Family Participation Is The Essential Ingredient In All Passover Recipes There was always a sense of warmth and support when we sat in the kitchen, whether we were watching Mom (in those days it was generally a Mom thing) prepare some new or familiar dish, or when we were invited to actually participate in the cooking or baking. Not only did we have a chance to be drawn in to the actual task, but we had an extended and supportive opportunity to talk about whatever was on either her mind or on ours. Somehow it was the most encouraging environment for what today we call “communication.” The informality linked with the tastes and smells and the sight of the cooking and baking seemed just right. Today, one of the phenomena of the modern modern American family is that fathers are cooking and baking more than ever before; some claim that it is quickly becoming the number one avocation of men between the ages of 25 and 45.

Fast WW forward to today: Tel Aviv has blossomed with possibilities for burritos and genuinely spicy salsa and is currently home to at least six delicious Mexican-style restaurants. In truth, the ingredients used in Mexican food aren’t that different from those native to the Israeli diet: fresh tomatoes, cilantro, avocado, citrus and lots of spices.

  • Galilee Green Israeli Salad
Galilee Green Israeli Salad Bring a taste of Israel into your home! You can find Israeli Salad at any meal and on any table in Israel. Especially when Israelis are barbecuing outdoors like they do on Yom HaAtzmaut – Israel Independence day which falls on May 9, 2019. This salad showcases fresh tasting Israeli tomatoes and cucumbers with a generous shpritz of lemon juice and olive oil. It can include whatever vegetable that can be chopped into small squares. What makes a salad an Israeli Salad? Most likely it is the look of the vegetables chopped as small as possible. It can also be the variety of colors, red, green, purple and orange, but it is definitely the taste. The lemon and onion jumps out playfully and pleasantly. I like to add pickles for the saltiness. The dash of pepper and garlic compliments and enhances the flavors of the ingredients. Fresh Israeli Garlic, Lemon and GGOO! Many recipes call for fresh chopped parsley for the green and added freshness. Go ahead and be creative. Just think small and chopped. There are no exact measurements. Have fun and enjoy and bring the taste of Israel to your table. For more great salad recipes from Israel, get our free Israeli Salad Cookbook here. Serves Two Ingredients 1 tomato 1 cucumber ½ red pepper 1/3 purple onion 2 pickles You can add: chopped carrots, fresh parsley, mung bean sprouts, scallions…. • Middle Eastern Cuisine
MIDDLE EASTERN CUISINE The term Middle Eastern cuisine refers to the various cuisines of the Middle East. Despite their similarities, there are considerable differences in climate and culture, so that the term is not particularly useful. Commonly used ingredients include pitas, honey, sesame seeds, sumac, chickpeas, mint and parsley. The Middle Eastern cuisines include: Arab cuisine Armenian cuisine Cuisine of Azerbaijan Assyrian cuisine Cypriot cuisine Egyptian cuisine Israeli cuisine Iraqi cuisine Iranian (Persian) cuisine Lebanese cuisine Palestinian cuisine Somali cuisine Syrian cuisine Turkish cuisine Yemeni cuisine ARAB CUISINE Arab cuisine is defined as the various regional cuisines spanning the Arab World from Iraq to Morocco to Somalia to Yemen, and incorporating Levantine, Egyptian and others. It has also been influenced to a degree by the cuisines of Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, India, the Berbers and other cultures of the peoples of the region before the cultural Arabization brought by genealogical Arabians during the Arabian Muslim conquests. HISTORY Originally, the Arabs of the Arabian Peninsula relied heavily on a diet of dates, wheat, barley, rice and meat, with little variety, with a heavy emphasis on yogurt products, such as labneh (yoghurt without butterfat). As the indigenous Semitic people of the peninsula wandered, so did their tastes and favored ingredients. There is a strong emphasis on the following items in Arabian cuisine: 1. Meat: lamb and chicken are the most used, beef and camel are also used to a lesser degree, other poultry is used in some regions, and, in coastal areas, fish. Pork is not commonly eaten--for Muslim Arabs, it is both a cultural taboo as well as being prohibited under Islamic law; many Christian Arabs also avoid pork as they have never acquired a taste for it.
