Excellence ... Integrity ... Team Spirit 2 Our global commitment to you Oerlikon Drive Systems Segment designs and manufactures gears, drives, transmissions and assemblies for the world’s leading equipment manufacturers – agricultural, construction, energy, mining, transport, specialty industrial and high performance automobiles. To provide local support for the global demand these companies have for world-class engineered drives, we are making major investments in North America, Europe, China and India. Drive Systems products are under the Oerlikon Fairfield and Oerlikon Graziano brands in equipment of all types – tractors, bulldozers, pavers, haul trucks, augers, man lifts, work boats, cranes, locomotives, buses, golf cars, electric and hybrid vehicles, supercars and more – transferring power in hundreds of applications. Our Drive Systems Segment has more than 90 years experience in developing innovative power transmission solutions for electric, mechanical and hydraulic drive applications. With manufacturing locations in key markets and more than 5,000 employees worldwide, we offer the resources you need to bring your challenging drive concept to a production reality. The four Drive Systems business units – Americas, EMEAR, China and India – all answer to a singular standard: Excellence. Excellence in product. Excellence in performance. Excellence in customer support. 3 Engineering Our Drive Systems Segment employs more than 100 engineers worldwide engaged in design, applications development, product testing and validation. Recruited from top universities, they enter our engineering culture which encourages talented individuals to develop their skillsets and to become experts in diverse application areas from drive requirements for electric passenger vehicles to marine jack-up systems. We have been awarded hundreds of patents worldwide for advances such as carbon fiber synchronisers, electronic shifting controls and heat dissipation for complex mechanical assemblies. Our engineers are experts with drive systems, whether these are hydraulically, mechanically or electrically driven. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) rely on our expertise to solve complex engineering challenges, adding value and competitive advantage to their latest equipment ideas. 4 Innovation fuels our drive These are the kinds of engineering solutions you can expect from our Drive Systems Segment • Inspired. We introduced electric drives to the aerial platform industry more than 20 years ago, setting new standards for reliability, efficiency and ease of maintenance. • Advanced. Our synchroniser and CVT technology enables vehicle manufacturers to build next generation equipment offering fuel savings up to 30%. • Responsive. Our transmissions deliver record setting shifting speeds while harnessing the power of the world’s most exotic supercars. • Innovative. Our planetary drives for compact track loaders help reduce emissions while improving vehicle performance. • Leading Edge. Our multi-speed electric drivelines help manufacturers produce vehicles that accelerate faster, perform better on grades and offer extended range. 5 Manufacturing We begin with gears. To develop systems that transfer power under demanding conditions, you need the capability and experience to produce world-class gears. We have been manufacturing gears of all types and sizes for more than 90 years – spur, helical, bevel, Zerol® and Hypoid. We produce gears from 12 mm diameters used in high performance automotive transmissions to two meter diameter gears which harness the power of wind turbines. Locations Our manufacturing plants are strategically located to serve our customers’ primary markets. So where they grow, we go. Our North American facility (Lafayette, Indiana) is one of the largest integrated gear manufacturing operations in the world, encompassing 14 acres of advanced machine tools within a single structure. Our manufacturing plants in Europe, India and China provide the global reach to support production where our clients need us. And in each location, we are investing millions to put in place new capabilities to support our customers’ growth plans. 6 Flexible. Responsive. Precise. Local. Machining Processes Each manufacturing center is ISO certified and utilizes Statistical Process Controls (SPC) to produce world-class gears and drives to the highest AGMA, DIN and SAE specifications. A variety of processes are used to achieve the best results – grinding, gashing, hobbing, shaping, shaving, broaching, milling or rolling. If required, we can make gear modifications down to 2/100 the diameter of a human hair. We have the machining capability to fulfill all our customers’ requirements for gears, shafts, splines, carriers and housings. Heat Treating Our regional manufacturing centers have internal Testing capabilities for processes including tempering, carburising, We have one of the largest installed bases of nitriding, press quenching, induction hardening, thermal CMM gear checking equipment in the industry. deburring, shot peening and crack detection. Internal Each manufacturing center has a fully capabilities in these areas ensure that features critical to equipped laboratory. We check the gears and performance are achieved under our direct control. The dynamically test our assemblies to ensure result: quiet running gears with exceptional wear properties performance requirements are met. Performance and superior gear loading attributes. and reliability are engineered into every product we manufacture. Assembly & Fabrication We build to customer demand – limited edition transmissions for high performance supercars, hundreds of industrial cooling tower fan drives, thousands of electric golf cart transaxles and hundreds of thousands of synchronisers for agricultural tractors – every year. Plus axles, powershift units, swing drives, wheel drives, custom gearboxes and more! 7 Product Manufacturers specify our products for their engineering, reliability, durability and outstanding performance in the OEM markets we serve – construction, agriculture, specialty industrial, mining and energy, on and off-highway and rail. We have the capability to design complete driveline solutions – axles, transmissions, planetary drives, gears and components – for mechanically, hydraulically or electrically driven equipment. Gears & Shafts Our Drive Systems Segment is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of custom spur, helical, straight and spiral reduction components. We also have a worldwide reputation for crown wheels and pinions engineered for technically challenging applications. Shifting Solutions ™ – Synchronisers & Powershift Clutches We produce more than one million synchronisers a year. Most agricultural tractors built today use our technology to We test and develop complete powershift units for manufacturing technologies, such as electron beam 8 High performance for demanding applications Transmissions Supercar manufacturers – Aston Martin, Audi, Lamborghini, Maserati, McLaren – rely on our experience to design transmissions which harness the power of their extraordinary machines. Our multi-speed electric drivelines allow electric vehicle manufacturers to offer vehicles with better efficiency and increased range. Our CVT transmissions enable agricultural tractor manufacturers to boost performance and improve fuel economy. Planetary Drives Our Torque-Hub® range of planetary drives is one of the most recognised brands in the industry, delivering torque output for propulsion, rotational or lifting applications. Axles & Transaxles Our solutions for heavy-duty rigid and steerable axles are offered with a variety of brake options – caliper, drum and wet disk. These are used in a broad range of applications – wheel loaders, graders, articulated haul trucks, agricultural tractors, low-floor city buses, fork lifts and airport ground support equipment.
