The first clinic was held at Kenthurst Park (12-14 January) and the second clinic took place at Waitara Oval (17-19 January). Thanks to our two host clubs, Kenthurst-Upper Hills and Northern District CC, for the use of their excellent facilities. A total of 61 children attended the clinics, which represented a 33% increase on our last clinic in September 2010. It was great to see a high ‘return rate’ of children from September 2010 to January 2011, which demonstrates that the clinics have been enjoyable and beneficial for the children who attended. The written evaluations from the parents were also excellent, with many parents expressing their gratitude at the overall coaching ratio of approximately 1 : 6, which provides more individualised coaching opportunities. The accredited coaches engaged at the clinics included Rod Hokin (Head Coach), Bruce Wood (Co ordinator), Jono Whealing, Dave Lowery, Nick Cheadle, Andrew Lowe, Irfan Baig, Mike Burgin and Justin Epthorp. We were also fortunate to have a special guest coach on day 2 of our Waitara clinic, Ross Turner (HKHDCCA Patron), who is an internationally renowned cricket coach. Following the clinic, Ross sent this correspondence to Bruce Wood, HKHDCCA President: “A short note to extend congratulations to you for your outstanding efforts in coordinating the HKHDCCA – Northern District Cricket Club Coaching Program across the past week. I commend you and Rod Hokin for bringing it all together in fine style. Northern District and HKHDCCA are to be commended on their joint initiative to promote and develop the game across Sydney’s north-west region. Congratulations are also offered to the coaches who worked in committed and enthusiastic fashion.” The clinics included video analysis of the bowlers’ actions; specific coaching on batting, bowling and fielding skills (and wicket-keeping drills where applicable); training in the nets (including turf nets at Waitara); batting against a bowling machine (at Kenthurst); a wide range of coaching drills and games to reinforce the cricket skills learnt and to develop team work; plus a Cricket ‘Olympics’ event and Super Sixes competitions. The next HKHDCCA / NDCC cricket clinics will take place during the Sept./Oct. 2011 school holidays. Enquiries can be directed to Bruce Wood, [email protected], Ph. 0412 688 629. • The Captains' Review of the 2012 Season
Review of the 2012 Season 1st XI A good season for the club with the 1st XI exceeding expectations to finish an excellent third on their return to the top flight and whilst the 2’s and 3s under-performed, Premier league status was maintained for both. The 4th XI had another excellent season and after just falling shy of back to back promotions, were retrospectively placed 2nd after Harlow Town fell foul of league rules. Expectations weighed heavily on new 1st XI skipper Jack Kliber, as he took the reins on the return to the Premier League after a 7 year hiatus. After losing three of the first four games, it looked like survival was the main target however the side went unbeaten for the rest of the season to be rewarded with a lofty place in the table. An excellent opening win in a rain reduced affair at home to Colchester kicked the campaign off. Chasing 180 off 38 overs, a fifty from Arshad Ali plus contributions from the middle order left us needing 13 off the last over. However a couple of sixes from Matt Salisbury emphatically settled things, the start of an excellent season with the bat for him. Three pretty convincing losses were a reality check, with Salisbury’s 85 against Wanstead the only highlight, before a vital win on a difficult pitch at Ilford stopped the rot in the last of the first round of limited overs games. Chasing only 117 after excellent spells from Mike Hindley and Ryan Lugg, we were indebted to a gritty partnership between debutant Suhaib Sarwar and Salisbury to see us home.

Our philosophy was to ‘never settle’ for what we had so we were always ready for the next test. That’s exactly how we approach our challenges at the McGrath Foundation. While we’ve achieved so much thanks to your amazing support, we’re determined to deliver on our aim of providing a McGrath Foundation Breast Cancer Nurse to everyone who needs one. Our focus in the coming years is to get a better understanding of how we can provide more care to more people. With over 19,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, we know it’s not going to be easy. But when I look at the incredible 1,438 fundraising events, 670 volunteers, 85 corporate partners and the amazing major donors who support the Foundation. I am so proud that we’ve been able to fund 9 more McGrath Breast Care Nurses this year and support so many families experiencing breast cancer.

ANNUAL REPORT SEASON 2007-2008 PRESENTATION NIGHT 7.30pm Friday 4th April 2008 at Pennant Hills Bowling Club Normanhurst-Warrawee Cricket Club formerly known as Normanhurst Cricket Club Established in 1926 (Foundation Club in HK&HDCA) A DIVISION OF NORMANHURST SPORTS CLUB www.normosports.com PRESIDENT’S REPORT Well. What a season - centuries, hat-tricks, personal bests and some great team results. You always know it’s a fun year when it finishes before you know it or want it to! A big thankyou to the Committee for a fantastic job they have done. John Corish and Sue Haertsch have done a magnificent job organising juniors, ensuring that it ran smoothly and efficiently. Chris Hawkins did a wonderful job in his first year as our equipment officer and I am sure he enjoyed purchasing our new bowling machine! Mr Pietsch has done a stellar job organising our accounts for the last 2 years, however a newborn and knee surgery will see it as his last year in the position. Our club is lucky enough to own a bowling machine. Through governments grants we were able to purchase this so that it can be of benefit to all of our players and coaches. I would like to congratulate all our coaches and managers for the way they have conducted themselves and I am sure that all teams thank them for their energy, time and commitment that they have put in. On a personal note, 2007-2008 will be my last year as President. After two fun years, and seven on the Committee, it is time for me to move on to achieve some personal goals.

  • Review of the 2014 Season
Review of the 2014 Season 2014 proved to be a massive disappointment after five years of progress as the 1st XI crashed out of the Premier League after successive third placed finishes. Likewise the 2nd XI went backwards and scrabbled about the relegation zone before saving themselves on the penultimate weekend. The 3rd XI had a reasonably solid campaign, finishing 4th and a more than competitive season by the 4th XI rounded things off. 1st XI The 1st XI took on a rather different look to the team that had a chance to win the whole shebang on the last day of 2013. Arshad Ali returned to newly promoted Upminster, Rana Arlsan moved to Woodford Green, Daniel Jacob wasn’t returning for a third year from Sydney and we rarely saw Matt Salisbury who deservedly hit the big time with the county. The story of the 1st XI’s season was really that it never got started. Despite an early morale boosting League Cup win at eventual Premier League winners Chingford, the first half of the campaign was a bit of a write off with no wins recorded. Too often, decent starts with the bat were squandered by some impressive collapses, ruining some solid bowling performances and so at halfway we were looking at a really challenging late summer to survive the drop. Things started to look up with a convincing win at Loughton, Richard Abson-Bennett the star with 5-15 from an assortment of leg breaks. A roll threatened to develop with an extraordinary win at defending champions Wanstead.

  • Sussex V. Durham Specsavers County Championship - Division Two Arundel Castle Cricket Ground Wednesday 20Th – Friday 22Nd June 2018
Sussex v. Durham Specsavers County Championship - Division Two Arundel Castle Cricket Ground Wednesday 20th – Friday 22nd June 2018 Day One It was late on Tuesday evening when Sussex Academy graduate Tom Haines received the unexpected call to play in the Specsavers County Championship Division Two match against Durham. He had played only two championship matches before, both in 2016, when he scored 12 runs in three innings as a 17-year-old, so he must have felt he was making his debut all over again. But the 19-year-old left-hander – called in to replace England Lions call-up Chris Jordan - responded by scoring a memorable maiden first-class century at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground, featuring in a record second-wicket stand of 244 in 54 overs with Phil Salt as Sussex piled up 439-5. Salt also scored his maiden ton at this level as the pair celebrated beating Sussex's previous record second-wicket stand against Durham of 196 between Bill Athey and Alan Wells at Hove in 1996 - before either of today's centurions were born! Before the match the Sussex head coach Jason Gillespie has asked his top five to improve on what had been a disappointing start to the season. “We haven’t quite nailed it in the top five,” he said. Sussex went into this game with their batting averages led by all-rounder David Wiese. And they were also without highly rated Stiaan van Zyl, who is missing this match with a knee injury. But Gillespie could not have envisaged this response from a Sussex side, even though they were batting on a relaid and flat looking surface.

  • CWOB Booklet 2012.Indd
2012 Singapore Cricket Association Women’s International Cricket Challenge INTRODUCTION Clare Cannon, Chair - Cricket Without Borders Last year, Cricket Without Borders undertook its inaugural tour to England and Singapore. I always maintained that this tour would be a one off; but the spirit of the tour, and the fun and the experiences we all had got in our blood—and so we are off again! This time it is to play in the “Girls’ Cricket Festival” in Singapore. We are deeply indebted to Saktti Mane Hammond of the Singapore Cricket Club for getting this tournament off the ground. Our thanks also to Prakash Vijaykumar of the Singapore Association for working with Saktti to bring in not only Singapore, but Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong and a Sri Lankan development team to play in the Festival. Our motto at Cricket Without Borders is: “Be bold, show sportsmanship, have fun, make friends”. This sums up how we will play the tournament. There is no doubt that we like to win, and our track record is a successful one, but CWOB is not about just winning and losing--it is about the joy of playing the game, and the way we play it. We will continue to play our unique brand of cricket which is encapsulated in Stephen Field’s “The Way we Play” ethos. Cricket, however, is only part of the experience. Singapore is a vibrant city, and we plan to enjoy as much of its culture as we can. When we played there last year, we found that the shared curry lunch was as important to the Singaporeans as the game itself.
