glass for the future www.controlglass.com

With the experience obtained in the last 20 years, Control has suc- ceeded in gathering all the processes a glass processor of the 21st cen- tury should offer to the glass professionals. With the new plant in Platea (Teruel) for the production of curved laminated and tempered glass we have become one of the most polyvalent glass groups in Europe, being able to offer the widest range of processed products, with the capacity to combine different processes such as laminating, tempering, bending, double glazing or printed with ceramic inks.

We have over 50.000 m2 between factories, warehouses and technical offices, distributed around all over Europe, enabling us to deliver our pro- ducts to any point of the world.

All our meet the high demands of the applicable European Norms and also the Technical Building Code, which through the European Directive “Products for Buildings” 89/106/CE imposes the marking and declaration of technical characteristics of buil- ding products permanently incorporated in the building site. The “Obligatory CE Marking” allows for the manufacture and sale of the products within the European Union and requires a satisfactory evaluation of the products in accor- dance with the corresponding harmonized norms and with the applicable certificate of conformity. You can request the obligatory CE Marking of the products that Control Glass manufac- tures and selles through their web site: www.controlglass.com On the other hand, Control Glass has proved its commitment through the quality of its products and its customer care by obtaining the voluntary product certification for APPLUS double glazing units for all its factory units, as well as the global voluntary cer- tification according to the Quality Assurance System ISO 9001-2008, supported by the British Standards Institution certifying authority. Technical Advice

Three technical departments work closely with architects, façade glaziers and installers to find the perfect solution and the most adequate process, for either exterior or interior glazings. One of the technical departments totally dedicates itself to curved glass and another team dedicates itself to flat glass and its installation by means of hardware. The quality department co-ordinates both departments in issues related to certifications and the necessary tests for each case, as well as to the suitability of its application. New ideas are welcome in Control Glass, assisting us to stretch the limits of our creativity. In projects where the glazing has a structural role the technical department of the Control Glass offers the possibility to solve the problems in an integral manner by closely collaborating with the prescribers and co-ordinating all acting parties. The R & D department keeps us in a continuous spiral of innovation through its constant initiatives in the search of new processes. 06. Annealed curved glass 08. 06 Performance Centre of the Pozo de Nieve, Segovia Versatility and complex geometry Annealed curved glass is obtained through slow heating with high convection up to the sagging temperature of the flat glass sheet, which by means of a bending mould is curved to obtain any type of complex geometry. Thereafter the glass is slowly cooled (annealed). This technique offers a wide range of shapes such as double radius, flat and radius, conical shapes and even projects with spherical glass shapes. The versatility of this process also allows us to bend all types of glasses: tinted, patterned, thermo-shaped, Low-E, solar control, selective coatings and screen-printed. Furthermore it improves the optical quality compared to a curved tempered glass and for this reason it is more adequate for the production of laminated glass and double glazed insulating glass.

08 Stairway of the Basílica del Pilar, Zaragoza Curved tempered glass is obtained through heating by convection, bending with automatic tools and subsequent fast cooling, which results in a considerable increase of mechanical strength and the possible breakage into small grains, thus making it into a safety glazing. Furthermore, we can produce semi-tempered glass and carry out the Heat Soak Test if the project demands it. We have three different formats for our cylindrical benders, with different radii and spans in order to offer the widest range of solutions to the market, for either industrial or architectural glazings. The high convection in these furnaces allows us to bend and temper high selectivity coated glasses and Low-E glasses, with emissivity values down to 0,03. The high mechanical strength obtained through tempering allows us to produce glass units with holes, indents and edgework. The precision of these bending furnaces enables us to carry out projects with curved tempered and laminated glazings with high quality edgework.

An Infinity of Combinations Glass laminated with PVB and autoclave process is the only one that can fulfil the strictest building norms, both in filtering the U.V.A rays and exterior applications and in the fulfilment of the norms EN 12.600 (pendulum test), EN 356 (manual attack, mace and axe), EN 14.449 (evaluation of conformity of laminated glass) and EN 1.063 for bullet resistant glazings. The possibilities offered by this process to cover both interior and exterior demands are infinite. The limit for versatility with colour, shape and texture as well as the properties of curved laminated glazings is your imagination.

A façade with cold-bent glass

This is a process carried out during the au- toclave cycle, which proves a great com- mand of the equipment. With the cold- bend technique we can obtain large radius curvatures with little depth, depending on the glass thickness and dimensions. The advantage of this process is that the optical quality is equal to that of flat lami- nated annealed glass without edge . Large sizes can be produced, allowing for smoothness and continuity between the glass panes. Each project must be studied individually to analyse the possibilities.

Glass lamination is a complex process where not only high technology guarantees certain success. The possibilities and experience offered by our team lead us towards superiority in the product finish. With the three autoclaves at our plants we not only obtain good results with PVB, but opera- tion of high pressure equipment and sophisti- cated lamination techniques are put into use with other interlayers such as Polyurethane, Polycarbonate, Sentry Glass Plus, EVA or DG Structural with excellent results. Our two assembly lines guarantee us produc- tion capacity, but it is the off-line processes where skill and cleanroom quality, operating at low temperatures and humidity control that allow us to obtain the best finish and adhesion of the glass unit with exceptional properties.

20 The use of DG Structural on floorings Structural performance The new Protek DG Structural is composed of two or more glass panes and one interlayer of extra resistant PVB with weight resistance largely surpassing that of conventional PVB and beyond that of glass. It gives high structural properties to the unit and has unsurpassable behaviour under pressu- re, combining high rigidity (100-fold compared with that of conventional PVB) and high adhesion. The Protek DG Structural combined with semi-tempered glass offers high protection thanks to its great adhesion and hardness, which provide extra safety in stairways, balconies, balustrades, skylights, floors and places where spontaneous breakage could cause an aperture in the structure, particularly in attachment systems with abotonados. Based on aeronautic technology and with a long history in the development of products capable of resisting hurricanes and tyuphoons, the DG Structural has the capacity of maintaining the glazing intact, in high or low temperatures, even after exposure to impact or heavy loads.

Great versatility The versatility of this product is as wide as that of traditional PVB. To the already familiar properties of acoustic attenuation and U.V.A filtration up to 99 % must be added that it can be cut with traditio- nal means (roller and cutter), it can be polished and installed with exposed edges. Most importantly, it can be combined with more than 1.000 colours, it has various levels of translu- cency and can even be combined with PVBs for reinforced acoustic attenuation. As to the versatility and combination of glasses, it is infinite; from the most selective coatings, Low-E, printed, tinted, solar control, etc.

Edge stability The result of our sophisticated laminating techniques, the extreme conditions of our cleanrooms and the combination of heat and high pressure is a block resistant to delamination under extreme humidity and heat conditions, compatible with Low-E coatings, reflective glasses or ceramic layers. Through all this Protek DG Structural proves great edge stability and is excellent for applications with edges exposed to extreme climatic conditions. This line of Protek DG Structural has been developed for applications where the glass has a structu- ral function, where more resistance to continuous loads and pressure is required, or where there is a demand that the glazing can support certain weight or pressure after breakage, since its specific function is not that of repelling manual attacks (anti-burglar).

22 Office building at Plaza, Zaragoza Private housing Screenprinting Screen-printing With the use of silk-screens we can print different images on glass, with opaque or translucent ceramic inks, with the desired design or RAL colour. After the tempering process the inks are vitrified and the screen-printed images remain unaltered with time.

In use on façades this process can be combined with solar control or Low-E glasses, apart from the reduction of the solar factor (g value) by the percentage of the printed area. If we want a totally opaque zone we would use ceramic paints applied with rollers adapted for the desired opacity.

Screen-printing 2200 X 3000 mm. Opacified with roller 2000 X 3660 mm.

Inclusions If the project requires it, the capacity to laminate cloth, paper, leds, natural fibres, metallic foils and meshes up to a certain thic- kness together with PVB, opens a world of application possibilities to this technique, which usually is produced with EVA. In this way the range of applications is widened, since PVB blocks ultraviolet rays, and we can also obtain safety certification EN-356.

Digital printing Digital printing techniques allow us to let creativity fly, without the necessity to make screens and allowing the use a great chromatic range of vivid colours, without necessitating large projects.

Exterior use For external use where colour degradation is critical, it is adequate to use ceramic paints. No other technique can guarantee the durability offered by these paints and therefore the glazings must be tempered. The colour palette is limited to ceramic paints but some spectacular things can be made. Our creative department closely collaborates in the realization of projects in order to make the best use of this novel technique.

Interior use We have different techniques and finishes for using digital printing in interiors. We have the pos- sibility to print on different substrates with organic inks, thus obtaining different types of results. Led light inclusion We can print on PVB, on a plastic sheet (Polyester or PET), or print directly on glass, which gives the best results. These inks must always be protected in laminated glass. This is really an unli- mited and fascinating field. The colours are vivid and bright, both as opaque and translucent. The treatment and quality of the image are the initial point to get the best out of this technique. Great photography artists and digital procedures involved in these projects in order to consider the ima- ges as authentic works of art.
