DABABAT5 Summary Root-lesion nematodes (RLN; Pratylenchus thornei and Pratylenchus neglectus) are serious plant parasitic nematodes that attack wheat roots and cause significant losses in grain quality and quantity worldwide. They are widely distributed in Turkish wheat growing areas and can be only controlled by growing resistant cultivars and non- host crops. So far, there is no commercial wheat cultivar identified as completely resistant to the RLN is available. The objective of this research was to evaluate some Turkish wild Emmers (Triticum dicoccoides) and national spring wheat varieties for resistant to P. thornei and P. neglectus. In the experiments, 32 wild Emmers and 42 wheat cultivars were inoculated with P. thornei or P. neglectus individuals and grown under controlled conditions in a growth room for 9 weeks. The results showed that 25 and 35 wheat varieties were moderately resistant to P. thornei and P. neglectus, respectively. In total, 17 lines exhibiting multiple resistance reactions to both nematodes were in the same group with the check lines (P<0.05). The identified resistant wheat accessions showed improved levels of RLN resistance over current parents and could serve as an excellent genetic pool to be used in an efficient Turkish wheat- breeding programme. Keywords: Wheat, wild emmer, root lesion nematodes, Pratylenchus spp., resistance Özet Kök lezyon nematodları (RLN; Pratylenchus thornei ve P. neglectus) buğday köklerine saldırarak, tahıl kalitesi ve miktarında küresel olarak önemli kayıplara neden olan önemli bir bitki paraziti nematod gurubudur. Türkiye’de buğday ekiliş alanlarında yaygın olarak bulunan bu nematodlarla ancak dayanıklı çeşitler ve rotasyonla mücadele etmek mümkündür. Maalesef bugüne kadar bu nematod gurubuna karşı tamamen dayanıklı olarak tanımlanan hiçbir ticari buğday çeşidi bulunamamıştır. Bu nedenle, buğday ıslah programlarında yüksek verimli ve kaliteli buğday çeşitlerine orta derecede (kısmi) dayanıklı ebeveynler kullanılarak dayanıklılık entegre edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu araştırmanın amacı bazı Türk yabani Emmer’lerinin (Triticum dicoccoides) ve bazı ulusal yazlık buğday çeşitlerinin P. thornei ve P. neglectus’a karşı dayanıklılık durumlarını ortaya koymaktır.

The digitisation of the resources of the Zoology Research Group, University of Silesia in Katowice (Poland) allowed presenting a substantial collection of scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha). The collection counts 9369 slide-mounted specimens, about 200 alcohol-preserved samples, close to 2500 dry specimens stored in glass vials and 1319 amber inclu- sions representing 343 taxa (289 identified to species level), 158 genera and 36 families (29 extant and seven extinct).

According to the latest data, the scale insect fauna of the whole Greek territory includes 207 species; of which 187 species are recorded from mainland Greece and the minor islands, whereas only 87 species are known from Crete. The most rich families are the Diaspididae (with 86 species), followed by Coccidae (with 35 species) and Pseudococcidae (with 34 species). In this study the results of a zoogeographic analysis of scale insect fauna from mainland Greece and Crete are also presented. Five species, four from mainland Greece and one from Crete are considered to be endemic.

Collection details for 34 species of scale insect (27 native and naturalised species, seven introduced species established on indoor plantings) and eight species of whitefly (six native and naturalized, two introduced species established on indoor plantings) are provided. INTRODUCTION National and regional checklists are essential as baseline data from which faunistic changes due to factors such as climate change and international trade can be monitored and accurately assessed. The purpose of this communication is to record the scale insects and whiteflies (Hemiptera: Coccoidea and Aleyrodoidea) found in Bedfordshire (Watsonian Vice County 30), based primarily on samples collected by the author and unpublished records obtained from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). The latter records are mostly based on samples submitted by RHS members to the RHS Advisory Services for identification. This group is namely represented in the museum by the whitefl y collection of Jiří Zahradník and the scale insect collections of Jiří Zahradník and Josef Řeháček, while the psyllid material was mostly collected by Jiří Dlabola and other workers of the department and identifi ed by Marianna M. Loginova, Daniel Burckhardt and Pavel Lauterer (material from the expeditions of the National Museum to Iran in 1970s is particularly numerous and scientifi cally valuable). We list the types of 36 taxa (3 in Aleyrodomorpha, 3 in Coccomorpha, and 30 in Psyllomorpha), including holotypes or syntypes of 14 taxa (3 in Aleyrodomorpha, 2 in Coccomorpha, and 9 in Psyllomorpha). This paper presents the results of a zoogeographical analysis of the scale insects from the following countries: Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. The number of species collected so far is 92 in 49 genera. The fauna is divided into the following zoogeographical groups: Palearctic, 56.5%, Holarctic, 18.5%, species from 2–3 zoogeographic regions, 10.9%. and Cosmopolitan, 14.1%. ABSTRACT The males of 23 species (representing 19 genera) of the family Coccidae have been described and illus- trated in detail and a general account of the external morphology of male Coccidae is given. A number of structures present in other male Coccoidea but not hitherto observed in the Coccidae have been recorded. The relationships of the lecanoid type of male with the margaroid and diaspidoid types have been discussed and the males of two families of the lecanoid type (Coccidae and Pseudococcidae) have been compared with each other. Within the Coccidae the males were often found to reveal different relationships from the female and a classification is suggested which differs from the classifications based on female characters. The results of this study is in accor- dance with recent discoveries that the characters of the male are valid at all taxonomic levels, including genera and species. Of this group, 47 species are alien introduced species and live only indoors, and one species, Pulvinaria floccifera (Westwood), develops both indoors and outdoors.
