WNC Policies and Procedures Manual Procedure: COMMUNICABLE DISEASE PLAN (Re: 9/3/2009) Policy No.: 11-2-2 Department: Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Contact: Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator Policy: This plan addresses communicable disease outbreaks and defines the steps that WNC will take in preparation for, and how the college will respond to a health related emergency, epidemic or pandemic. This document is consistent with other WNC emergency planning documents. This plan cites several different communicable diseases and is intended for use in all communicable disease emergencies. The severity of communicable diseases can vary greatly. Much of this plan is based on influenza that may be greater in severity than the H1N1 virus. The intent of this plan is to protect lives and effectively use available resources to maintain an appropriate level of college operations during instances of communicable disease emergencies. Most analyses of public radio listening examine the performance of individual stations within this large mix, the contributions of specific national programs, or aggregate numbers for the system as a whole. This report takes a different approach. Through an extensive, multi-year study of 228 stations that generate about 80% of public radio’s audience, we review patterns of listening to groups of stations categorized by the formats that they present. We find that stations that pursue different format strategies – news, classical, jazz, AAA, and the principal combinations of these – have experienced significantly different patterns of audience growth in recent years and important differences in key audience behaviors such as loyalty and time spent listening. This quantitative study complements qualitative research that the Station Resource Group, in partnership with Public Radio Program Directors, and others have pursued on the values and benefits listeners perceive in different formats and format combinations. Key findings of The Public Radio Format Study include: • In a time of relentless news cycles and a near abandonment of news by many commercial stations, public radio’s news and information stations have seen a 55% increase in their average audience from Spring 1999 to Fall 2004. -

(Lee Plemel, [email protected]) Staff Summary: The Redevelopment Authority annually funds arts and culture special events from a portion of the Revolving Fund. The Cultural Commission received a total of $33,000 in Special Event funding requests. A total of $25,000 has been allocated in the FY 2020 budget and an additional $1,315 is available from the prior year budget, for a total of $26,315 available for arts and culture special events. Application requests include: $4,500 for Wild Horse Productions' Disney's Frozen, Jr.; $5,000 for Brewery Art Center's Traditional Celtic Music Series; $3,500 for Proscenium Players' 2019-20 Season; $5,000 for Carson City Symphony's LatinXpressions Concert Series; $5,000 for Mile High Jazz Band's Carson City Music & Art Festival; $5,000 for Sierra Nevada Ballet's 12th Night- A Ballet Noir; and $5,000 for Pinkerton Ballet Theater's Nutcracker Ballet. NEVADA PUBLIC RADIO Local Content and Services Report 2017 1. Describe your overall goals and approach to address identified community issues, needs, and interests through your station’s vital local services, such as multiplatform long and short-form content, digital and in-person engagement, education services, community information, partnership support, and other activities, and audiences you reached or new audiences you engaged. Nevada Public Radio concluded its most recent three year plan on September 30th 2017. The three year plan is developed by staff with the input of the NVPR Board and Community Advisory Board. During the prior three years, we met several goals to increase the audience for our news content and local journalism. We equate increased audience reach and online engagement as meeting the needs of our local community. KNPR achieved an annual top 20 ranking out of 156 participants in the NPR “Spark” audience building project 2015, 2016 and 2017. The audience for our broadcast original journalism audience up 54% based on share for the hours where SoN airs; missed the overall cumulative audience total, but increased “P1/first choice” audience for NVPR up 28% exceeding our target. We acquired additional spectrum in Reno to bring NVPR signal to 93% of NV population and make our weekday news program KNPR’s State of Nevada truly statewide. During the prior three years, we doubled the non-white college educated audience in our Cume audience from 7 to 15% of that cohort. NVPR increased the percentage of audience under 40 from 18% up to 21.4%. Online/Digital audience up 48%, page views up 43% uniques in plan time period (compares favorably to NPR growth on the national level, and our internal goal of 30% growth). -
