Congratulations to the entire team for the hard work and for setting new benchmarks of annual performance in mines, power and EVENTS ferro chrome operations. Starting the year with extremely bad market conditions, we were lucky to see market recovery in the 2nd half of the year. Ferro Chrome industry will remain cyclical and we shall continue to be dependent on macro variables and overall economy. Having managed to operate optimally in past downturns, including the recent severe one ; we are confident to deal with market swings in the future. We are aiming for higher ferro chrome production and power generation in the new financial year. After successful completion of the 1st stope in Mahagiri underground mines, we are expecting ACHIEVEMENT permission shortly to continue the pioneering underground mining work in Sukinda . Our customers and stakeholders value consistency and standards across all our operations and business practices, which we shall strive to maintain. Building, CDR. The National Flag was unfurled by Mr B N Mohapatra, Sr VP, Head- PBU & EIC, Cdr. He received the Guard of Honour by the security personnel. At the Recreation Club,of Colony-2, the National Flag was hoisted by Mr R K Khuntia, oldest employee of PP(O) dept. It was followed by distribution of Sweets. THV : At Therubali the National flag was hoisted by Mr R N Praharaj, VP MFG (FA) in presence of senior executives and employees. Students from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, IMFAL Campus High School, IMFAL Campus U.P School & Therubali Industrial Training Centre participated in the celebration. Sweets were distributed to all employees and the students. SMC & MMC : At SMC/ MMC the National Flag was hoisted at Mines Admn. Building by Head- COMO Mr S Patni. The National anthem was sung by all. Official salute was given during the parade by the security team. Mr S Patni, Mr L Mohapatra, Mr M Pati and Mr H Sahoo spoke on the importance of Republic day and the National Flag. 46th National Safety Week - THV The 46th National Safety Week (4th March - 10th March, 2017) was observed at Therubali. The safety flag was hoisted by Mr K V Rao, Sr GM-Mfg (FA) on 4th March, 2017 and safety oath was administered. Awareness programs and competitions were organized to create safety culture. An exhibition was also held displaying PPEs, Safety slogans & Posters. First-Aid Refreshers Training was given to 32 employees by St John Ambulance. On 9th March, 2017 at the closing ceremony Mr. Abanikanta Nayak, Dy. Dir. of Factories & Boilers, Rayagada & Mr. Vibekananda Nayak, Asst. Dir. of Factories & Boilers, Rayagada attended as the Chief Guest & Guest of Honour respectively. Mr R N Praharaj,VP-Mfg(FA) gave the welcome address and Mr. B Pradhan, Asst. Mgr-Safety presented the Safety Report. Everybody enjoyed the safety drama “AMOGHA ASTRA” directed & written by Mr S K Tripathy, Asst.Mgr-Prodn . 46th National Safety Week :CDR The 46th National Safety Week was celebrated at IMFA Choudwar from 4th -10th March'2017. Various competitions along with Safety related First Aid demonstration was held for employees, contract workers, school children and family members. Training programs and LPG safety awareness programs were conducted for safety awareness. On the inaugural day i.e. 4th March'17, employees and their children participated in PRAVAT PHERI (Safety March) at the plant site. The Chief Guest, Mr. C R Beura, Asst Director of Factories & Boilers, Cuttack Zone unfurled the Safety Flag and addressed the gathering. Safety Oath was administered by Mr. B N Mohapatra SVP, Head- PBU & EIC. On the closing day prizes were distributed and a short play on Safety was staged by employees. alankar 3 EVENTS MD at FICCI-”Union Budget Analysis” FICCI Odisha State Council in association with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) organized "PwC Union Budget Analysis: On the Growth Path" on 8th February 2017 at Bhubaneswar. Discussions focused on budget proposals in line with the development priorities of the nation and the state. It complimented the Union Government on its vision for the economy which alongside the economic growth also ensures economic justice. Mr Subhrakant Panda, Chairman, FICCI Odisha State Council attended the meeting and said “It is truly a path breaking budget and an effort has been made to cleanse the economy. The biggest take away from the budget is the reforms introduced in the area of political funding.” He also spoke on the positive effect of demonetization. Other participants were Mr Sarat Chandra Dash, Commissioner Income Tax , Prof D V Ramana, XIMB, Mr. Dilip Satapathy, Resident Editor, Business Standard, Mr. Tapan Kumar Mohanty, Managing Director, Z Estates Pvt Ltd and Mr. Vivek Pattanayak, IAS (Retd.), Ex-Chairman, Bhubaneswar Stock Exchange and Chairman, MSME Panel, FICCI-Odisha State Council. OMMSWCC Launches Mobile Application - OMMSAPP The Odisha Metalliferous Mine Safety Week Celebration Committee (OMMSWCC) operating under the aegis of the Bhubaneswar Region of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), launched the website of OMMSWCC- “www.ommswcc.org” on 20th March 2017 at Bhubaneswar. The first ever mobile mining application of its kind in the country it has programmes on a specially designed calendar to pump in educative clips, films, messages, appeals, etc. connected to mining. This can be downloaded by using the APP to improve worker skills and quality of work in mines. The launching was attended by Mr R. Subramanian – Dir. of Mines Safety and Mr N.K.Sriram, Dy Dir of Mines Safety, Bhubaneswar Region of DGMS, Mr Sanjeev Das – Mr. VP & Head Mining BU-IMFA, and Senior professionals from renowned mining companies like OSCOM, ACC ltd, IMFA, IRE Ltd, Balasore Alloys Ltd, Tata Steels Ltd, FACOR, OMC Ltd, Tata Refractories Ltd, Utkal Alumina Ltd, Nalco, etc. 2nd Sourik Yuva Mahostav : SMC & MMC A tribal youth festival was organised for the 2nd time from 22nd-24th Mar 2017 in the chrome valley by hon’ble MLA Mr. P R Gharai with the sponsorship of all the mining cos and the raising contractors. The event was inaugurated by the Hon’ble MLA Mr P R Gharai in presence of all the public representatives. We conducted a workshop of Career Guidance in Environment and Health. On the final day all the mining companies top officials along with our Mr GM S Patni were felicitated by the organising committee. Two of our PR officers Sandeep Mishra and Ansuman Mohapatra were felicitated as the best coordinators. Antakshari competition was held among the different mining companies Mahila Samaj, where IMFA bagged the 1st prize. 4 alankar ACHIEVEMENT Mr. Subhrakant Panda, MD, IMFA Becomes President ICC India Mr. Subhrakant Panda, Managing Director & CEO, IMFA took over as the President of ICC India, at the conclusion of 86th Annual General Meeting of ICC India held here on Monday, the 27th Feb 2017. ICC India is an allied body of FICCI and is the Indian Affiliate of the Paris based International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the world business organisation with presence in over 130 countries. The International Chamber of Commerce is the largest, most representative business organization in the world. ICC's focus areas are: rule setting, dispute resolution, and policy advocacy. IMFA Bags Best CSR Award: SMC & MMC IMFA bagged the best CSR award at Mumbai, at a function organised by ABP news where 256 companies had participated. Mr. Sanjeev Das, Sr VP, Mining BU Head had presented the detailed report on company’s CSR activities on 4th Feb 2017 and Mr. Puranjaya Behera VP Mining received the prize on behalf of IMFA on 17th Feb 2017. Guest Lecture at IMI Bhubaneswar Dr Itishree Devi , DGM, Publicity & Events was invited as guest lecturer at the International Management Institute, a premier national level management institute at Bhubaneswar. Ms Devi addressed a session on “Insights on Corporate communications”. This was an experience sharing session to help students understand the practical importance of a communication strategy in real life corporate world. IMFA CHQ Bags 1st Prize in Large Garden Maintenance IMFA CHQ won the first prize in the segment of ‘Corporate Large Garden Maintenance’ by Regional Plant Resource Centre & Plant Lovers Association, Bhubaneswar. The annual competition is held for all corporate gardens in Bhubaneswar. Jury members included, retired professor of OUAT and officers from horticulture department. The gardens are judged on the basis of quality of maintenance, varieties of plants & flowers as well peripheral aesthetic upkeep. Mr Umakant Nayak leads the team of gardeners at CHQ. IMFA also bagged third prize in the segment of ‘Vegetable Garden’. Mr Abhaya K Swain, gardener deserves credit for maintaining the vegetable garden. alankar 5 HSE Training on “Effective Environmental Monitoring” Environmental Monitoring helps maintain quality of environment and analyzes trends & patterns of pollutants in the environment. The objective of effective environmental monitoring is different is to ensure company's compliance with environmental regulations, evaluating efficiency of newly installed machines, and evaluating employees' health. Mr S Barik, DGM HSE & Compliance conducted training on ‘Effective Environmental Monitoring’ at Choudwar FABU, SMC & MMC respectively. Major points discussed were: Awareness Training on “Laboratory Chemical Safety” From chemicals to electrical equipment, laboratories face a wide array of safety hazards. Anything can go awry, damaging equipment and causing injury/burns to individuals. It is important to be familiar with the equipment at the working space and follow proper safety procedures, to prevent or eliminate hazards. Labs are designed for safety.
