After a 10 year education in chemical sciences, it is not easy to disengage from the scientific and rely on the senses to create a wine; however, Graziana quickly realized the necessity. A wine must be created in the vineyard, the only contribution a lab can have is to perfect any minor flaws. In addition to running two labs in Tuscany authorized by the Italian Ministry of Political Agriculture for certification of wines destined for export, Graziana has been a con- sultant for various throughout Italy. “To see the creation of a wine through to the end is like falling in love,” she says.

The Castello della Sala, a fundamental edifice of the Umbrian Middle Ages is, at the same time, an innovative estate: the old and the new which coexist in the name of quality. Aging takes place in small of French oak in the medieval cellars 30 meters (100 feet) below the castle, cellars which go back to fourteenth century and where time seems to have stood still; in the vineyards, however, experimentation goes constantly forward. Continually searching for margins for improvement, for wines constantly higher quality and greater subtlety, new cellars began to built in 2005, twenty years after the production of the first vintage of Cervaro.

This 100% chardonnay is produced from grapes grown in Umbria on the estate Castello della Sala, which the Antinori family purchased in 1940.

Puglia Puglia is “the heel” of the boot of peninsular Italy. It is bordered by both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, giving it one of the longest coastlines of any region in Italy. The flagship red grape of Puglia is Primitivo, a distant cousin of California’s grape. The wines made with Primitivo are luscious, heavy and definitely “food wines”.

Tormaresca is the expression of the above two souls. Character, personality and top quality are the characteristics that Puglia transmits to the native grape varieties. For this reason the Antinori family gave birth to Tormaresca in 1998 when they started investing in Puglia, considering it one of the most promising regions in Italy for the produc- tion of high quality wines with a strong territorial identity.

Masseria Maime stands in one of the most beautiful areas of Salento. Our estate covers 500 hectares and, apart from the 250 hectares cultivated with vineyards and the 85 hectares destined to olive yards, it runs along the Adriatic coast, creating a unique landscape of vineyards that are born in woods and pine forests and continue until the eye can reach, merging with the sea.

The Torcicoda is produced entirely from Primitivo grapes grown on the Masseria Maime estate, owned by Antinori in San Pietro Vernotico, Salento. Primitivo is a clonal relation to Americas Zinfandel and shares some of the same rich, ripe, elegant expression on the palate. Veneto The Veneto region is a gem of a region in the northeast corner of Italy. Bound on the west by Lake Garda, and on the north by the Veneto Dolomites, the landscape of the Veneto is rich and varied. The region is protected from the harsh northern European climate by the , the foothills of which form the Veneto’s northern extremes. These cooler climes are well-suited to white varieties like (the main grape for wines) while the warmer Adriatic coastal plains and river valleys are where the renowned , and Bardolino DOC reds are produced.

Chicco (one berry) d’ (of) Uva (grape) simply describes the character of this premium . While the taste is singular there could be up to six types of grapes blended to achieve this quality. Imagine Cabernet, Merlot, Carmenere, , , grapes grown in North Italy, along the coast of Lake Garda, where the micro climate brings these grapes to full maturity. These grapes are vinified separately, by an Italian winemaker trained in Australia, barrel aged and blended by an American pallet. Trentino – Alto Adige As the name suggests, the Trentino–Alto Adige is comprised of two separate areas. Trento refers to the southern part of the region and its capital is Trentino. The name Alto Adige identifies the northern territory of the region that includes the higher part of the Adige River. The region follows the Adige River along its north-south course down from the Alps towards the plains, winding past various valleys and lakes. Across its 40-mile length, the region straddles the 46th northern parallel and the valley floor falls from 700ft to 400ft above sea-level. Given Trentino’s high altitude, northern latitude and alpine scenery, it comes as a surprise to many to find that the provincial capital Trento is one of Italy’s warmest cities in summer. The valley floor here heats up rapidly on summer mornings, regularly lifting July temperatures to 104F.

Although more red wines are produced in this area than white wines, the red are consumed locally and most of the whites are exported.
