Within the church we remember a saint on most days of the year. There are 4 particular saints whom we remember in October that you might have heard of:- 4 Oct – Francis of Assisi, the founder of the Franciscans 6 Oct – William Tyndale, who translated the Bible into English for the first time 15 Oct – Teresa of Avila, a Carmelite nun whose writings include a prayer/poem you may be familiar with - Christ has no body but yours, no hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes with which he looks Compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. 18 Oct – Luke, the evangelist and who is believed to have written the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. The Bible tells us that saints are not just those holy people in history, but people who are living now who worship and serve God as revealed through Jesus Christ. I wonder if there are any saints living in your house. Best wishes Gale ——————oOo—————— Garden Bin Collections Wiltshire Council now allocate collection dates to specific addresses. What a Lovely War” World War I gets the musical treatment in a series of song-and-dance vignettes. Throughout it follows the Smith family, stand-ins for the British working class, who initially view the war with sunny optimism. But after the Smith boys, Jack (Malcolm McFee), Freddie, Harry (Maurice Roëves) and George (Paul Shelley), witness the reality of trench warfare, their illusions are shattered, and the best they can hope for is survival. Tuesday 23rd “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” In 1946 a London-based writer begins exchanging letters with residents on the island of Guernsey, which was German-occupied during WWII. Feeling compelled to visit the island, she starts to get a picture of what it was like during the occupation. Due to wear and tear of the electrics in the car park and dam- age done over the years, the Village Hall needs to fund- raise! We plan to ensure that the underground cabling is fit for purpose and install drive-over LED units, which will be more cost effective and which will give out much more light, making the car park safer for all users. The cost is estimated to be £5,000 to £6,000 and whilst some of that will come from grants, we need your help! If you have any ideas for fundraising, please contact: the Chairman on 01980 670501 or [email protected]. ***The first fundraising event is a Bridge Drive on 14th November*** Full details are on page 22 Wishing Clare Burge Sending Pat Robinson our a speedy recovery very best wishes on her after her accident road to recovery 7 www.enfordnewsletter.org October 2018 Enford Camera Club Enford Camera Club is meeting on th Thursday 4 October at 8pm in Enford Village Hall *We will be holding our AGM and discussing our plans for the year.
