Quantities will be sent to all our parishes for free distribution. You can tell us in advance how many you wish to have, and we will be happy to oblige you. All we ask is that they be promoted and utilized effectively. The purpose? Instead of making personal gifts to friends and relatives, people are being urged to make gifts to the Earthquake Fund in their name. The card is designed, with a verse printed in both Armenian and English, to be sent to friends, informing them that, instead of a gift to them, a donation is being made to the Fund in their name. Your parishioners should be given as many of these cards as they wish, with the proviso once again that they are not wasted; in fact, they should be encouraged to use this method of giving. This year at least let us give in the true Christmas spirit, to those who are actually in need; and this year at least, for the benefit of compatriots in earthquake stricken Armenia. There will be announcements in the community press introducing the idea, and indicating that cards may be secured from any of our churches, as well as from the Diocesan office. Translations from Armenian into Bulgarian, 1991 to date a study by the Next Page Foundation in the framework of the Book Platform project conducted by Agop Ormandjiyan1 July 2012 1 Agop Ormandjiyan is armenologist and translator. This text is licensed under Creative Commons Translations from Armenian into Bulgarian, 1991 to date The traditional Bulgarian-Armenian cultural relations include also the translated Armenian literature in Bulgaria. The begging was after the Russian-Turkish war of 1878 and continues till today. During the 80s of XIX century some Armenian students in Sankt Petersburg translated from Bulgarian into Armenian several works of Luben Karavelov and Zahari Stoyanov on revolutionary theme, in order to raise the combat spirit of Armenian people against the Ottoman yoke. At the same time, in Bulgaria, are translated completely or partially some works from Armenian writers such as R. Patkanyan, Raffi, Kh. Abovian on revolutionary and daily topics. After the appearance of Peyo Yavorov’s elegy “Armenians”, among the intellectuals was shown a big interest toward this unknown old and new Armenian literature. In 1910 Ivan St. Andreychin publishes the anthology “Flowers of all fields”, which together with the world classic includes also works of Armenian poets such as Sayat-Nova, Nahapet Kuchak, Hovhannes Pluz. In 1942 Konstantin Dinolov publishes the anthology “Armenian poetry”. The second half of 20th century is more favourable for the development and the expansion of Armenian translation literature, in Bulgaria, especially during the period 1935-68. The compulsory presence of translation pieces of the SSSR’s literatures obliges the publishing houses to include in their publishing plans also the Armenian literature.

At the age of 31, when he was blossoming to become a poet of international stature, he was brutally murdered (see below) by the government of "The Young Turks", like Siamanto, Zohrab and many others, as part of the officially planned and executed Genocide of the whole Armenian nation. Varoujan was born in the Prknig village of Sivas, Turkey. After attending the local school, he was sent in 1896, the year of the Hamidian massacres, to Istanbul, where he attended the Mkhitarian school. He than continued his education at Mourad- Rafaelian school of Venice, and in 1905 entered the university of Ghent in Belgium, where he followed courses in literature, sociology and economics. In 1909 he returned to his village where he taught for three years. After his marriage in 1912, he became the principal of St. Gregory The Illuminator School in Istanbul. In 1914, Daniel Varoujan established the "Mehian" literary group and magazine with Gosdan Zarian, Hagop Oshagan, Aharon and Kegham Parseghian. The purpose of this movement was to start an Armenian Renaissance, to wake the nation up from centuries of slavery and darkness, to reconnect it to its great Pre-Christian past ("Mehian" means temple), and to encourage it to stand up on its own feet and not tolerate any tyranny, whether from its own corrupt leadership or the Turkish government.
