Madhya Pradesh CM launches 'PANKH Abhiyan' • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the 'PANKH Abhiyan' under the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' scheme in order to aid in empowerment and growth of the girl child on the occasion of National Girl Child Day (24 January). • PANKH: 'P' stands for protection, 'A' for awareness of their rights, 'N' for nutrition, 'K' for knowledge and 'H' for health. The abhiyan will go on for a year. • Facts about Madhya Pradesh: Recently, UNESCO has alloted Panna Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh ‘Biosphere Reserve’ status. 2. Uttar Pradesh becomes the first state in the country with two airstrips on expressways • One airstrip is on Lucknow-Agra Expressway while the other is near Kurebhar on Purvanchal Expressway (3,300-metre-long airstrip). • Airstrips on expressways are designed to facilitate emergency landing and take- off of fighter planes. • Facts about Uttar Pradesh: Recently, ‘Udyam Sarathi’ app was launched on UP Diwas by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to promote entrepreneurship among youth and help them explore new opportunities for self-employment. www.gradeup.co 3. Cabinet approved Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Copra for 2021 season • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of copra for the 2021 season. • The MSP for Fair Average Quality (FAQ) of milling copra has been increased, by Rs.375/-, to Rs. 10335/- per quintal for 2021 season from Rs. 9960/- per quintal in 2020. • The MSP for ball copra has been increased, by Rs.300/-, to Rs. 10,600/- per quintal for 2021 season from Rs. 10300/- per quintal in 2020. • The approval is based on recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). • Note: India is number one in production and productivity of copra in the World. It is mainly grown in the 12 coastal states. 4. India: Total FDI inflow of US$ 58.37 billion received during April to November, 2020 • Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is a major driver of economic growth and an important source of non-debt finance for the economic development of India. • India received a total FDI inflow of US$ 58.37 billion during April to November, 2020. It is the highest ever for the first 8 months of a financial year www.gradeup.co and 22% higher as compared to the first 8 months of 2019-20 (US$ 47.67 billion). • Note: UN report: FDI inflows into India jump by 13% to $57 billion in 2020. • The report said China became the largest recipient of FDI, attracting an estimated $163 billion in inflows, followed by the US with $134 billion. 5. Indian economy to report narrow contraction of 8% in FY21, 11.5% GDP growth in FY22: IMF • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on January 26, 2021 revised its gross domestic product (GDP) projections upward for the current fiscal year and FY 2022 in its forecast update submitted to the World Economic Outlook report. • The IMF has predicted India's economy to contract narrowly by 8 percent in the current financial year in comparison to the earlier projected contraction of 10.3 percent. • India is predicted to grow by 11.5% in 2021-22 and 6.8% in 2022-23. • The IMF has projected the world economy to contract by 3.5 percent in 2020. The global economy is projected to grow 5.5% in 2021 and 4.2% in 2022. • Note: FICCI survey forecasts 8% GDP contraction in FY21. • Indian economy may grow at 7.3% in the calendar year 2021 by the United Nations. 6. Global Climate Risk Index 2021 • The Global Climate Risk Index 2021, released by Germanwatch -an NGO based in Bonn, Germany, analyses to what extent countries and regions have been affected by impacts of weather-related loss events. • The most recent data available for 2019 and from 2000 to 2019 were taken into account. • The countries and territories affected most in 2019 were Mozambique, Zimbabwe as well as the Bahamas. • For the period from 2000 to 2019 Puerto Rico, Myanmar and Haiti rank highest. • India ranks seventh among countries most affected in 2019 by climate change. 8.
