Receiving a warm welcome is an important requirement for visitors to any country – but for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, this simple gesture of hospitality is even more crucial. Britain welcomes every letter of the acronym LGBT along with everyone else, which is why it’s a favourite destination for visitors of all ages, ethnicities and sexual orientations. According to LGBT2020, the world’s largest LGBT market A kiss at World Pride, which held in London in research programme, Britain ranks #4 in a list of top 2012 countries for LGBT travel in 2015, with London being the world’s #7 intended destination for LGBT visitors. Within Europe, London is #2 and Edinburgh is #10 – Spain is the only other country with two cities making this top ten. The marketing solutions agency behind this research, Out Now Consulting also indicate that global LGBT tourism is now valued in excess of USD$200 billion in annual spending. Meanwhile, the Rainbow Europe survey, carried out by the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA), named the UK the best out of 49 countries in terms of legislation and policies that have a “direct impact on the enjoyment of human rights by LGBTI people”. From their legendary 24-year weekly residency at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern to winning Olivier awards at the Barbican, they are purveyors of progressive working class entertainment who mix live art and light entertainment. Duckie combine vintage queer clubbing, LGBTQI+ heritage & social archeology & quirky performance art shows with a trio of socially engaged culture clubs: The Posh Club (our swanky showbiz palais for working class older folk, now regular in five locations), The Slaughterhouse Club (our wellbeing project with homeless Londoners struggling with booze, addiction and mental health issues), Duckie QTIPOC Creatives (our black and brown LGBTQI youth theatre, currently on a pause until we bag a funder). Duckie have long-term relationships with a few major venues including Barbican Centre, Rich Mix, Southbank Centre and the Brighton Dome, but we mostly put on our funny theatre events in pubs, nightclubs, church halls and community centres. They are a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England and revenue funded by the Big Lottery Fund. Duckie produce about 130 events and 130 workshops each year - mostly in London and the South East - and our annual audience is about 30,000 real life punters.     PRIDE IN LONDON CAB ANNUAL REPORT 2017 PRIDE IN LONDON INDEPENDENT COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD ANNUAL REPORT 2017 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 The Independent Community Advisory Board (CAB) submits its annual report reviewing the 2017 Pride in London (Pride) events. This report reflects issues raised at the CAB private review meeting held on 20 July 2017, which were based on community feedback and matters identified from CAB members’ own experiences. This year, for the first time, the CAB has also sought feedback from a range of major stakeholder organisations within the LGBT+ community. Their comments have been included, but anonymised. 1.2 The CAB is independent from the organisation of Pride. It advises the London LGBT+ Community Pride CIC (LLCP) Board and scrutinises their decisions. It provides guidance on inclusion, governance and other operational issues. Its membership is drawn from different strands of London’s LGBT+ communities with the hope of being broadly representative. SECTION 1 – WHY WE PUBLISH EQUALITY INFORMATION Birmingham City Council like other public authorities has for the last two years published equalities information, in demonstrating compliance with the Equality Act 2010 to give due regard to: - Eliminating discrimination, harassment and victimisation - Advancing equality of opportunity between persons who share a protected characteristic and those who do not share it - Fostering good relations between persons who share a protected characteristic and those who do not share it. In support of the general duty and to respond to the two requirements of the specific duties the council must: - Publish equality information - Set and publish equality objectives Publish equalities information – we publish equality information from each of our service directorates to demonstrate our understanding of how different people might be affected by our activities. This helps us to ensure that services are appropriate and accessible to all and meet different people’s needs. The information published includes customer profiling information; types of services being delivered, and consultation and engagement activities. The City Council takes account of the potential impacts of its policies and decisions on equalities, social cohesion and social inclusion, through a risk analysis process referred to as Equality Assessment (EA). This ensures that the potential implications of such proposals on those with the ‘protected characteristics’ covered under the Equality Act 2010 are considered. This has formed the basis of the Council’s programme of Equality Assessments, and supplements other information, which the council collects and publishes on a range of other areas.

They know her best and they, in addition to their hundreds of regulars, make her what she is. Happy Birthday old girl! Neil Hodgson, Landlord Comptons as a gay bar was evolving long before the 1980’s and there are reports of metropolitan police warnings about sodomy on the premises as early as the 1940’s. It was 1986 that bar was officially declared as gay. I’ve been fortunate enough to have been General Manager here for 17 of those 30 years. Together we have witnessed and survived a lot together, bombings, hate crimes, riots, the loss of some very special people and places over the years including an economic recession and the ongoing gentrification of Soho. Despite my keenness to dress up in uniforms I still only very much remain a caretaker of an institution that belongs to the people that support it also who have made it the solid institution it is today and still she continues to grow. Comptons to me is a real place and its people, it’s also my work and my home.

Porous: a. full of pores (lit. or fig.); hence of cogn. Porosity: porousness, ns. 1 Ancient Chinese scholars were fascinated with porous rocks that became known as “scholar rocks”. The more richly porous the structures were, balancing air with mass, the more valuable they became. “For the world of Chinese scholars stones has to be a source of inspiration, - mysteriously shrouded in feathery mist – to anyone with an interest in transparency, transformation, immateriality, dynamism, in spectacular surfaces, monoliths, or raw lumps of rock, in minimalist or archaic monuments”. (Ursprung, Phillip 2003: p 111.) Mine also is a fascination with both exoskeleton and its fleshy centre, as a model for the body and architectural minimums, and the idea of architecture being analogous to the mathematical model of the “Sierpensky sponge”. This is a theoretical cube which is infinitely porous and hence: “more than a surface, less than a volume….Its total volume approaches zero, while the total lateral surface of the hollowings infinitely grows.” (Ursprung, Phillip 2003: p 487.) This obsession with dissolving architecture runs hand in hand with the idea that art has a role to play in promoting the adaptive re-use of existing urban structure via new “parasitic forms”.
