Selangor Sultan, Tengku Permaisuri Launch 'Stray Free Selangor - The Humane And Compassionate Way' Campaign SHAH ALAM, March 23 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin today launched the 'Stray Free Selangor (SFS) - The Humane and Compassionate Way' campaign. Joining them in launching the campaign was the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah. Also present was Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali. Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin is the royal patron of the campaign, which is organised by the Selangor Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The SFS campaign focuses on educating the public on humane and compassionate way of treating stray animals, as well as to encourage all quarters to work together to spay or neuter stray animals and provide shelter for them. Selangor SPCA patron Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the campaign, the first to be organised by a non-governmental organisation in the country, aimed to control the stray population. "I have discussed with the Menteri Besar and he agreed to arrange a meeting with all local government authorities in Selangor to provide explanation on this programme and the importance of complying with the Animal Welfare Act 2015," he told reporters here today. Meanwhile, Selangor SPCA chairman Christine Chin said the campaign was organised to work towards a radical change for the creation of society that loved stray animals. Sultan Sallehuddin installed as 29th Sultan of Kedah BERNAMA 22/10/2018 ALOR SETAR, Oct 22 (Bernama) – Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah was today installed as the 29th Sultan of Kedah in a ceremony steeped in tradition at the Balairung Seri (Throne Room) of Istana Anak Bukit here. Following the installation, His Royal Highness will henceforth be addressed as ‘Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah’. The installation was held in the full tradition and custom of the Kedah Malay Sultanate, a historic ceremony considering that the last installation was held almost six decades ago, in 1959, when Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah ascended the Kedah throne. He said the political landscape today should be based on real understanding, that a government should strive to achieve excellent governance for the development of the state and people. "I wish to state that politics is not simply to hunt for power. "It is unfortunate that politics today is tainted with hatred, anger, lies, misunderstanding between one another and racial intolerance," he said when opening the Fifth Session of the 13th Selangor State Legislative Assembly, here, today. 13/12/2003 Cool, calm and considerate Annie Freeda Cruez HE is forgiving but not to those who keep defying his orders and directives. He is stern when the situation warrants it and this was seen many an occasion during his two-year reign as the Sultan of Selangor. Recently, the Sultan threatened to revoke the Justice of Peace appointments of those who still display the Selangor Council of Justice of the Peace emblem on their vehicles. The directive to members of the council to remove the `JP' emblem from their vehicles came about last December after police and the Road Transport Department were tipped off that some members of the public had been displaying such emblems on their vehicles and abusing the authority that comes with it. Sultan Sharafuddin had himself come across vehicles displaying the JP emblem in the car parks at the Concorde Hotel and Mandarin Oriental in Kuala Lumpur. He is also a Ruler who never hesitates to revoke the Datukship of people who had abused their positions or involved themselves in illegal and vice activities. An example was when on Nov 27 last year, he revoked the Datukship of businessmen Tan Hok Low and Robert Chan Wai Ing after they were found to have abused their positions. He had warned all State title-holders that he would not hesitate to revoke titles if they were found to have abused their positions for gain. While being stern and firm, he also has the welfare of the people at heart. It was he who initiated that all JPs in Selangor must attend an induction course preparing them to assume quasijudicial roles.
