RED DRAGONS FOOTBALL NJAC Title and Lambert Award Among 2008 Season Highlights Cortland enjoyed one of the best seasons in school history during the 2008 campaign. The Red Dragons finished 11-2, including two victories in the NCAA Division III tournament before losing at eventual national champion Mount Union in the quarterfinals.

Cortland also won the Athletic Conference (NJAC) title with a 9-0 record. The program has finished at least tied for first in the NJAC standings each of the last four years and is a combined 26-3 versus league foes during that span.

Following the season, Cortland received the Lambert Meadowlands Award as the best Division III team in the East and was chosen as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Team of the Year.

Head Coach Dan MacNeill was voted as the NJAC Coach of the Year and was one of five finalists for Liberty Mutual Division III National Coach of the Year honors. Eric Hajnos tied a school single-season record with nine TD receptions, including two scoring catches in an NCAA second round win versus Curry.

Offensive tackle Sean James earned first team American Football Coaches Association All-America honors and was Cortland players and staff celebrate after clinching the NJAC title and an automatic selected as an Associated Press Little All-American. berth into the NCAA Division III playoffs with a victory at The College of New Jersey. Ola Adams joins the Cortland coaching staff in 2009. He graduated from Concord University of West Virginia in 2008 and served as a student coach at the school last fall.

Adams was a four-year starting free safety for the Division II Mountain Lions from 2004-07. He earned All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) honors three times and was named All-Northeast Region twice. A native of Reston, Virginia, Adams lettered in football, basketball and track at South Lakes High School. SUNY Cortland: Official University Partner of the New York Jets SUNY Cortland served as the home of the New York Jets preseason training camp for the first time in 2009.

At Cortland, athletics are viewed as having an important role in the educational mission of the College. During the fall, winter and spring seasons, Cortland participates in 25 intercollegiate sports — 14 women’s and 11 men’s — in an attempt to provide a broad program which meets the needs, interests and abilities of its students.

The Cortland athletic program placed fifth nationally out of approximately 440 colleges and universities in the 2008-09 all-sport Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Division III standings. Cortland is the only New York school and one of only six nationwide to finish in the top 20 each of the last 14 years. Since 1989, the Red Dragons have captured 15 NCAA Division III team titles.
