25/9/06 Press release - BJ Cole and Theo Travis join Steve Lawson for October’s Recycle Collective night. Legendary pedal steel player and celebrated saxophonist join solo bassist for an unmissable evening of improvised organic electronica. Once again, The Recycle Collective presents London’s most vital gig of the month as on October 12th, Steve Lawson’s improvised music night plays host to pedal steel legend BJ Cole and saxophonist/flautist Theo Travis. With a session credit list that reads like a who’s who of rock and pop from the last 40 years, BJ Cole could easily spent his time happily gracing the record- ings of rock’s glitterati, but BJ has long been a celebrated solo artist, from his groundbreaking 70s album ‘New Hovering Dog’, through the seminal ambient work ‘Transparent Music’ (recently reissued on CD), to more recent collabora- tions with DJ Luke Vibert and his latest solo album ‘Trouble In Paradise’. A hugely influential and respected musician, and widely regarded as one of the world’s leading exponents of the pedal steel, BJ’s visits to the Recycle Collective are always cause for celebration. In recent years, Theo Travis has expanded his status from being one of the most celebrated jazz saxophonists in the country to also become one of the leading lights in progressive music circles, working with , , Gong, and filling the shoes of the late great in Legacy. Theo’s a formidable improvisor, and his unique use of looped and layered alto flute along side soprano and tenor saxophone lends a distinctive and instantly recogniseable flavour to any project he’s involved with, including his duet CD with Steve Lawson, entitled ‘For The Love Of Open Spaces’. Steve Lawson has had a very busy summer, playing a critically acclaimed week-long run at the Edinburgh Festival, and having taken the Recycle Collective to the Greenbelt Festival over the Bank Holiday. His new CD, ‘Behind Every Word’ has been receiving rave reviews and radio airplay across the globe. With recent Recyclists including Seb Rochford, Jason Yarde, Leo Abrahams and Cleveland Watkiss, the Recycle Collective is earning a reputation for providing ground-breaking, genre-busting enthralling music every month. Don’t miss it!
