EMILIE CHICK

"I love Emilie Chick…

…but I can’t pin down her style..." © NASSIRA BELMEKKI. All rights reserved. It is hard to define Emilie Chick’s music: hip-hop, swing, electro, pop, soul? It’s as if choosing one genre would deprive her of all the others. While the quartet remains groovy, it ventures out into daring pop arrangements, on which Emilie’s voice navigates like the bad-girl, crooner, spoken word, diva that she alternatively is. Gilles Peterson, the English musical pope, loved her so much he named her Winner and Revelation of his 2008 Worldwide Festival. In 2010 she released her 1st solo album, precisely mixing all her influences, very urban, and was awarded the « Best Album » Prize by the European Musical Press at the Europavox/Adami/Deezer de Talents competition in 2010. Since then, a variety of great producers have remixed her tracks. Currently adding the finishing touches to her next album, Emilie has settled in the South of France where she and her band were pre-selected for the 2012 edition of the famous emerging artists Festival “Printemps de Bourges”. Promising isn’t it?

PRESS REVIEW Stricking red lipstick and iroquois haircut to match, [Emilie Chick] opens the evening. We We arrived nearly at the end of the set, just in time to discover the band. Its organisation is unusual : no understand we had definitely missed something. The blend guitar and a vibrant three-instrument is an ingenious one : rock, jazz, soul, and hip hop collide conversation between the bass, the drums and at the crossing of paths. It’s precise yet very groovy, the the keyboaords. And the voice calls to mind solid

DISCORDANCE - July 2012

Of rare subtlety, Emilie Chick's electro trip-hop will also please fans of feminine jazzy voices. In an embroidered setting of piano, keyboards and sample machines, the lady's tone oscillates between a typical atmosphere and old-school swing. We are in a contemporary lounge bar where her very special sort of sensual and silky voice glides over a groovy bass that humanizes her urban electro sound. Classy and current. A candy cane. Simply chic. FANZYO – December 2011 / January 2012

Remember: we had offered you a free download on our digital sampler a couple of months ago of a very good deep-house remix by Charles Webster of the French-American singer Emilie Chick. Winner of Gilles Peterson's dear Worldwide Festival Talent Search in 2008, she is back with her first album. ...Which only confirms the talent and the soul-house-rare groove orientation of this first opus (…). TSUGI - May 2010

Between pop & soul, the musical world of this singer from Montpellier is colored with deep house thanks to the too rare Charles Webster. A beautiful discovery.

Émilie Chick “The Next Day (Charles Webster remix)” - TSUGI Digital Sampler #25

Beware: talented artist! Emilie Chick is a young woman from the South of France who navigates between different musical genres without ever getting lost. A healthy dose of soul, electro accents here and there & a big hip-hop influence, this Chick is a girl in synch with The French-American releases a her time. 2011

“REMIXES : PART II” - LISTEN DJ Mr Fish launches the festivities with his intense, obsessional and tribal version of “Rough Times”, followed by Senbeï’s progressive descent into the disquieting marsh of his “Scholarship” remix, right before DOT turns “Weird Enough” into a joyful and highly charged electro hymn, but we are then taken by surprise by the majestic beauty of the haunted limbs wherein Charles Webster’s very personal version of “Scholarship” hypnotizes us. Silent Frequencies, the last guests on this EP, pays tribute to Emilie’s astounding voice that blends into the echo of the industrial shores whereto the duo leads us back, safe and sound.

“LIVE AT RADIO FRANCE”

On April 26, 2011, Emilie Chick was invited by Radio Sophia (Radio France programs bank) to play for their 15th birthday, along with Radiosofa, The Hub et Felipecha.
