Jan-Mar 2009 The financial year 2006-07 has ended on a positive note, financially and operationally. Strong demand from steel industry worldwide has been an important factor for the encouraging results. However, optimum use of key resources like chrome ore and electricity has been our objective, to keep costs under control. We need to achieve longterm viability, as market prices and demand do and will fluctuate. Further integration to coal mining and expansion of electricity generation is now pursued expeditiously for adequate fundamental strength. IN THIS ISSUE Bhubaneswar News Lets2 hope and put our best efforts to better our operations in the current year. Consistency in operations is extremely important for us to implement our future plans. Therubali News 5 Choudwar News 8 Mines News 12 Community Helpline 15 th Training & 29 Sarala Award winner Mr. Hara Prasad Das, Chief Guest Dr Sashi Tharoor, Chairman Dr. Seminar 20 B Panda at the Sarala Award Function held on 14.06.2008 at Jayadev Bhawan, Bhubaneswar. CORPORATE MESSAGE Dear Colleagues, All of you are aware of the unusual testing times we and the whole world are going through. This recession is of a magnitude which was not probably seen in the last 80 years. Everybody is keenly awaiting revival of industrial demand. A lot of corrective steps, by way of fiscal and monetary measures with emphasis on Government spending, is visible worldwide. We can hope to see revival, however slow, in a few months time. We have scaled down operations at all our divisions, while constantly monitoring the situation to increase operations at the earliest possible, and minimize hardship to all our stakeholders. Our confidence to ride out the rough period is based on the strength of our integrated operations, cost competitiveness and most importantly our long term commitment to customers. With best wishes, Yours sincerely, (Jayant Misra) Director (Corporate) Vol. XXII Issue 1 Reg 48228/88 For Private Circulation Only, January-March 2009 alankar Bhubaneswar on 14.06.2008.
