Stap in en ga mee met deze historische reis in de Oad Liberation bus in dit jaar van 70 jaar Bevrijding. Ervaar de route die is afgelegd door onze bevrijders. Van het jaarlijkse Airborne evenement op de Ginkelse Heide tot aan de stranden van Normandië. Tijdens deze unieke reis bezoekt u een groot aantal plaatsen, die een rol hebben gespeeld in de bevrijding van Europa. Oad is officieel partner van de Liberation Route Europe. DAG TOT DAG Zaterdag Vandaag wordt Operation Market Garden herdacht. Vanaf de opstapplaatsen Goor, Apeldoorn, Arnhem en Den Bosch rijden we naar de Ginkelse Heide. Vanaf 10.00 worden parachutisten uit diverse landen gedropt boven de Ginkelse heide als eerbetoon aan de geallieerde landingen in 1944. U maakt de festiviteiten mee. In de loop van de dag vertrekken we naar het overnachtingshotel. Zondag In Groesbeek bezoeken we het Bevrijdingsmuseum. Vanaf Groesbeek volgen we de Hell’s Way naar Eindhoven via Grave. Onderweg naar de Belgische Ardennen brengen we een bezoek aan de Amerikaanse begraafplaats in het Limburgse Margraten. In Bastogne bezoeken het nieuwe Bastogne Oorlogsmuseum en het Mardasson Monument. Bij Foy ziet u de restanten van de schuttersputjes, de ‘foxholes’. We overnachten in de omgeving van Bastogne. (ca. 265 km) Maandag Met een stop in Reims, waar we het voormalige hoofdkwartier van generaal Eisenhower bezoeken rijden we naar Parijs. De bevrijding van Parijs in augustus 1944 betekende het einde van operation Overlord. U krijgt een stadsrondrit aangeboden waarbij u kennis maakt met de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden van Parijs. We overnachten in Parijs. (ca. 325 km) Dinsdag Vanuit Parijs rijden we naar Falaise, niet alleen bekend vanwege het gelijknamige middeleeuwse kasteel maar ook het toneel van één van de beslissende veldslagen tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. In de middag arriveren we in Caen, waar we het museum Memorial bezoeken. We verblijven 2 nachten in Caen. (ca. 255 km) Woensdag ‘The Longest Day’. We rijden eerst naar Pegasus Bridge, één van de belangrijkste in te nemen doelen door de Britse 6e Luchtlandingsdivisie. We vervolgen onze tocht naar Juno Beach, Hier landden zowel Britse als Canadese soldaten. Ook bezoeken we Arromanches, waar we de overblijfselen van de kunstmatige haven nog in de oceaan zien liggen. De volgende stop is Omaha Beach. Dit was tijdens D-Day het strand waar de meeste verliezen geleden werden. Na het indrukwekkende bezoek aan Omaha Beach vervolgen we onze tocht naar Pointe du Hoc. Op 6 juni 1944 was Pointe du Hoc een doelwit van de geallieerden, om de bedreigde stranden vrij te krijgen van het dreigende geschut van de scheepskanonnen. We sluiten deze dag vol indrukken af met een bezoek aan de begraafplaats La Cambe.     MEDIA RELEASE INTERNATIONAL LAUNCH EVENT OF THE LIBERATION ROUTE EUROPE HIKING TRAILS A unique international trail initiative to keep the memory of WWII alive Brussels, 15 July 2021 – The LRE Foundation is happy to announce the next evolution of the Liberation Route Europe, a certified Council of Europe Cultural Route connecting places and people that mark Europe’s liberation from occupation during World War II. The launch event will take place on 22 July at 3 pm CEST when the Foundation will present the brand new European-wide system of hiking trails along the Liberation Route Europe. Developed in collaboration with hiking associations across Europe, the new hiking trails link museums, memorials, cemeteries and historical sites along the Allied Forces’ advance in the last phase of WWII and aim to stretch for 10.000 km. The hiking experience is accompanied by the new Liberation Route Europe website and travel planner that allows the public to read and listen to many stories about WWII and plan their journey along the hiking trails. Rémi Praud, Managing Director of the LRE Foundation: “We are excited to launch this new system of hiking trails connecting regions, sites and historical places across Europe. These trails are a new meaningful, and sustainable way to experience the Liberation Route Europe. This is only the beginning. Normandy will bear the scars of this moment in history for ever, and every year we remember and pay tribute to the veterans from America, Britain, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, Holland, Norway, Poland, Australia, France and to their brothers in arms, to those many heroes who lost their lives here during that summer of 1944, and are at rest in the cemeteries to be found throughout the area.
