Roman Dacia having a statutory character, in the sense that each category of persons had a well-defined legal status. In the Wallachia, Moldova and Muntenia, a new stage of codification of legal norms appears, the sources of inspiration being especially the French, Italian, Swiss legislations, etc. Keywords: Roman Law, The law of the land, Ordinary law Introduction We can definitely speak of a Romanian law, in the classical sense of the notion, once with the formation of the Romanian Principalities. Equally valid is the fact that until the historical moment of great significance for the Romanian nation, the Union of 1859, there were three "Romanian Countries", mostly populated by Romanians and where Romanian traditions and customary rules influenced the evolution and development of these state formations. -

P. Serafimov ETYMOLOGICAL ANALYSIS of THRACIAN TOPONYMS and HYDRONYMS
134 P. Serafimov ETYMOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THRACIAN TOPONYMS AND HYDRONYMS Abstract This paper offers an etymological analysis of more than 60 Thracian toponyms, hydronyms and oronyms. It presents the evidence that the Slavs were the indigenous population in the region, in agreement to the testimony of Simokatta, who equated Thracians (called Getae) with the Old Slavs: «Sclavos sive Getas hoc enim nomine antiquitus appellati sunt” – “Slavs or Getae, because this is the way they were called in the antiquity”. Introduction The toponyms, hydronyms and oronyms can provide very valuable information about the inhabitants of certain lands, because every ethnic group has their own names for moun- tain, valley, lake, and village more or less different from these of the other people. Slavic Bela Gora (White mountain) corresponds to German Weiss Berg, the Greek Λέύκος Oρος and Latin Albus Mons. Judging by these differences and peculiarities we can determine the ethnic affiliation of people who lived a long time ago in a certain geographical area. In this paper the attention is given to the Old Thracian lands: from the Carpathian Mountains to Asia Minor and from Black Sea till Dardania (Serbia). But I have to clarify that these regions do not represent the totality of the Thracian domain, in reality it continued to the Hercynian forest (Schwarzwald in Germany), Map 1, where according to Strabo the country of the Getae began [1], VII-2-III-1. Facts and discussion The terms for different types of settlements in the Thracian lands were: DABA (DAVA), PARA (PHARA), BRIA, DIZA, MIDNE, OSS (VIS), and DAMA.
