In the wake of Assemblyman John Amodeo’s photo-finish loss to Democrat Vince Mazzeo, Amodeo’s former partner in the Assembly Vince Polistina publicly announced that he was seeking to unseat current Republican County Chairman Keith Davis. Polistina, who is universally liked and respected, sounded very diplomatic in making his announcement with Harry Hurley on WPG 1450 AM’s Hurley in The Morning, even complimenting Davis several times throughout the interview. Less than 24 hours later, Davis would call into the program, sounding anything but diplomatic, and took equal turns lambasting Polistina, Amodeo and even mixing it up with Hurley, who ultimately gave the outmatched Chairman better than he got. A few days later, it was John Amodeo’s turn, and he blasted Davis in a widely circulated e-mail, leaving little doubt that he was firmly aligned with Polistina and that there are two competing factions for control of the Atlantic County Republicans, those behind Egg Harbor Township Mayor and former State Senator James “Sonny” McCullough and those behind Atlantic County Executive Denny Levinson. Polistina and Amodeo are aligned with McCullough, while Davis is controlled, we mean aligned with Levinson. Look for this simmering feud to come to a head sometime in mid- June, with the winner inheriting a party with a propensity for infighting that would make the ladies on "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" blush. Stay tuned for more on this story as it develops …

If it were up to local restaurant enthusiast Ed Hitzel, Atlantic City Restaurant Week would be two weeks instead of one and would happen twice a year. Hitzel, the publisher of Ed Hitzel’s Restaurant Magazine, and who is also seen and heard on several local radio and television stations discussing the latest local restaurant news, recently told The Boardwalk Journal that this year’s Restaurant Week was such a success, that he received calls from individual interested in having the already expanded second week for 38 of the 83 participating restaurants morph into a third week. Hitzel and Palm GM Paul Sandler were recently quoted in a story written by The Boardwalk Journal that appeared on philly.com about the overwhelming success of Restaurant Week …

Internet gambling revenue is up in Atlantic City, but the city’s total casinos win remains down. Borgata, which leads the pack month after month as the city’s top earning casino, also holds that distinction with respect to online gambling, where it cornered 40% of the market share in February, according to an article written by Press reporter Jennifer Bogdan. Despite the slight increase in internet gambling revenue, online gaming has yet to hit its stride or put up the type of numbers the Atlantic City casino industry had hoped for, but then again, it’s only a few months old. The good news is, that even if internet gambling doesn’t catch fire, sports gambling is right around the corner to save the day … Wanna bet on that?
