Entrepreneur Julius Tafel established his iron works here in 1875 next door to Cramer-Klett, which later became MAN, the largest industrial company in Nuremberg in 1900. Tafel developed a process for recycling scrap iron and became one of the largest suppliers in the Nuremberg iron processing industry. The hall of the screw factory dates back to the 1920s and is all that remains of the vast industrial complex: In the early 1970s, the entire German iron and steel industry suffered a crisis, and the company was unable to survive, in spite of costly modernization work.

Tiger 90, high performance 350 3TA introduced, similar to T100S/S. All 650s, (including Bonnies, 1963 Tbirds, TR6, Trophy) are built with a new unit construction engine/gear box. Tina T10, 100cc scooter with automatic transmission introduced (designed by Turner). The US-only TR6SC, a pure desert racer with straight pipes, was produced: basically a single-carb T120, very fast. 650s all get new coil ignition. First year for T120 unit construction models. The Bonnie undergoes numerous and significant upgrades to its engine, gearbox, transmission and frame (after toying with a duplex design, Triumph instead made a larger diameter downtube to combat wobble and weave). A special TT model (T120C/TT) is produced until 1967 for the USA, due to the encouragement of Bill Johnson, of Johnson Motors ("Jo-Mo"). This is a stripped-down racing model, only made until 1966 for the US market. Two US dealers on a camping trip come up with the idea for the T20M Mountain Cub, combining Tiger Cub, Sports Cub and trials Cub parts. First sold in USA in 1964, proves very successful. BSA closes the Ariel factory at Selly Oak. The last Ariels in production, the Leader and Arrow, are manufactured at BSA's factory in Small Heath until 1965. Norton Atlas released. AMC acquires James. Norman ceases production.

VICTORIA 1960 “VICKY SUPERLUXUS” 47 CC TS 2901 SOLD Victoria ca. 1960 “Vicky Superluxus” 47 cc two stroke frame # SL 45753 The company started, like most motorcycle manufacturers, with bicycles. Founders Max Frankenburger and Max Ottenstein formed their company ‘Frankenburger und Ottenstein Nürnberg ’ in 1886 in Nuremberg. By 1888 they had manufactured 1000 Victoria bicycles and in 1895 the name became ‘Victoria Fahrradwerke AG,’ abbreviated to ‘Victoria Werke AG’ in 1899. The first motorcycles were produced in 1901. The ancient town of Nuremberg was a centre of technology comparable with Coventry. Once famous V.O.F. Yesterdays - www.yesterdays.nl - offi[email protected] - +31 495 54 60 54 | Page: 1 German motorcycle manufacturers like Ardie, Triumph, Hecker, Hercules and Mars hailed from that city. During World War II, Victoria supplied the German military with medium-capacity four-stroke machines. In April 1945 the Victoria works were almost totally destroyed. In 1947 the reconstruction of the bombed out factory commenced and soon the production lines were again humming. From the early fifties the motorcycle range was expanded with a series of “Vicky” mopeds, that proved to be very successful. The Vicky was developed through the fifties and the last model to be produced was also the most luxurious and the best: the “Superluxus”. The design shows a fabulous attention to detail and the machine was meant to be comfortable for two persons. Or three actually: note the integrated child’s seat that was an original option of many Victoria mopeds. This Superluxus has been restored and is in excellent shape. MORE INFORMATION V.O.F.

  • Das Truppenfahrrad
Das Truppenfahrrad The German Army Bicycle 1939 – 1945 by Val Czerny 2 “Das Truppenfahrrad” – The German Army Bicycle 1939-1945 Organisational History Contrary to popular belief the German Army was not fully motorised at the outbreak of war. The Treaty of Versailles had severely limited the Army’s resources, especially within motorisation. A large part of the Infantry were required to move on foot and therefore it seemed logical to utilise non-motorised forms of transport such as horses and bicycles. These forms of transport continued throughout the war and towards the end the reduced manufacture of motorised vehicles and lack of fuel resources forced OKW (Oberkommando der Wermacht – The High Command of the Armed Forces) to utilise more non- motorised forms of transport. In 1943 the production of bicycles was estimated at 1.2 million. Although the exact number is not known, the largest part of this production was initiated by military demands. All units of Infantry and even motorised divisions included bicycles in their standard equipment. The reorganisation of the army in the mid 1930’s stated that the first battalion of each infantry regiment should be equipped with bicycles and throughout the war, in the majority of infantry regiments, this was the case. Each regiment had a reconnaissance section, which were either on horseback or bicycles (Regiment Radfahrer / Reiterzug) or sometimes a combination of the two. The HQ staff of infantry regiments were issued five bicycles, as were pioneer battalions. Later in the war all units had bicycles issued, especially sections whose role was as despatch riders.
