HEAVEN LAST SATURDAY was very much consumed with a very gay and merry Christmas spirit, as Leona Lewis took to the stage in the twilight hours between the last day of November and the first day of the much loved December month; all knee high black suede boots and a mini-dress designed to outdo a Christmas bauble for sparkle! Before her particular brand of Christmas cheer however, the boys bustling under the main floor’s mistletoe were roused by a recent ghost of X Factor past; the indomitable Hannah Barrett! Though looking a little more Halloween than ‘Deck- The-Halls-In-Holly’, slightly overwhelming her endearingly cute features in a fierce black rubber-like ensemble - chunky belt and combat trainers, Barrett’s belting numbers certainly would have echoed up around the North Pole; and her enthusiastic onlookers expected no less! In true X(mas) Factor form, Barrett broke the sound barrier for her swan- song and was off-stage into the waiting arms of the Rough Copy boys before you could say ‘sleigh bells’! So we come back to Leona, who’s back herself with ‘Christmas, With Love’ a seasonal album with her spin on evergreen crimbo classics, with a few of her own presented for good measure. In a set complete with two mini-dress sporting backing singers, and some chest-baring backing dancers for effect, Leona reminded us why 7 years ago already, no one was more deserving to join the roster of X Factor royalty! With an unforgettable hit like ‘Bleeding Love’ to kick off the set, Lewis continued to pull timeless tracks like ‘Well I Wish It Could Be Christmas’ and ‘Walking In A Winter Wonderland’ from her arsenal. More recent dance anthems like ‘Collide’ went down amongst the boys as well as mince pies, too! So, like all good things, the show came to an end - and presented with her miniature soft toy reindeer by Jeremy Joseph, Leona rode off into the snow- dusted distance of stage right. THE IRREVERENT PONYSTEP magazine launched its Christmas call to arms for the style conscious and the crazy- makers on Saturday 30th, and where better than the nightclubbing ‘Oz’ of the city’s East? The dark walls of East Bloc once again had the outrageous open-secrets of another hedonistic affair to forever conceal between them, with the usual dedicated Saturday party crowd - and a few people off the pages of a magazine - mixing with enough friction to ensure that seasonal sparks were bound to ﬂy. Spinning a healthy selection of house and disco fusions were the stellar line up of DJs, amongst which can be counted Dave Kendrick, Jerry Bouthier, Nathan Gregory Wilkins, Cozette McCreery, Jack Sunnucks and Jonbenet Blonde! Princess Julia hosted the whole affair, ensuring that the men gathered engaged those high ponies in dance action, and never missed a step to a very demanding slew of sets. What more is there to say, East Bloc is nigh on notorious for a Midas touch when it comes to hosting events with the kind of atmosphere that delivers.

SOHO’S HOTTEST CORNER just got a lil’ hotter with an appearance by his Highness Prince George. No, not that spoiled brat, the REAL one – none other than Boy George himself graced the decks at Rupert Street for a night of recognizable house disco beats fused with electro rhythms. We were welcomed at the door with a grin and a porn star martini by the charming muscular duet of Jon and Kael, partners who’ve become club ambassadors in their black bow ties and pearly whites meeting and greeting the punters at the door adding an extra bit of sexy to the night, which included a memorable set by DJ Rich B keeping the music flowing after Boy George. SEEING AS IT WAS WORLD AIDS DAY, Ku Bar did their bit by throwing a fund- raising auction. But this wasn’t just any auction, this was a half-naked homo auction! The bar had been decked out in giant red ribbons while Vicki Vivacious ﬂogged off the bar boys for a pretty penny. And anyone who thought the topless totty were cheap was proved wrong after one of them sold for over £700 (and that’s just a date, we don’t even geta fraction of that for a bumming on Grindr). The auctioneer they’d hired was ever the professional, demanding the boys remove articles of clothing and asking whether they were “top or bottom” – he certainly knew how to get those wallets out. They also sold a weekend in Paris and a tour of Downton Abbey, raising over £11,000 so far, with another event timed for Ku’s massive 18th Birthday party this Friday 6th December! WHAT BETTER WAY to help raise money for a number of HIV-focused charities than to head into the city’s gay village and get totally legless? Whoever said “charity starts at home” was just doing it wrong. We started our bar crawl (and yes, we were crawling by the end of it) at G-A-Y Bar where a rapid testing station had set up camp outside and people were encouraged to know their status. The idea being that if everybody gets tested, we can help stop spreading the virus by unknowingly passing it on. And if that wasn’t encouragement itself, they also sweetened the deal with a £1,000 prize for one of the lucky people tested. It must have been some incentive because ﬂocks of boys came and got tested throughout the day; in fact, we hadn’t seen this many gays in a portamobile since Matt Lucas went to Mardi Gras in a winnebago. Anyway, what’s a little pain for a good cause? Most gays get bigger pricks on the weekend. Oh, and speaking of pricks we were glad to see that they had boycotted screening James Arthur on X Factor, too! And what with raising a total of over £10,000 we take our hats off to G-A-Y for raising a whopping £230,343.56 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation to date!

He even told us he’d be making a size- able donation himself; can one donate attitude? Legendary status? Or collagen? Regardless, the atmosphere in Comptons is always so encapsulating that we automatically swap our spirits for ciders and our voices go down an octave. As usual Fat Tony’s music was on point so there was no danger of us going home anytime soon - well, not when all of our drinking was helping charities such as GMFA and The Food Chain. Helping others (through drinking) just came so naturally; and we’re sure if Mother Theresa could have helped people by pounding shots of Tequila, she would have been there. The entire pub was in good spirits, and after a stag- gering night, stagger home is exactly what we did (via McDonalds, obviously).obviously).
