Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife 21st of January - 22nd of February 2015 Every year, crowds of people come to experience this fiesta where everything is allowed and you have only one obligation: to have fun. Rhythm, color, flamboyance, luxury and of course the most brilliant spectacle. The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival is the most “Brazilian” of all the Spanish carnivals, and it is famous all over the world for its popular flavor. For fifteen days, the streets of the city come alive with joie de vivre, freedom and extravagance. You cant miss it! It’s the place to be! Las Fallas Valencia 1st – 19th of March 2015 Las Fallas is Valencia's most international festival. In the week of 19 March, the city fills with gigantic cardboard monuments, called ninots, for a competition that is marked by art, ingenuity and good taste. The origin of the celebration goes back to the carpenter's parot: these were wooden lamps used to light their workshops in winter, which they would burn out in the street on the night before the feast of San José. At first they would make them look like human forms by decorating them with old clothes and fabric. In the mid-19th century, however, they began to increase in size and height and to improve their forms, becoming huge decorative statues. Although the most important acts are held during the week of the 19th, Valencia is busy preparing the festive atmosphere from 1 March with the mascletás, noisy firework displays that take place every day at 2pm in Town Hall Square. When the night of the 15th March finally arrives, it is time for the traditional plantà of the fallas. Holy Friday in Seville 3rd of April 2015 Holy Week in Sevilla is certainly, the Festival of Seville. On Friday, a lot of guilds of all neighborhoods made the journey of his penitence with hundreds of Nazarenes and siblings who accompany their sacred images in steps through the streets of Seville. Holy Week in Sevilla has a tradition of canons and guidelines that have been replicated in many parts of the world and especially in Andalusia, except the cities of Malaga and Cadiz where they have their own customs and traditions preserved for centuries until today The people of Sevilla accompanied during the journey especially on Friday to the images in his footsteps, Nazarenes dresses, carrying candles, crosses and other elements of the brotherhoods. The steps of Holy Week in Seville, are elaborate works of art which carry a processional images. Feria de Sevilla 21 – 26 of April 2015 The Feria de Abril in Sevilla is the Folks Festival and the city shows itself with all its glory. The annual participation is for the Sevillians a must! The thousands of booths on the festival area, become a second home for them during that week. The Feria differs from day and night. While you can hear the hoofbeats of the horses echoing through the streets during the day, the rhythm of flamenco accompanies you up until the early morning. Live the REAL SPAIN with RTA! Las Cruces de Granada 3rd of May 2015 The Fiesta de las Cruces reminisces about the invention of the Holy Cross and is celebrated since ancient times. Feria del Caballo de Jerez 10- 17 of May 2015 As usual Jerez celebrates the spring with a Horse Fair, one of the most important events in Spain. Just one week after the Feria of Seville and before El Rocío. Its origins are in the medieval ages, during one week farmers gathered to sell and buy animals, in Jerez mainly horses, usually drinking sherry to celebrate the deals. Nowadays it is celebrated in Parque González Hontoria (Jerez) and the fair offers a unique atmosphere complementary to the equestrian & flamenco activities. The Feria is divided in two parts. One is a kind of small village; with streets that have bars and restaurants at both sides (these restaurants are called Casetas). The other is a Theme Park/carnival style area where kids and adults can have fun on different rides such as roller coasters, bumper cars etc... Feria de San Isidro Madrid 15 of May 2015 The festivities in honour of San Isidro offer a unique chance to see Madrid at its most typical. They are held in May, and are a time when the chulapos and goyescos (inhabitants of the city dressed in the traditional costume of Madrid) take to the streets to enjoy themselves with music, dancing the typical regional dance known as the chotis and eating typical dishes in honour of the Saint. This is also the occasion of the prestigious San Isidro bullfighting festival. The festivities of San Isidro are held every year in Madrid around 15 May, the day of San Isidro. Besides, the San Isidro bullfighting festival is held in the Las Ventas bullring, and attracts some of the biggest names in bullfighting today. A unique chance to discover some of the most authentic customs of Madrid, a major capital city which still conserves all its popular traditions intact. Fiesta del Corpus Christi Toledo 4th of June 2015 Toledo ’s streets are clothed in finery to celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi: a solemn procession which takes place in an atmosphere of singing, the aroma of herbs, and spiritual fervor. Corpus Christi is Toledo’s most important festival and one of its oldest. Although its exact date of origin is unknown, it is recorded as having been celebrated in the 15th century. This solemn religious procession is celebrated on the day of the Corpus Christi and presided by the Archbishop of Toledo, cardinal primate of Spain. If you wish you can watch the proceedings from the seats arranged along the streets by paying in advance at the booth installed in the Zocodover square. You will also have the chance to see the beautiful interior courtyards inside the city’s mansions and stately homes, as these buildings open their doors to the public on the day of the Corpus. San fermin Pamplona 6th – 14th of July 2015 The fiestas are celebrated in honor of Saint Fermin, patron of Navarra. Sanfermin is internationally known for the event of the running of the bulls, where the bulls are let loose through some of the streets of the old part of the city and it is also synonymous with street-partying. Many people dress up in the Sanfermin white and red gear and wear the traditional necktie and sash. The running of the bulls take place from the t6h of July to the 14th of July inclusive at 8.00 am in the morning. At midday on the 6th of July the fiestas open with the txupinazo rocket. Semana grande Aste Nagusia 22nd – 30th of August 2015 The Great Week of Bilbao is the main festival of Bilbao in the Basque Country which is celebrated annually over the following 9 days from 15 August. There are fiestas in honour of the Virgin de Begonia. Bilbao is the setting for concerts, shows, theatre, fireworks and children's activities at different points in the city, such as Plaza Nueva square, Bizkaia, Unamuno and Encarnación squares, and the Urbitarte and Arenal wharves. The speeches and "chupinazo" (fireworks) to open the celebrations will take place from the Arriaga theatre. There will also be a program of bullfights at the Vista Alegre bullring, including a horseback bullfight and eight normal bullfights. Fiesta de la Tomatina 26th of August 2015 La Tomatina is a festival that is held in the Valencian town of Buñol. In which participants throw tomatoes and get involved in this tomato fight purely for fun.
