Live Auction Closes at 09:00 PM Live Auction Closes at 09:00 PM Live Auction 41 1000 "B" Your Best! The students in Trista and Lorrie’s class have been working on grammar all year, inspiring this “B”eautiful creation! The students began their studies with nouns – what is a noun? A name of things! What are adjectives? A way to describe the nouns (things). What are adjectives that can describe a person? Happy, sad, helpful, friendly, etc. After careful thought and reflection, each student found the perfect word to describe the person we should all inspire to “B”. Every child watercolored paper from which they made “B”s, colorful flourishes, and designs of their choosing. The students embossed their background papers with dots, stripes, swirls and then hand wrote their exceptional adjectives. Facilities Manager Gerard, and Trista’s hubby (now Montessori dad to Fynn!), Josh , pulled it all together by working with the children to design this custom wall collage. You will “B” happy to have this hanging in your home! Donated By: Trista and Lorrie's Class Value: Priceless Opening Bid: 1001 Seasons of Life The children in Ashley and Kim's class have incorporated many aspects of their learning into this "Seasons of Life" masterpiece! This stunning display follows a year in the life of an apple tree -- with a tree created for each season. The children applied their knowledge of the parts of the tree, study of the botany cabinet (different leaf shapes) and gained a better understanding of the visual changes that occur each season (particularly in New England). Therefore, this project became an organic culmination of the classroom materials and curriculum. In addition to the foundation of this process, we have also placed importance and focus on our school's 50th Anniversary. In three pictures, the children have carefully printed fifty leaves on (or around!) each tree, and included fifty snowflakes in the winter scene (that's a lot of counting!) This is a mixed-media project that has allowed the children to explore and refine many different art mediums. Then come for an exclusive tour behind the scenes of a Hollywood film animation studio located right here in Fairfield county. Come visit 20th Century Fox's Blue Sky Studios -- creators of the Ice Age movies, Horton Hears a Who, Epic, Rio, and more -- with Character Technical Director Ian Etra (Montessori dad to Cyrus and Duncan). You'll see firsthand everything that goes into making a feature-length computer animated film -- from paper sketches and sculptures of character designs, to storyboarding, modeling, set design, lighting and animation. Check out animation artists in their natural habitats, from action-figure filled cubicles to over-the-top custom-built movie set (and movie theater) replicas. You'll get to see unreleased artwork and shots in progress that will never be available to the general public, from our most recent Rio 2 (2014), as well as our upcoming features Peanuts (2015), Ice Age 5 (2016) and more. There's also a gallery of original artwork from Charles Schultz, wacky caricatures drawn by Blue Sky artists (usually of other Blue Sky artists), and more! This custom-designed tour will satisfy your individual curiosity of the process of animating a movie. Jump on to a computer and pick a character to move around on screen, or see one of your favorite scenes built up layer-by-layer. We'll focus on your favorite movies and characters to organize your behind- the-scenes tour for you! And all auction winners will take home a special gift bag to remember their visit. All ages are welcome. A parent will need to accompany children under age ten, with a maximum of six participants total. Date and time to be determined with auction winner, with two weeks notice please, no later than December 1, 2014. Donated By: The Etra Family, Blue Sky Studios Value: Priceless Opening Bid: 1003 Everything Old is New Again Fifty years of The Montessori School. Today, we give you fifty antique wooden spindles. Some years ago, our late beloved Primary Directress Kristen Ruth and her students offered something similar to our Auction. Today, we offer our Elementary version in honor of Kristen and with Love. When Karin Salzmann became the Head of our beloved school nearly 50 years ago, she gifted our school with the logo of the sun. Today, we arrange our spindles in the shape of the sun in honor of Karin and with Love. The students of Elizabeth and Vicki's class wound embroidery floss that was hand- dyed in Paraguay onto these antique wooden spindles that still show the remnants of the first dyes that were applied to them. They've been arranged to represent the Montessori Color Wheel. The many colors of Us. Woven together. Everything Old Is New Again. Read throughout the year in Heather and Fabi's class, these Eric Carle classic books inspired the students to create their own colorful papers, on which they traced their hands and cut out the silhouettes. From the same handcrafted papers, the students also lovingly made hearts, free-form, no two alike! How many ways are there to make a heart? Endless, apparently! Together, the hearts were assembled into a collage on a 54" x 20" wood panel, custom built by our own Facilities Manager (and master woodworker) Gerard Bisceglie. The children enjoyed inspiration from this mini-art workshop led by our former Art Specialist and Design Guru (and alum mom!) Marissa Ferguson. And in Connecticut, the police can stop you for biking over 65 mph? And in Ohio (Lynn’s home state), it’s against the law to get a fish drunk?! The students of Meaghan and Lynn’s Lower Elementary class have been earnestly studying the flags of the United States, learning the likes of these tidbits of trivia and history. Starting with geography by learning each state on the map, they then learned the “50 States” song under the tutelage of Upper El students. Using the Montessori Flags, as well as the flag card work, the students traced each flag and collaboratively detailed and colored every flag – a fine group effort of fine motor coordination practice! Arranged in alphabetical order, this framed masterpiece is a great example of how fun 50 can be! Donated By: Meaghan and Lynn's Class Value: Priceless Opening Bid: 1007 TingaTinga Tanzania The Middle School Eighth Year students are proud to offer a TingaTinga painting to the auction.

YOUR O.A.T. ADVENTURE TRAVEL PLANNING GUIDE® New! Under the Midnight Sun: Sami Lapland, Norway & the Arctic Circle 2021 Small Groups: 8-16 travelers—guaranteed! (average of 13) Overseas Adventure Travel ® The Leader in Personalized Small Group Adventures on the Road Less Traveled 1 Dear Traveler, At last, the world is opening up again for curious travel lovers like you and me. And the O.A.T. New! Under the Midnight Sun: Sami Lapland, Norway & the Arctic Circle itinerary you’ve expressed interest in will be a wonderful way to resume the discoveries that bring us so much joy. You might soon be enjoying standout moments like these: There was something intangibly magical about Lapland. Maybe it was the midnight sun, the endless rugged tundra, or the welcoming nature of the Sami people. All I know is that there was a true sense of Arctic magic everywhere I went, especially when I met an indigenous Sami family on their reindeer farm. As we explored the farm, they introduced me to their way of life and traditions dating back thousands of years. I was saddened to hear that their ancient culture is under threat from two forces: the construction of an Arctic Railway through Sami territory and Sami youth deviating from their traditional lifestyle. You’ll hear about these challenges as well when you meet with a Sami family on their reindeer farm. In the regions I travel to around the world, the stories of the people who live and work there are the most distinct and poignant experiences. You’ll meet with a local educator in Oslo to hear about July 22, 2011—the harrowing terrorist attack on this city—and their personal account of this day.
