Church Survey

“A huge thank you to all those participated in the Church & Churchyard Survey which closed on 14th May. We had nearly 70 valuable responses from both village communities. We would like to take the time to analyse your responses, reflect on your suggestions and share proposed actions in the autumn.

In the meantime, please enjoy our beautiful churches and churchyards over the summer.

A word from Gale Hunt our Team Vicar:

I wonder what you think of when June comes around. Perhaps it’s a sporting event like Wimbledon or perhaps the Trooping of the Colour or maybe it’s Strawberries and Cream that comes to mind! Every day seems a special day for something somewhere in the world. But here in the UK in June we have a number of designated weeks to particularly remember and thank certain groups of people: 1 – 6 June is Volunteers’ week 7 – 13 June is Carers’ week 7-12 June is National Intensive Care week 17 – 22 is Neighbours’ week These are all about relationships and helping others. They remind me that when Jesus was asked which were the greatest commandments he replied, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ (Matthew 22: 37-39) As we emerge from the pandemic, thank you to those who continued to volunteer, continued to care and to be good neighbours. By the way, did you know that June 29 is Camera Day? Don’t forget at this year’s fete we have a photographic competition, so why not take part.

Best wishes Gale *************************** MacMillan Cancer Support Golf Challenge

Alan, Jake, Ian and Graham will be participating in this event in June by playing 72 holes / 4 rounds of golf at Upavon Golf Club in a single day raising money for the charity. To support the boys in this challenge there will be a pop-up fundraiser (COVID conscious) at The Post House, High Street, Netheravon on Tuesday 8th June between 2-4 pm. There will be cakes, a raffle and good bric-a-brac on sale. If you would like to donate to the challenge you can do so at www.longestdaygolf.macmillan.org.uk and search for The Upavon Pterodactyls in the donate section of the website. Thank you and look forward to seeing you on the day. Alan and Sarah

NETHERAVON SCHOOL GARDEN PROJECT

Red Kite Class (year 6) have been working hard in the garden weeding and planting lots of vegetables, fruits and flowers. We have been redoing our raised beds and sorting out different vegetable and fruit seeds ready for planting. We have been planting tomatoes, lettuce and making sweet pea teepees. We’ve been working long hours digging up big chunks of weeds as the garden was quite over grown and needed a lot of work before we could begin to plant anything.

During the first two weeks, we took out all of the old vegetables from previous years, mouldy carrots, wrinkly potatoes and overgrown mint. Our tiring teams have been working really hard getting different sized stones out of the raised beds to make it look presentable and beautiful!

We have scratches, blisters, aching bones and bumps but we are all enjoying our days out in the garden and being in the fresh air!

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of the generous people in our wonderful village who have donated tools, plants, gloves, canes, compost, seeds and money so we can buy more things. We have to say a special thank you to Dot who has been gathering supplies and supporting our project. We are so proud to be at the heart of this lovely community.

Many thanks from Mia and Hannah on behalf of the whole of the Red Kite Class.

7 NETHERAVON PARISH COUNCIL

ANNUAL PARISH MEETING The Annual Parish Meeting was well attended with representatives of Village Organisations giving reports. The first report was the Parish Council Annual Report from retiring Chairman, Andy Linscer, read out by the Vice-Chairman, Cllr. David Burke. This was followed by reports by All Saints Church, the Day Centre, Phoenix Hall, All Saints School, Netheravon Wanderers FC, EnfordAV Youth Club, History website, Jubilee Committee, Avon Valley Rights of Way Group, Cheerful Cuppa and the Coffee Shop. All the reports will appear in full in the Minutes of the Meeting which will be put on the website. www.netheravonparishcouncil.co.uk ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Election of Chairman and Vice Chairman Cllr. David Burke was elected as Chairman of the Netheravon Parish Council for the year 2021/22 with Cllr. Richie Ayling as Vice-Chairman. Accounts 1. The Council approved the Annual Governance Statement and the End of Year Accounts which will now be sent to the External Auditors. 2. It was agreed to spend £15 per tub on the large village tubs. Cemetery Cllr. Maureen Mitchell reported that the saplings planted round the perimeter of the Cemetery are growing well. There are a few gaps which will be filled with the spare saplings. Corfe BMX Track It was reported that some of the hedge has been removed so that riders can bypass the kissing gate. Cllr. Richie Ayling agreed to talk to the young people and find a solution. At weekends it is very busy at the Corfe with people coming from other villages to enjoy the track. This causes problems with parking as the road is very narrow at this point. The Police will be asked to keep a check on this. Committees It was agreed that the Committees should be as follows:
