WANTED: Junior Co-ordinator After many years of involvement Anthony Maxworthy is looking for a break from this role. Now is the time for someone to raise their hand to be Junior Co-ordinator for 2007-08. Ideally this will be someone who is keen to dedicate a couple of years to the role, so that means someone with a child or children from U/13's down, and with an interest in fostering the game and the club. Through the hard work of many the past 12 years Normanhurst juniors has grown into the third largest junior club in the association.....this is a position we all hope to maintain. 2006-2007 Committee President Cameron Riddett Secretary Jaye Waldegrave Treasurer Matthew Pietsch Registrar Sue Haertsch Equipment Officer John Kerr Webmaster Nikhil Kulkarni Senior Co-ordinator Cameron Riddett Junior Co-ordinator Anthony Maxworthy Sponsorship Anthony Maxworthy Social Coordinator Rocco Giaquinto

SENIOR’S REPORT It was always going to be hard to match last years results…… we tried with 4 teams in the semi-finals, and 2 in the grand final. Congratulations on all teams for efforts on the park. I must thank all players for the way they have conducted themselves whilst playing in the RED & BLACK of Normo. It is a privilege to be associated with you, to play along side, well done. Congratulations to century makers: Nishad Kulkarni, Andrew Walker, Brennen Smart, Tom Green, Mitch Magrath, Nathan Ryan, Matt Darwas & Adam Whitlock. Also to Matt Salisbury who took 8 for 57 in an , and John Acheson who took 10 for 85 including 7 for 38. We must thank all those players that filled in at some stage throughout the season. This included around 30 juniors who filled in, and just as many “mates” that helped out sides when they were short. Without you guys we would not get full teams on the park each week. Big thanks must go to Rocco Giaquinto. Rocco ran the senior trainings very efficiently this year making sure everyone received a bat. His enthusiasm, passion and love for the game is inspiration to us all. Cheers Rock. Hope you all enjoyed the season as much as myself, and have fun during the off season. Cameron Riddett Senior Co-ordinator

JUNIOR’S REPORT If we were a club that only gauged its success on winning Premierships, we’ve had an ok year. But, fortunately most people in our club, including the committee, base a successful season on participation (kids and adults), growth, skill improvement and enjoyment. This season has seen Normanhurst junior cricket continue to flourish. Our teams represented Normanhurst in all ages, except the Under 14’s, and again we had strong representation in Have-a- Go, Under 9’s and Under 10’s. It was especially pleasing was to see three Normanhurst teams compete in the Under 16’s. At an age when young guys are thinking about doing things other than spending their mornings on the cricket, and are leaving the game, we ended up with an additional team. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who gave their time to coach, manage, score, umpire and submit results. Your efforts are what makes Normanhurst the cricket club that it is. Also to the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends who have attended games to support the kids, many thanks. I’m sure you got a lot of enjoyment out of seeing the kids having fun. As mentioned elsewhere in this report, I will not be looking after junior cricket next season. We need someone with a child or children involved in the club to volunteer to take on the junior co-ordinators role. I will be around to help, but I will definitely not be available to do the role again. If you are interested please contact me if you have any questions about what’s involved. In finishing, congratulations should go to two of our teams. The Under 16 Red and Under 13 Black teams won their respective competitions. Well done boys, particularly to the Under 16’s as this is their last year of junior cricket with Normo CC – Congratulations!! Best wishes Anthony Maxworthy

HAVE-A-GO REPORT The Have-a-Go season was jointly managed by Peter Hayes and Dirk Drieberg. Peter and Dirk took turns to the Saturday morning sessions. The season was characterised by high participation rates and helpful parents and kids. The 33 registered players ranged from ages 4 to 9, and there were many skill and experience levels to accommodate. A typical session consisted of a warm up after which the kids were split into two age groups for skill sessions, games and net sessions. Normanhurst West Primary School proved to be an excellent venue for the Have a Go sessions because of its location, ample shade, seating and availability of nets, so hopefully it can be secured again next year. The Normanhurst Cricket Club generously funded a Christmas break-up so the boys and girls had an indulgent session with ice creams, fruit, soft drinks and a little bit of cricket. Peter Hayes and Dirk Drieberg Have-a-Go Coordinators, 2007

UNDER 9 RED TEAM REPORT With many of the boys about to play their first game of club cricket, we nailed down Jamie Slater to be our coach and off we went. The early rounds of the season were thrilling with Anthony Johnston hitting a four on a game’s final ball to win the match 103 to 101 (wickets were tied) and Matthew Reeves taking 3 wickets in one over, giving away only 4 runs for the day. Solid bowling performances throughout the season by Rishab Khanna, Leyton Witts, Matthew Hammond, Malhar Sapre and Alec Drummond kept our opponents scoring in check with very economical bowling at times. Following the Christmas break, we saw our boys return with an army of new bats, ready for the run to the season close. Callum Slater really got into the game and Michael So produced some of the strongest throwing from the outfield we have seen. Aidan Smith’s enormous saw many boundaries reached. Congratulations to all the boys for the effort shown over the summer, and see you all next season. UNDER 9 BLACK TEAM REPORT It was a pleasure to be involved with this young group of keen cricketers for 2006/07 and what made it so good was the enjoyment the team had, their willingness to learn, wanting to improve, a fighting spirit and the friendships they made. On the playing field this was a very strong team winning seventeen of the nineteen games played, many of them by large margins. Individually each of the players wanted to improve and, as the season progressed, they all did – better running between the wickets, fantastic fielding, great stroke play and accurate and tight bowling.

Page 6 Annual Report 2006-07

A huge thanks to all the parents for their support and encouragement for the Team both at training and matches when scoring, umpiring and cheering. Special thanks to our Team Manager, Glenn Harrington, who was always on the ball with his organisation and communication, and also to Vasant Hariharan whose support to both Glenn and I was greatly appreciated. Avneet Bhele – A very consistent player with both bat and ball. A hard hitting batsmen who could be relied on to make runs and a wicket taking bowler who famously won a tight game for the Team with his last ball wicket. Taylor Davies – The outstanding batsman in the team. Taylor made over 360 in the fifteen games he played. Uses his feet well and hits the ball powerfully – making 24 off 5 balls in one over. Always a thrill to watch when at the crease. Also a more than handy bowler who will learn over the years to control the enormous swing he gets. Harrison Gregor – A strong all round performance. Made runs, took wickets with tight accurate bowling that does just enough through the air and off the pitch. The Teams most consistent fielder with a number of fine catches, reliable wicket keeping and some direct hit run outs. Dale Hamilton – With a tennis background Dale was a strong hitter of the ball. His bowling was a bit wayward to start with but he became a very dangerous bowler after the break, taking wickets as he applied himself to improving his action. Hugh Harrington – A popular member of the Team, his accurate slow bowling did not get anywhere near the number of wickets he deserved – but they will. A good batsmen who ran well between the wickets with good calling. An enthusiastic member of the Team. Shubhang Hariharan – The most improved player in the side by a mile. Applied himself to all aspects of the game and his batting and bowling were a major cog in the Teams strength as the year went on. Who will ever forget his crashing cover drive in the last game! Joshua Koshy – Missed almost two thirds of the season, but contributed well when he was available. What Joshua can take out of the season is a much improved bowling action. An enthusiastic player who always wanted to be in the action. Daisy Morris – A lot of natural talent. Gave the ball a decent whack and worked very hard at her bowling, improving her length and accuracy over the season. Also very accomplished in the field with excellent hands and an accurate throwing arm. Oliver Pile – A season unfortunately cut short by injury – broken foot and then a broken arm – that didn’t see him play in 2007. But his early season was very good. Always made runs as a hard-hitting batsmen and took wickets with his crafty spinners. Eknoor Singh – Missed half the season, but a strong contributor when available. A naturally quick bowler who could move the ball in the air and took wickets with his pace. Consistent performer with the bat and regularly made runs. Also another strong fielder with good hands and throwing arm.

We look forward to seeing the team back together for next season and once again enjoying the game of cricket.

UNDER 10 RED TEAM REPORT Some great fun and a truly rewarding experience in coaching this team. It is tremendous to be involved with the enthusiasm brought to each game and every training session. Everyone improved heaps during the season, and all were willing to listen and learn. Sam Arthur – bowls straight and takes wickets when everything comes together. Rewarded with 6 wickets for the season but could be more with some extra energy. Josiah Binet – can’t get enough cricket, and like a pig in mud when analysing his statistics. Batted consistently and his patience was rewarded with five “30 (or more) retired” scores during the season at an average of 51 runs per dismissal. Bowling was a highlight with 8 wickets and many more to come in seasons ahead. Matthew Corish – beginning to blossom into a promising cricketer. The most consistent batsman all season, learning some patience with his shot selection, and as the season progressed was more prepared to bat for long enough to score heavily. Excellent running between wickets to help his team- mates and keep the team total keep ticking over. The most enthusiastic and reliable performer in the field. Matthew Crago – in his first year of cricket had a magic game in Round 7 with the season’s best bowling figures for the whole team with 4-22 to go with his 20 retired in the same match. Was able to travel back to the Old Dart and prove that all Aussies are great cricketers. A total of seven wickets for the season, all in the second half as Matthew kept improving and learning the game. Jeremy Doowage – batted consistently and always good for a score, averaging 30 runs per dismissal. Will improve when he learns not to throw his wicket away. Bowled accurately and reliably for a bag of five wickets for the season. Shane Doowage – loves the game, carries the biggest smile and always ready to have a bat (even when we’re fielding). Best post wicket celebrations of anyone for each of his three wickets during the year. Batted consistently and patiently. Hamish Fullagar – equal top wicket taker, best bowling consistency, a ridiculously low , a hat-trick when bowling into a howling gale, longest bowling run-up, 3 catches in a game, most runs scored with the bat, most fours hit, most sixes hit; …not a bad effort…! Jack Hammond – Mr Anticipation and Action in the field. Took some great catches and stopped plenty of runs with some great fielding. Ten wickets for the season, including seven in the last three games when introducing some cunning and guile to his repertoire. Scored 199 runs @ 40 runs per dismissal in a great all round performance. Jack Helling – highlight of the season was Round 2 when Jack batted for hours and hours in a great effort of perseverance. Loves being part of the action with his team-mates, and always willing to bounce back from the odd set-back. Jamie Nelson – best batting was a great 46 in Round 3 when needed by the team. Hit some great shots throughout the season and finished on fire in his last innings. Bowled brilliantly at times and promises to deliver big things with greater consistency. A big thank you to Andy Fullagar for his coaching assistance and calming influence. and also to everyone who helped at training, with scoring, with coffees, with transport, and by turning up each Saturday to support the team. FIELDING AWARD: Jack Hammond (9 catches, including 3 catches in a game twice) BOWLING AWARD: Hamish Fullagar (10 wickets @ 9.8 runs per wicket; bowling consistency of 92.0%) BATTING AWARD: Matthew Corish (313 runs @ 104) Coach: John Corish

UNDER 10 BLACK TEAM REPORT Cricket, like golf, is a sport where a player can at times achieve an exceptional outcome, though unlike golf, this achievement often reflects on the whole team. It can come through the pressure that the team has built on the opposition or through the encouragement that the team has provided. When this happens, it is a magic moment, enjoyed not only by the individual, but by all members of the team and by the spectators in support. There were many such moments like this throughout the season and some are listed below: Mitchell MacMahon’s hat-trick against Pennant Hills (3/14); Chris Smith’s 50no against Thornleigh, 50 against WPHC Green, 48 against WPHC White and 47 against Normanhurst displayed a Gilchrist approach and finished on 294 runs for the season and displayed much talent in bowling with figures like 3/12 against WPHC White; Dylan Hood, playing up an age level, who was brilliant in the field, also making 50no against WPHC White and taking 3/2 against Berowra and 3/19 against WPHC White with his inswinging action; Adin Milligan making 30no against Thornleigh Gold and Jack Woodrow making 33no against WPH Cherrybrook; Ben Xie smashing sixes and fours to make 40 against Pennant Hills, 35 no against Thornleigh Blue and 42 no against Thornleigh Gold. The amount of improvement shown by players was huge: players like Oliver Fisher in his return to cricket who persevered in his bowling to take his first wicket and develop a fluent bowling action; Scott Hewitt in his first season, who spent 40 minutes in the middle without losing his wicket and made 18 against Thornleigh; Mitchell Duggan gloving the ball as keeper to run out opposition players and bowling 2/17 against Normanhurst Red. Then there were players who displayed a good deal of patience and persistence: Patrick Grigg who was the master of leg glances and pull shots who made 38, then 50 no, 30no had a quiet week and then another 30no. Thomas Xavier who played representative cricket this season and contributed by taking 2 or 3 wickets nearly every week and finished with the second highest run rate of 238 for the season. The Normanhurst Under 10 Black team had an enjoyable and successful season. Each player showed improvement in their skill level and developed new friendships. As their first year into the extended over format, all began to develop those critical qualities that make good cricketers: patience, persistence and teamwork.

UNDER 11 TEAM REPORT Oscar Cole has a very good eye for a ball and is a natural batsman hitting the highest score of any player this season. Oscar is also a useful bowler, taking a number of vital wickets and is very handy in the field. Oscar has the potential to be a leader on the cricket field given the right opportunities. Ben Griffiths is a good all round cricketer. Ben was asked to open the bowling on a number of occasions and was a fine line and length bowler, his opening spells never disappointed. Ben is a very keen and enthusiastic cricketer which showed in his fielding. Ben batted sensibly and held up an end on more than one occasion when chasing a target. Isaac Harrison contributed in all elements of cricket, he bowls a handy leg cutter that is almost unplayable. His batting is improving each game and has been rewarded by moving up the order. Isaac has a fantastic pair of hands and took a number of remarkable catches during the season. Will Johnston is very competitive and has a strong desire to succeed. Will is our best all round cricketer and performed more consistently with the bat and ball than any other player. His attitude in the field was fantastic and he was always on hand to support and encourage his team mates. A future leader. Jeffrey Joseph has a lot of potential as a cricketer and when he put his mind to it, was a threatening bowler showing a slight turn of his speed. Jeffrey was always keen to get involved and showed a good attitude. Jeffrey has a decent eye and sound defence when batting. Kartik Kundra was our most successful bowler and took a hat trick in one game while accumulating six wickets in that same innings, he bowled a very consistent line and length. His batting was also reliable and very rarely disappointed. Kartik also took a number of good catches throughout the season. Kush Kundra was always reliable with bat and ball. If we needed a wicket or to stop the flow of runs it was Kush and his brother that were called upon. He also scored some useful runs, fielded well and has a very good attitude. Has great potential. Merzad Naterwala has a lot of potential. With concentration he plays some straight and nice cricket shots. His bowling was at times quick and dangerous. He possesses a safe pair of hands and a good throwing arm. Always enthused the rest of the team with his sense of humour - a real team player. Mark Munasinghe has loads of natural ability with both bat and ball. Once he learns to have his feet in the right position he will score lots of runs. He played a match winning hand a couple of times. His bowling was often the fastest in the team with good movement off the seam and in the air. His fielding improved immeasurably during the season. Daniel Phillips has a heart as big as a lion. Refusing to give his wicket away, he often held up an end and scored some useful runs for us, including a match winning partnership with Mark. His bowling improved markedly during the season as did his fielding. A very keen and enthusiastic team player. Christian Sharpe is there anyone who loves their cricket more than Chris? He was the most improved player in the team. He always listened to advice and converted it into some very good performances in the field especially with the bat. He will continue to improve as he gets older and will always be a valuable asset to his team. Jason Wozniak is a very valuable member of the team. When he plays straight he hits the ball very nicely. When his action was on song his bowling was almost unplayable and he took a number of valuable wickets for us. He was without doubt the best wicket-keeper in the team and also possessed the best throwing arm. Will go a long way in the game. UNDER 12 TEAM REPORT

The under 12’s started the season with three convincing wins and looked unstoppable. A reality check followed – facing what ended up as the top 4 teams in the competition in rounds 4, 5, 6 and 7!

However, the boys bounced back in the new year with a hard fought win in round 8 and two great performances in the Kimbo Cup at the end of the season. The team finished the season in 8th place, out of 14 teams.

Although one gets the sense there is a deal of unrealized potential in this team, with many of the boys playing up a year, they are all benefiting by improving their cricketing skills against strong opponents.

The outstanding batting performances came from Utkarsh Somaiya and Matt Briscoe (in his first season).

Other strong batting performances came from Hayden Witts, Luke Thorburn, Tim Blunt and Michael Bradley. Max Barnes proved to be a very solid opener. Daniel Arthur and Ananya Parlhandwathy grew in confidence and made significant contributions at the end of the season. James Austin finished the season with an excellent innings.

Utkarsh Somaiya was the most prolific wicket taker. Everyone improved their bowling as the season progressed. Others strong bowlers included Harrison Middlebrook and Michael Bradley (who each bowled at real pace), Hayden Witts and Angus Simpson.

Wicket keeping duties were shared, and competently discharged, by Tim Blunt and Peter Davies.

Mention should also be made of some outstanding fielding, particularly from Hayden Witts (“magnet”) who seemed to catch anything hit remotely in the vicinity of the covers.

UNDER 13 RED TEAM REPORT The 2006/07 cricket season was great for the U/13 Red team. The team was a mix of old and a few new or relatively new players. All the boys enjoyed their cricket, with each and every one contributing to the team performance seeing them missing the finals by 1 point. The highlight for all were the two games where the boys put on over 150 runs for the last wicket to win in each case. I didn’t think the parents were going to survive and the boys were ecstatic. Hugh Davies had a great year bamboozling the batsmen with his big spinning leggies and never letting an opportunity go by to smack a boundary or 2 while batting. Hugh’s stroke play was at times exciting as well as being very creative. Although Josh Davies had limited opportunities due to private school commitments, he showed his ability opening the batting and blowing with great pace. Even though Jason (Sheriff) Garrett was thrown in the deep end at the top of the batting order a number of times, he showed solid defence combined with some great attacking shots to kick start the innings, with his bowling being consistent and on the spot for the year. The highlight was his ability to bowl with both left and right arms in the same over in the last game. Lindsay Haertsch joined the team this year and immediately fitted in with the rest of the boys. Although unlucky in his early ventures to the crease, he showed solid defence culminating in his first 50 n.o. against W.P.H. Red. This was Paul Hayes first year of playing cricket with us and continued to show his batting prowess frustrating a number of bowlers with his stoic defence while accumulating runs off the bad balls. His bowling showed great improvement and by the end of the season was bowling leggies like Shane Warne. Sam Morris had a great year with both the bat and ball. He bowled consistently showing great control while swinging the ball and taking vital wickets at regular intervals. Sam show great determination while batting with the famous SS plank of timber culminating in his first 50 n.o. with a 4 off the last ball of the day. Krishna Muralidharan really enjoyed his cricket this year taking a number of wickets with his accurate pace bowling. Although he had limited opportunities with the bat, he always gave his best and while fielding was always enthusiastic, encouraging and motivating the whole team. David (DOC) O’Connor had his second year with our team and showed great improvement in his overall bowling ability, the highlight being his first ever clean bowl off a great ball. DOC showed great determination with the bat, frustrating a number of teams with his solid front foot defence. While fielding you could guarantee, at least once an innings, to see DOC sprawled over the ground saving valuable runs in his usual enthusiastic way. Timothy Patfield was an integral part of the team this year, showing great improvement in his bowling, narrowly missing a hat trick in one game after taking 2 wickets in 2 balls. While batting, Tim always gave 100% and was his own harshest critic if things didn’t quite go to plan. This was Tomlin Poynton’s first year of cricket and you could not ask for a more enthusiastic player in everything he did whether it be batting, bowling or fielding. If things were a little slow, we could always rely on Tomlin to brighten the day with witty comments or actions. Tomlin’s attitude was highlighted in one game where he batted up the order and was determined to show us all his new defence his dad had taught him during the week. As usual, Tomlin didn’t let us down and there was no prouder dad on the side than Tony, telling anyone who would listen, “I taught him that” – good on you Tomlin! Cameron Rickard really enjoyed his cricket this year with his confidence sky high, all he wanted to do was bat. He achieved some great scores and an impressive array of shots. When bowling, Cameron had the opposition guessing with his subtle changes in his spin bowling as well as giving everything while fielding (although there is a little bit of work to be done in the wicket keeping department!).

Page 12 Annual Report 2006-07

Again this year Lachlan Skulander was always giving 100% whether it be batting, bowling, fielding or wicket keeping, often being his own harshest critic. He had a great year with the bat with 2 scores over 50 and consistently contributing to the team score. Lachlan was always willing to support the team, offering advice or encouragement to all the players.

Oliver Treanor was possibly the faster bowler this year, he was consistently beating the bat or shaking up the opposition’s top order. Ollie also enjoyed his batting, although only had limited opportunities. He is a great tam player, always willing to do what was asked of him.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to offer my thanks to Sue Haertsch who managed the team admirably and enthusiastically, making sure we all knew where we were headed and whether or not you could buy coffee or if we were having a BBQ at the oval.

Thank you also to Bill Garrett who assist me throughout the year in umpiring or taking training when I could not make it. Peter Hayes also helped with the umpiring when he was available. I really appreciated it, thanks Peter.

A big thank you to Jim Treanor who was our scorer for the year, making sure everything added up (especially on a couple of very close games). To Nadine Davies and her trusty assistant Farnham, thank you very much for making sure all the scores and stats were lodged accurately and timely every week.

I would also like to offer a big thank you to “Uncle Ben” (Ben Norris) who kindly came to a number of trainings to provide valuable one on one advice to the boys. This was greatly appreciated and I for one could see the improvement in a number of boys as a direct result of his input and advice.

A big thank you also to all the parents who attended the matches to support and encourage not only their own children but the team as a whole. It was great to see and hear the positive encouragement for all the boys.

Last but not least, thank you to each and every boy in the team. You all contributed to a really positive and fun filled cricket season. I look forward to seeing you all back next year in the U/14 Red Team. UNDER 13 BLACK TEAM REPORT Equal 1st and grand Final winners Congratulations to a team, which did not give up at any stage throughout the season. It was a commendable effort that saw the lads win a very tough semi-final after being down many wickets for not many runs, and defend a meagre total to win a place through to the Grand Final.

Luckily the Grand Final was moved to our home ground of Normanhurst Oval for the Final. The lads really stepped up a gear upon playing our lovely friends at West Pennant Hills. After great early bowling spells by the speed demons of Tim Acheson & Lachlan Ford, West Penno succumbed to the Normanhurst attack with Jordan Pidgeon taking 4 wickets, backed up by Brendan Maxworthy & Dave Algama, for a meagre 63.

Normanhurst gave chase, but fell very early to be 3 for 15 after 10 overs. In stepped to the crease Mitch Fullagar, who showed why he is one of the better bats of the competition by a lovely knock and be at the finish, Normanhurst winning the Final by 7 wickets. The Premier Team: Tim Acheson: A very quick and accurate opening bowler, lovely temperament at the batting crease. Finished with figures 1 for 17 from 10 in the Final. David Algama: Confident opening bat & very effective bowler, took 3 for 7 in the Semi-Final Louis Burke-Xie: Showed improvement through the season, took a fantastic catch in the Semi-Final to start the wickets tumbling. Lachlan Ford: Damaging batsmen and very quick opening bowler. A high score of 99 not out against the other Normanhurst team. Very hard to get out once set. Mitch Fullagar: An entertaining batsmen, HS 61*, also took many wickets (18 @ 5.22) with a left hand over the wicket swing bowling. Nick Fullagar: A real team player. Kept his side in many games with his determination to stay at the crease. Ellis Hoffman: 1st year with Normo, showed great improvement and determination in the semi-final when he lasted ten overs at the crease. Elliot McClintock: A very handy spin bowler with a clean hitting style whilst at the crease, a pity he broke his hand, then his leg in succession to rule him out for the season. Brendan Maxworthy: 6.1 overs 1 run, 2 wickets, is what read the scorebook after the Grand Final. Bowls unplayable in swingers when pitches the ball up. Cameron Maxworthy: Cam improved with each game, especially his determination, which showed in his 10 over stint at the crease in the Semi-Final Jordan Pidgeon: Opening Batsmen who valued his wicket over anything else. A very good bowler who always made a batsmen play, (4-20 in the Grand Final). Guy Seymour: Best Batting Technique in the competition. Best Wicket Keeper in the Competition with 11 dismissals. Liam Willis: Learnt that to stay batting, one has to value his own wicket, and make sure his fellow man at the other end valued his..! Congratulations to all players on their fantastic season. You were a pleasure to coach, umpire and fun to be around. I hope the next season will be just as good. A big thank you to all the parents for getting the kids to matches and training, and Mr. John Acheson who managed the team, keeping the parents, lads and Me up to date with everything. Cheers. UNDER 15 TEAM REPORT These boys successfully merged into a new team at the beginning of the season from two U14 sides the year before. With 14 players in the side, the most difficult task was trying to ensure that everybody received sufficient opportunity to showcase their talents. A lot of depth in both the batting and bowling departments promised much, though a lack of consistency and an inability to exert enough pressure on the big guns of the competition resulted in a middle of the table finish. Some excellent individual performances during the year were led by Tom Foreman who scored 217 runs @ 36.2 and took 15 wickets @ 5.4, including a superb 6-2 in Round 3. Tom led by example when in the middle of the action, and also produced some great results in Colts, Representative and School cricket during the season. The team evolved into a very good bowling side, with any of 5 players capable of taking the new ball and putting it to the opposition. Asiri Gunawardena proved to be a very threatening new ball partner with Tom, with consistent quick efforts on a regular basis. James Coutts, Sean Willis, Chris Petrie & Chinmay Khandkar all bowled quickly and accurately when given the cherry. Our spin twins of Matthew Haertsch & Chinmay Chitale proved very successful with 17 wickets between them and managing to hold their nerve following on from the opening attack. Harry Lumley and Ed Grigg chimed in with successful spells at the bowling crease when given a chance. The best individual bowling effort of the season saw Tim Corish clean up in Round 9 with a handy haul of 7-16, demonstrating the value of bowling a full length and at the stumps. The bowling was well supported by our reliable wicket-keeping duo of Mitchell Skulander and Matthew Haertsch, with a successful cameo behind the stumps by Chris Petrie in Round 4. The fielding was led by Michael Kerr in both effort expended and encouragement offered to his team- mates. Being identified as a pair of ‘safe hands’ saw Tim Corish travel many miles from deep mid - wicket to deep-mid-wicket at times, pulling in some fine chances (though letting a few get away at the same time). Batting efforts during the season saw the top score for the team in the 9 games shared by 8 different players, reflecting the depth of the side but also the lack of consistency throughout the season. Great individual efforts with the bat at times from Chinmay Khandkar, Chinmay Chitale, Tom Foreman, Mitchell Skulander, Chris Petrie, James Coutts, Cameron Allen & Matthew Haertsch in this regard. The batting award was thoroughly deserved by our regular #3, Chinmay Chitale, with 209 runs @ 26.1, a reward for the patience and perseverance to bat for long enough to regularly score runs. The Players’ Player award as voted for by the boys went to a deserved Mitchell Skulander in a very close and scattered poll. Large expressions of appreciation to Anant Chitale for his whole-hearted effort in managing the side, to John Kerr for his coaching by default role (particularly come Saturday mornings), and to Michael Allen for his continual umpiring commitment. Tim Grigg also chipped in with umpiring assistance, as did others with scoring duties and organising and supporting the team. UNDER 16 WHITE TEAM REPORT The Under 16 competition proved to be a strong one this year with all teams capable, on their day, of beating all others. Normanhurst White (alias Warrawee/Normanhurst Blue) won half of their matches, including games against both of the eventual finalists, and only missed out on the semis by a couple of points. All players were a credit to the club and to their parents. They always played to win but in the best spirit of the game. A special thank you to those parents who assisted throughout the year with scoring, umpiring, packing the kit, etc, etc… Andrew (“AB”) Bastoli had a solid season with some cameo performances which were unforgettable. Justin Donnelly also had an enjoyable season contributing with some good individual performances, both with bat and ball –a fine team player. Andrew Gamble again showed his worth as the team’s best all-rounder with some strong performances with both bat and ball. New comer after the season had started, Lachlan Gage, who previously had only played for his school, created an immediate impact with his strong and consistent batting which all team members appreciated. Hard hitting batsmen Tom Green intimidated many an opposing bowler; proved more than just a useful bowler himself, and was a strong motivator in the field. Dave Lotzof constantly tried hard and had some courageous last wicket stands which were appreciated by all. His catch in the Kimbo Cup, unfortunately off a no ball, had to be seen to be believed. Another new comer, Nathan Maginnis, who also had not played competition cricket before joining NCC, quickly became an integral part of the team. He enjoyed hitting the ball hard and had a couple of memorable tail-end performances. All rounder Craig Maynard was an important team player with his left arm opening swing bowling and hard hitting batting which helped the team in many of their wins. Strike bowler Isaac Malamel bowled strongly with pace and menace, particularly towards the end of the season, giving even the best of opposing batsmen a difficult time. He was also contributed strongly with the bat. Team captain Matthew Pendleton again showed his ability to not only effectively manage the team in all aspects of play on and off field, but led from the front when it came to batting aggregates. Jarrod Witts unfortunately could not play many games because of school commitments but when he did, showed great all round abilities. From being a number 10 batsman last year to opener this year, Joseph Xavier showed just how far his batting had improved, culminating in some excellent opening stands. One of the best team players in White was Joseph Yarham who showed that through practice, effective off spin can take wickets. Joseph also played an important role in galvanizing team spirit. UNDER 16 RED TEAM REPORT Congratulations to the boys on winning the under 16 HK& HDCA premiership. In a hard fought final, Normanhurst Red 129 (Josh Cole 54 off 54 balls) defeated Upper Hills 115 (Nick Creighton 4/26 off 11.3 overs & Aiden Allen 1/4 off 5 overs outstanding). No one at the ground will forget how cool Sam Higgins was when he yelled "I've got it" and took the out-field catch the team really needed in the grand final. The true measure of any team is how they play as a team. All Normanhurst Red players contributed during the year towards their premiership. Particularly pleasing was the efforts and improvement shown by Tim Hayes & Daniel Barnes during the year. There were some brilliant individual performances but none better than Aiden Allen's 50 n.o. as night watchman in the semi final. Josh Cole's 90 in round 5 was also a gem. The team were lucky to have some excellent batsmen with Mitch Thorburn 320 at 45.7, Glen Holden 268 at 33.5, Josh Cole 240 at 26.7, James Cooper 202 at 25.3, Edward Sowden 191 at 31.8, & Chris Aldersley 175 at 29.2 all performing during the year. Whilst batting was the team’s strength, there were some excellent bowling performances from Nick Creighton (13 wickets at 12.1 av with an economy rate of 1.72 runs per over), Edward Sowden (12 wickets at 13.4 av), David Woods (10 wickets at 13.6) & Chris Aldersley (10 wickets at 9.3av). UNDER 16 BLACK TEAM REPORT With the start of the new season, half the team was new to the squad but all were eager for an exciting season, especially with the interest in the Ashes series. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite pan out the way we hoped although we had some close games. However, it was a pleasure to see continued improvements in the skills of players like Michael Arthur, Tim Spruce and Glen Downey mixed with some elegant batting skills of Chris Howie, Deeptesh Chagan and Tom Wheeler. Andrew Patfield continued with his dogged determination and helped the team out of batting trouble a few occasions and combined his spinning skills with Nick Pye who was real find of the season (and who helped out in a few of the Colts games as well). Zohaib Rizvi and Main Trivedi often played and proved they were better than they thought themselves – a little more confidence and be much improved players. Our thanks go Liz Rodgie and Anthony Maxworthy who helped with scoring and umpiring, especially when I couldn’t be there and the teams thanks Rocco for his enthusiasm and encouragement as the team coach. COLTS In the second year of the Colts Competition it was fair to say the competition was more balanced than the inaugural season of 05-06. Normo’s team this year was built around a number of players from last seasons U/16 Grand final, a number of juniors predominately from the U/16’s and an old bloke! The team was well led by our skipper Nick Reedy who was the teams top scorer for the season (228 @ 16.29), Nick also proved very handy behind the stumps taking some wonderful catches. It is fair to say that bowling was our strength with some splendid performances from Michael Brown (20 @ 19.55), Cal Waldegrave (25 @ 12.24), Matt Verduin (7 @ 27.43) Maxi (13 @ 13.62) Pat Ferrara (7 @ 26.29) Jason Maxworthy (6 @ 29.33), Mitch Thorburn (5 @ 17.6) and the bowling find of the season our U/15 sensation Tom Foreman (11 @ 19.09). Youthful enthusiasm often got in the way of some great team scores, with others supporting our skipper including Cal Waldegrave (178 @ 19.78), Matt Pendleton (127 @ 12.70), Mitch Thorburn (150 @ 21.43), Maxi (177 @ 19.67), Jugga Ryan (169 @ 56.33). Everyone learnt a lot about batting on turf this year, which will stand them in good stead for next year. A few highlights of the year – • Akshay’s removal from the bowling attack in the first match of the season after bowling 3 above waist high full tosses within 8 deliveries! • Steve Smith’s 98 at the Glade against our friends from West Penno. • Jugga’s 113* vs. Kenthurst at Kenthurst. • Maxi getting “smacked” for 38 off two overs vs. Kenthurst at Storey Park. • Knocking off Castle Hill in the last match of the season. • Brownie’s 5/for against Kenthurst in the Semi. • Kenthurst’s senior player’s dummy spit when we beat them in the Semi. After finishing second during the season and coming away with a hard fought win over Kenthurst in the semi, Normo were off to their first Colts Final. The final was a great opportunity for the lads to lock horns with the gun team of the comp – Castle Hill. The match was played at Berowra Oval, and although being the underdogs, we gave ourselves a good chance. On an extremely hot day Castle Hill won the toss and elected to bat. They obviously planned on batting all day, but we had other ideas. After some great bowling on a wicket which offered a little early assistance, we were in having a bat at tea – having dismissed them for 165 off 50 overs. Unfortunately the dream was not to be. At the close of play we were in trouble at 6/68, but that was pretty much it. Overnight rain and very wet bowling run ups meant that at 1:30pm on the second day, stumps were called and Castle Hill awarded the premiership having finished the season on top. Many thanks to all those players who helped by filling in; particular mention though of the Wood brothers, Nathan and Daniel (an opening bowler who took 11 wickets in just 2 matches) and also Robbie Waight and Mitch Magrath who both played a big part in getting us to the final with some great batting and bowling performances respectively. Other fill in players included – the whole Cole family (I’m sure Oscar must have sub fielded once), John Acheson, Lachlan Ford, Chris Howie, Andy Patfield, Nick Pye, Justin Rodgie and Steve Smith. The season wouldn’t have been the success it was without your help. To next year, as they say, you’ve often got to lose a final to appreciate winning won. If this is true, and most of the lads come back next year, I expect Normo will be the next name inscribed on the Colts trophy!!! BATTING AWARD Nick Reedy 228 runs @ 16.29 BOWLING AWARD Michael Brown 20 wickets @ 19.55 ALL ROUNDER Cal Waldegrave 178 @ 19.78 (25 wickets @ 12.25) Colts Manager: Anthony Maxworthy

A GRADE TEAM REPORT Team: Murray Rowe (Captain), David Croft( VC), Peter Bradey, Andrew Walker, Robbie Magrath, Nishad Kulkarni, Steve Smith(WK), Steve Drew, Rocco Giaquinto, Darren Egelhoff, Nick Garton, Chris Hawkins & Joel Carter. As always we set some goals for 2006/07 at the season opening BBQ. The main ones included finishing in the top four, at least one guy getting a ton and dropping less catches than last year. Well we certainly achieved all of these by finishing 4th on 60 points (25 points ahead of 5th and just one win behind 3rd) Walks 133 not out and Nish 108 not out both scored awesome centuries and we only dropped 30 odd catches compared to the 45 grassed the year before and we ended up training twice a week with Rocco “Fines Nazi” Giaquinto never missing a session all season. After cruising into the semi-finals following a thrilling outright win against St Ives in Rd 13 we came up against our arch rivals and last years premiers ARL. We went into the game high in confidence after we knocked them over in the 1st round as well as scoring 3 for 235 and 3 for 221 in our previous 2 games. True to form though, I lost another toss (only won 2 out of 11 all year!) and as a result ARL elected to take first use of the road they call Berowra Oval. In true Normo style we knocked them over for 168 following classy spells from Robbie Magrath (5 – 50), Pete Brades (3-71) and David Crofty (2-38) and some excellent fielding especially from Steve Smith, our new young gun wicket keeper who snared 2 great catches and was unlucky not to have a stumping or two if it wasn’t for some very dubious umpiring. Steve snared 19 catches and 3 stumping’s for the year and really lifted the team with his consistent high class work behind the stumps. Based on my own experience its not easy keeping to left armers especially when there are 6 of them in the team! We ended the 1st day on 4 for 105 with Brades and me at the crease looking as solid as Brades himself. Unfortunately day 2 did not go to plan and we fell just 8 runs short despite some gutsy lower order batting from Nick Gartoes and Rocco Giaquinto which almost got us over the line. The rain then came and ended our hopes of knocking off the outright. It wasn’t the result we believed we deserved but I’m very proud of the effort we put in and especially with the spirit in which we played the game. Unfortunately the semi-final loss also meant it was the last game for our run machine Andrew “Walks” Walker who has decided to move back to Victoria for some unjustifiable reason after 5 quality years for Normo. For those that know Walks will agree that he is one of the best team mates you could have and always puts in maximum effort both in the game and at training. He had another fantastic year with the bat scoring 391 runs @ 43.44 which includes scores of 85, 53 not out and one of the most devastating tons you’ll ever see. He finished on 133 not out in a one dayer with his 2nd 50 coming off just 17 balls. The innings included 14 fours and 5 sixes. Thanks for the memories Walks and al the best for the future! You’ll be back. “Best Sledge of the Year” has to go to Walks for his non-stop peppering of the St Ives captain for several overs in a bid to get him to play a shot as he tried to save his team from an outright defeat. With 4 overs to go we needed 4 wickets and after not playing a shot for almost 15 overs he finally tried to pull Nick Gartoes for four only to miss and watch his stumps shatter all over the place. That brought about an unforgettable collapse which saw us claim victory with 5 balls to spare. Simply sensational. Highlights of the season 2006/07 included: • The outright win vs. St Ives aka “the best day” after Rocco’s comment to me when I arrived at Crofty’s house warming party after missing day 1 due to the birth of my daughter Mackenzie – “Hey Mooz, you missed the best day!” he was right, it was the best day for more reasons than cricket. This game included many highlights such as Nish’s 108 not out, Crofty’s first win as captain, Gartoes match winning spell of 3 for 5 ( if you ask him it was 3 for 0), Rocco and Robbie’s run outs, and Robbie’s 4 for 20 including the celebration of getting the last wicket to claim outright. • 3 of our bowlers finished in the top 10 bowlers in the competition – Robbie Magrath 34 wickets @ 15.53(2nd), Crofty 31 wickets @ 15.19 (4th), and Daz Egelhoff 27 wickets @ 15.37 (9th) for the

Page 19 Annual Report 2006-07

man they call “Hoff” – a fantastic achievement for his first full season in A grade. The big fella really stepped up this year opening the bowling with Robbie and consistently gave us the early breakthrough. Bradesy with 23 wickets @ 19.30 was 14th. • 2 of our bats finished in the top 5 batsmen in the comp – 2nd Nish 373 runs @ 53.29 (3 x 50’s and 1 x 100) and 4th Walks 391 runs @ 43.44 (2 x 50’s and 1 x 100) • Crofty’s 38 and Mooz’s 51 in the semi-final vs. ARL. The partnership included 2 lost balls and 1 knocked out of shape due to Crofty’s six that was rumoured to be the biggest ever witnessed at Berowra. • Steve Smith topped the wicket keeping stats in the competition with 22 dismissals (19ct & 3 st). • Joel’s aggressive 47 opening the innings which laid the foundation for a first win up against St Ives. • Chrisco’s explosive and consistent middle order red inks batting near the end of the season after he missed the first half due to marriage and a very minor knee injury. He ended up with the 3rd best average with 34.33 and looks the goods to score plenty next year if he plays the whole season. • Drewey’s 40 against ARL an RD 1 was a match winning innings after we slumped to 8 for 111. It was the first time we had beaten ARL in over 2 seasons. Drewey also took the best catch of the season at 2nd slip against Kenthurst to remove their best bat. A new record was set for the team Kitty at $450! Surpassing last years $315 – a surprising result considering we dropped less catches than last year. Let’s just say there was more ducks, plenty of people late to the game and some internal betting scandals. In summary our record for the year was 8 wins (1 outright), 2 draws and 5 losses – 4th place although we were 2nd on quotient and 2nd on team batting averages. On behalf of the team I thank all our supporters which included Graham Rowe, Rob Bradey, the Crofts and McDonalds, Kelly, Jane, Marika, Mackenzie, Alysha and Sheri. Also thanks to the players that helped us out during the year – Calum Waldegrave, Dunc Haigh, Jugga Ryan, Cam Riddett and Andrew Burgess. Well done lads on another successful year! Hope to see you all next season. No regrets!, Mooz BATTING AWARD: Nishad Kulkarni 373 runs @ 53.29 (HS108*) BOWLING AWARD: Rob Magrath 34 wickets @ 15.53 (BB 5-50) ALL ROUNDER: David Croft 193 runs @ 24.13 & 31 wickets @ 15.19 PLAYERS PLAYER: Peter Bradey - 12 votes (R’UP – Nish Kulkarni 11 votes) B GRADE TEAM REPORT Cameron Riddett (Captain) Well what a season. Laughs a plenty, ducks a plenty, dropped catches a plenty, but we were there just for the cricket. And cricket we played……… Well?? Our season was a tuff one. If we had our full side all season we may have won the competition, however losing 3 key players after 3 matches we were always going to struggle. We finished 7th after beating the 3 of the top 4 teams in the last round and narrowly going down to the other. Highlights of the season: • A convincing victory against the team that beat us in the final the previous season.

Page 20 Annual Report 2006-07

• Brett Turpin’s 84 off 13 overs in Rd 4 • 7 players turning up to week 2 of Rd 5 • Jason Spooner's big hitting (88 runs 12 fours, 7 sixes) • The annihilation of Berowra in the one day match(all over in 26 overs) • The introduction of Bryan Wilden to Normo Cricket (11 wickets @ 12.9 & 217 runs @ 44 including HS 70 not out) • Scotty McLennan’s fantastic glove work( 15 catches & 4 Stumpings) Thanks to our top order batsmen: Duncan Haigh (164 runs @ 12.62 & 10 wickets @ 18.4) Andrew Burgess (231 runs @ 21 & 3-18 in the last match) and Tom Dempsey, who found form in the 2nd part of the season (221 runs @ 20.1) Our middle order was one that changed regularly through the season as players were found to fill the Gaps. Bryan Wilden & Brett Turpin (305 runs @ 20.3) did most of the damage both being our top run getters. Brett and Bryan were supported well by our opening bowler, Naish Somaiya (247 runs @ 19).Later in the season we were joined by Tom Cole (155 runs @ 31) & Joel Carter (139 runs @ 35). The lower order was one that was a mixed bunch of lads. Held up mainly by Scotty McLennan (158 runs @ 11.3) & Cameron Riddett (172 runs @ 13.23 & 14 wickets @ 10). Ken Tham should have played the whole season (11 wickets @ 11.9) was a handy bat and fast bowler, but ashamedly put travelling to South America before cricket. Our bowlers were a mixed lot. Opening the bowling Matt Pietsch (7 wickets @ 35) and Naish Somaiya (21 wickets @ 21) were unlucky all season. Many times they managed to just miss the stumps or the bat to the slips frustration. They were helped out by Brett Turpin's left arm spinners, often telling the batsmen that he would be bowling a wrong’un the next delivery. Big thanks must go to these lads for turning up each week and doing their best for the team regardless of what shape they were in from the night before. Duncs, Tom, Scotty, Pietschy, Brett, Burgo and Naish, Thanks for a fun season. I must thank all those players that filled in during the season: Luke Hudson, Matt O’Connor, Damien Guilbert, Henry Liang, Jason Spooner, Manoj Rajamohan, Ashkay Parthasarthy, Matt Verduin, Michael Brown, Simon Riddett, Pat Muldrew, Nick Hiley, T McNerny, Mike Gorrie, Calum Waldegrave, Dale Yeaman, Alan Rigney, Brad Stratton and Tim Spruce. What sometimes is meant to happen doesn’t always quite often work that way as we experienced in 2006-07. Consistency was not our strong point this year, but never the less we all tried hard and enjoyed the season. Our bowlers were fantastic throughout the season, having bowled teams out for out under 100 on several occasions. On our day we were very competitive and evenly matched it with the best in our grade. The atmosphere we created on the field was positive and a credit to each member of the team. Well done guys you all carried yourselves well for the club.

Paul Haigh – our captain who didn’t seem to fire as in past years. I can say this since I’m the author. Found runs hard to come by even though still managed 216 runs @ 16. Highlight of the season was arguing with opposing captains over boundaries and umpiring decisions. I’ll be enjoying next season from the sideline. Dirk Drieberg – young gun himself. Thanks for your help throughout the season Dirk. Bowled well to end with 21 wickets @ 19 including 5 against North Wahroonga. John Kerr – great work again this season behind the stumps, not all stuck but still an inspiration to the younger guys. Thanks for the work you did every week entering the statistics on I-sports. Vumsee Kodakala – the joker of the team always willing to have a chat to the opposition. Bowled well this season without luck on some occasions, Finished the year with 14 wickets@ 21. Manoj Rajamohan – great player to have in any team who filled in several times after completing his HSC. Bowled, batted and field well under some difficult situations. Who could forget the 10th wicket partnership with Dirk at Campbell Park to beat Hornsby, scored 138 runs @ 20! Brett Salisbury – Mr. 10% who had another good season with the bat. Being an opener is hard especially in C grade this season where, on several occasions Brett had to preserve his wicket for the next week. Scored 276 runs @ 18.5 plus 5 wicket @ 16. Matt Salisbury – I made the mistake several times this season by asking an opening bowler if we should bat or bowl if we win the Toss. Matt’s response was always bowl and that was something he did very well. Matt bowled some long and very tiring spells throughout the season. Luck was not always on his side but he never gives up, Good effort Matty. Our leading wicket taker with 28 wickets @ 21 which included hauls of 5 - 30 & 8 - 57 against West Penno. Jeremy Rankin – Jeremy didn’t play many matches this year but when he did we benefited in every facet of the game. Your efforts with both bat and ball really lifted the team. Finished with 181 runs @ 23 and 7 wickets @ 21. Renny Suhood – Renny was our father figure this season, always giving advice and tips to the younger guys. Your efforts with the bat were exciting to watch from the side, a great guy to have in the team. He had several good scores with the bat including: 33, 24, 33, 27 & 34, totaling 216 runs @ 18 & 6 wickets @ 22. Mitchell Magrath – What a season. Mitchell really stepped up well from juniors. By far our most consistent player scored a great century (115) against Hornsby at Normo. Scored 412 runs @ 42 and also bowled well taking 19 wickets @ 18. Ended the season by playing a few games for the Colts side. Rob Waight – started the season slowly, but like every good red matured as the season went on. Highlights included scores of: 38, 19, and 34 to end with 259 runs @ 21. Also ended the season playing Colts. Owen Rajayogan – started the season strongly with 87 against Castle Hill and backed this up with: 32, 26, 31, 47 & 33 to finish with 245 runs @ 17.5. Owens fielding has to be seen to be believed, taking several in close and in the outer which I could only dream of. Rob O’Connor – Rob only played 7 games for us this season. Good middle order batsman who on several occasions had to steady a sinking ship. Rob there is no going back to D grade for easy pickings now, finishing with an average of 16 with the bat. Many thanks to those who helped out this year by filling in: Simon Riddett, Guy and Rod Seymour, Michael Gorrie, John and Tom Green, Michael Brown, Rob Darling, Michael Kerr, Henry Liang, Jarrod Witts and Jeff Thomson. D GRADE TEAM REPORT Off to an unfortunate start in 2006-07, the side faltered early in the C3 competition, posting losses to St Ives, Castle Hill and Berowra in the first 3 round of the competition – prompting relegation to the D grade competition for season’s remainder. Despite the poor showing, the side continued to exude confidence with much promise showing in these early rounds – Brad Stratton posting 68 in the first round, Simon Ashari taking 6 wickets in the 2nd, ands Craig Austin, John Acheson and Michael Gorrie looking solid with the bat, making starts in early outings. The inclusion of Brennen Smart in RD 3 boded well with him contributing solidly with thirties in his first 2 innings – he would go on to score 471 runs for the season, figuring prominently in Senior Cricketer of the Year Calculations. With the loss of a number of key players due to HSC study commitments, the side was unable to convert a string of good starts into victory; however signs continued to encourage Captain Dave Elysee – who also started to show signs of form with the bat and ball by late October.

The penultimate round before Christmas saw the side’s first victory – an outright triumph against Kissing Point with Harry Morton and Tim Stephenson figuring strongly with bat and ball. Unfortunately, with the return of Dave Elysee, the side was unable to make it two victories in a row – losing by 7 wickets to Pennant Hills in the final round of 2006 despite 50 from Brennen Smart and Craig Austin with Henry Liang showing great pace with the Ball. Following the Christmas break, the side started promisingly with Smart, John Acheson and Craig Austin all making solid starts, however none were able to go on with their innings. With the ball, Dave Elysee bowled solidly but was unfortunately only rewarded with 2 wickets for his toil with Normanhurst defeated by 7 wickets again. Against Hornsby in the following round, Normanhurst was defeated only by a single (1) run with Michael Gorrie scoring 67, Tim Stephenson unbeaten on 30 and Ben Berndt contributing solidly wit the gloves. Late in the year, Stephenson continued to figure prominently with the ball, ending his season with 17 wickets despite a somewhat indifferent start. Jeff Thomson, too, bowled well towards the years end taking key wickets against Berowra – the side’s only other win for the season, an outright triumph in which Brennen Smart again figured prominently, taking 10 wickets for the match and notching up 44. A somewhat indifferent season it could be said, the side ended their run in 7th place on the competition ladder, winning 2 matches outright, however, as is often the case in sport, the statistics don’t tell the whole story. Many thanks to Dave Elysee, for skippering the side, John Acheson for looking after the statistics, and the countless others who assisted us through out the year.

D RESERVE TEAM REPORT This was a season of great improvement and enjoyment for the D reserves, finishing 3rd place and narrowly losing the semi-final to the team that won the competition. Not bad for a team that lost their first game by a record margin. Drawing on players of various skill and experience there was never a dull moment this season. Andrew (Thommo) Thomson started to show great improvement and started playing some classic cricket, winning 6 games on the trot. There were many highlights during the season with the bat including Tom Green’s 101 not out, brilliantly supported by the ever reliable Sean Willis. Big hitting Bryan Massey saved us many times and with an average of 32 was one of our best. Amran Sinha and Connor Siebel were reliable top order batsmen and laid the foundation for the experienced Nish Mohan. Our strength was definitely our bowling and we had some great performances with the ball. Scott Lloyd-Owen (BB 6-26) and Connor Siebel (BB 4-11) formed a formidable opening combination taking 30 and 26 wickets respectively. The dashing John Whittington was our strike bowler with phenomenal figures, taking 33 wickets @ 8.12, with Raja Mohan always taking wickets at the death with his tricky off –spinners and proved rather handy in the field, taking some difficult catches. Sean, Bryan, Tom and Thommo bowled admirably when required and put in effort in the field as well. Kamti Jain contributed well with the bat and in the field and showed great commitment travelling from Canberra for several games. In the field Connor, Bryan, Scott and Amran were excellent, Connor taking many classic catches and Scott a direct hit run out. Shivar proved he was not afraid to put his body on the line with some courageous fielding at long off and Fine leg. Big thanks to everyone who filled in for us through out the season and to Thommo for putting in so much effort as captain. Much fun was had after the game at the Bowling Club where all the team members enjoyed a few quiet drinks and recalled how good we were, how Bryan broke his nose and discussed team tactics. An unforgettable season for the D reserves with many fond memories and lots of new mates.
